  1. I kinda like it hideous, makes for a great anti theft device I'm gonna try and get back down this way in the fall, It's like a 6 hour drive, the car just isn't ready for that at the moment. I have a shot front CV hauling 415 bricks in the back last summer didn't help On the list of wanted mods are a lift, bigger wheels/tires, sunroof, stereo and bumpers. I have an '81 chrome bumper on now and it's flush mounted with the grille, I kinda like that, so I may just add a push bar.
  2. Yeah, those are awesome.... I try to avoid looking at the engine as much as possible (usually means somethings wrong) so I'll skip those, my wagon is hideous... no need to dress it up now.
  3. Thanks for the info guys. I think I may wait until I lift the wagon. Down here the ruts are a foot or deeper, I saw a mid '90's Elxplorer bottom out and get stuck while I was out today and a blazer get stuck also. I keep saying I want to wait for a better wagon to lift, but I suppose the fact that the rockers are rusted out may not be a bad thing for a sand wagon. I still really want to do rocker covers out of diamond plate.
  4. Just wondering if anyone has much experience driving in sand. I'm here on the outer banks, NC with my '05 RS on vacation wishing I had my '84 GL so I could hit the beach. I'm curious if my stock 4wd wagon will be ok on the sand, it sits pretty darn high in the rear, but not as much in the front....... anyone get their subes out there while stock?
  5. I used to have a wagon that did this also, '84 GL 2wd. Don't know what caused it, but never seemed to hurt anything. What is this fuel pump under the hood you speak of? All of mine have been under the car....
  6. heh, I was actually looking for a newer wagon or Forester to trade my RS in on that night, well lit lot made for good photos. I plan on painting it white, my first 2 GL's were, and I nothing looks as good with the wagon wheels. I do like the OD green I painted the drivers side with, it really seems to fit the wagon.
  7. coolest part is the turn signals, the '81 bumper doesn't have them like the '84, so I moved the them beside the headlights, where the parking lights originally were. Very JDM I'd like to paint it eventually, but it's got a good bit of rust above the rear wheels and it the rockers. The car is an automatic, so I'll likely try and find another manual wagon to fix up, but it's nice to have a vintage sube back on the road. The Impreza is nice, but nothing compares to the GL! Oh, the A/C still works and is way colder than the RS
  8. Well after a sudden meeting with a telephone pole almost 2 years ago my wagon is back on the road. It went thru a few changes over the past year or so, I did drive it for a short while last summer with no front end until mom decided she needed her radiator back for her hatch. Since then I've managed to pile it back together thanks to a few fellow members parts cars. Anyhow, enjoy. It still looks like crap, but I kinda like it that way. After the crash: Last summer: Now:
  9. Thanks guys, I had considered grinding the caliper as well, just wasn't sure if that was the safe rout to go, I haven't looked them over that well, so I wasn't sure on how meaty they are in that area. I think I'l try that first and the go with washers if thats a nogo. It dosen't seem like much would have to be removed to make them fit. I've got to do a read wheel bearing too, so I can take care of it while the whole thing is in the air.
  10. So I bought a '90 Loyale 4wd auto wagon this weekend. Good thing. Moms hatch is down for the count with water pump and carb issues and I can't get the right new lower rad hose. Bad thing. Well, I decided to make lemonade out two lemons and rob moms non-driving of it's '13 white spokes to the replace the god awful ugly hub caps covering multi colored steelies on the Loyale. The swap was quick other than the fact that center caps wont fit with the wheels on the Loyale, but when I went to back out of the garage, it seemed like my brakes were stuck. Turns out the outer edge of the caliper is rubbing the spokes on the wheels pretty bad. I'm just wondering if anyone else has run into this as well and if so what actions you took to resolve the issue. I was thinking spacers, but I haven't really seen any thin ones around at the parts stores, much less ones for 4 lug. Any ideas?
  11. Thanks Jamie, I figured you would be the one to know! My car is a 5-speed, is it still the same? and what's the difference between this and "symetrical AWD"?
  12. Yah, it would be sweet. I've been trying to talk a friend who has a landscape company into doing the same thing with his '71 Plymouth Valiant 4-door; it's been clobbered in the side and he's been hauling around a mower in the trunk that won't shut. I told him to just take off the trunk lid and cut off the rear half of the roof, instant pickup. Maybe this is just the pic to convince him. I'm just really looking for an excuse for him to let me cut the roof off his car.
  13. I've recently noticed that on most of the paperwork (including my insurance) I've gotten on my '05 2.5 RS Sport it says that it is a 2.5 RS Sport Pro/VTD. Does anyone have a clue what the Pro/VTD part is about? I know it's got the WRX interior/exterior and suspension goodies because of the sport package, but I have no idea what the other is. Any ideas? Thanks
  14. Notice the extended wheelbase, looks like a chopped wagon with the rear doors welded shut.
  15. Anyone see this thing before? Pretty crazy..
  16. Thanks man, that helps me a lot. Trying to get all my projects done on the 'roo this winter and the sunroof is way up on the list.
  17. Just wondering how big of a sunroof I can put in my '84 GL Wagon with a roof rack. I used to have a spare one but someone destroyed it, what was the size of the factory ones (pop-up). Thanks
  18. This morning I saw a mid 80's EA81 sedan get wrecked, ran into the back of a big truck. The car was mint but got messed up pretty bad, pushed the front of the hood back past the air cleaner because it ran up underneath the truck. I almost got sick right there in the car. What a horrible way to start your day, seeing a sube all crunched up.
  19. I can imagine it wouldn't look bad in black, but there is a silver '06 STI in town and I don't like it at all..... Suzuki Forenza lookin thing.......
  20. unless you can find the harness for the stero and figure out what wires are aht, you're gonna have some big problems. In my opinion I would say just give up on that one and buy a non factory stereo that already has the wires. The biggest problem I had was with the speakers. Subarus from the factory use a common ground system, meaning all the speakers use the same gound unlike most other stereos that have a positive an negative wire per speaker, so to use any non common ground stereo you'll need to rewire all speakers. It seemed like a pain to me espically all the ones in the dash, so I took my car to circut city and they did it all for $60, and I'm sure you could have the same done cheaper at a stereo shop. I'm not sure how well I explained that, but if you have any questions let me know, I'll try and clarify things.
  21. I just noticed on my Impreza that even when the key is out the wheel does not lock like I've always known Subarus (and most 80's and up cars) to do. Is it supposed to be this way and if so does anyone know the reasoning for it?
  22. Yeah, now that you say something, I seem to remember hearing something like that as well. Oh well, Rota makes a wheel that looks very similar and is prob cheaper as well. Not sure if it can be had in gold, but my car is silver, so if I get anything it'll prob match. I'l have to worry about it later, I'm having too much fun driving the car! I picked it up Tues night with 44 miles on it and it now has a little over 600 on it. I love this car
  23. BTW anyone see the '06 Imprezas? My local dealership has an '06 Wagon in and I don't like it at all, just can't dig that triangle grille.
  24. Wow that looks awesome, cool to see an Impreza with some ground clearance.
  25. I just purchased my 6th Subaru but first new car, a 2005 Impreza 2.5 RS Sport. I've had lots of 80's GL but I really love my Impreza, I've been annoying salesmen at the local dealerships since 2003 getting brochures and taking test drives, so finally I got in the position to buy and I got exactly what I wanted. If I had ordered a car it would be identical to this one, it's perfect. I hope to have some pics up of it soon, it's awesome. I wouldn't mind adding some things to it, primarily a WRX hood, does anyone know where I could either get a steel of fiberglass hood for it? It's really about the only change I want to make to it (ok, some STI wheels would be cool) Hopefully I'll get some pics soon and I'll be posting a lot more on this part of the board.
