There are no nuts, just self tapping screws that hold the rack on, and from what I remember they don't have any sort of sealent, just a small rubber gasket that resembles a washer that goes on the screw. On the aftermarket rack I have I used black rtv silicone on the screws and a little on top of them, no leaks yet.... 2 years later.

Totally, as much as I'd love to do it, I just can't, thank goodness Andrew is out there. Personally I'm shocked that we had any issues at all, I've put 4,000mi on the Brat since I bought it and never had a moments trouble (beyond the random non idle first week I had it and a small elec. short). I feel really bad that it was mine that let him down, I feel in debt to him, if he needs someone to pick up a sube in the south for him I'm ready to do it! I guess since the GL10 is going home this week, I'll have to make a trip to Conn. in the hatch to pick up the parts he had for me. And so begins another sube road trip...... -

Maybe this thread should be re-titled "The adventures of wagonsonly" Andrew came down last night to pick up the Brat he got from me, since he was headed north I hitched a ride with him to pick up my new hatch @ Meeky Mooses.... I drove the 170 something miles up with no real issues other than the trans jumping out of 4th a few times (first time for that). One the way back he was going rather slow, so I pulled off for him to catch up, he pulled off the road and called me saying "the oil light is on and the clutch cable just broke" Came back and checked it out, clutch cable was ok, so I adjusted the clutch..... everything visually and feel seems to be working normally, but you can't start it in gear, it's like the clutch isn't engaged at all. So, while I ran to the dmv to title the hatch with the possibility of driving him home to conn. on the horizon, he managed to call AAA and get the Brat hauled to Meekys place and met up with Frank B to get the GL10 he bought to drive home. As far as I know right now he's on his way back home with the GL10. Gonna give him a call in a bit and check on the progress. Old subes, always an adventure. -

Yup! and knowing is half the battle! Quick fact, did you know that Chrysler had the 350 before GM, 1958... was a B series engine, a full 9 years before the general. (Not a lot of mopar guys know that). Also the displacement for the Chevy 396 was actually a 402 for many years, but the 396 name became so revered after the inital run that they continued to call it a 396 -

Wait! I take that back, my mom used to go out with a guy who had a black GL10 Wagon.... one of the first cars I ever drove (I was 14ish). I hated that thing though, it was god awful slow.... I did dig the digital gauges and sunroof though -

If it's an EA82 it could be your coolant tempature sensor, check the connection, mine was corroded and did the same thing, had to floor it to get it going, especially if it'd been run for a while. -
looking for better fuel filter for my loyale
GoldDiggerRoo replied to moshem74's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You say the gas is bad in your area, so I'm assuming you go thru a lot of filters, try one of these..... Spectre Fuel Filter @ Autozone You can clean the filter element and the make replacement elements too. I've used these on lots of subes (using two of them now) and plenty of V8 cars, so I know it'll flow enough. They also make several no universal ones with specific sized metal hose ends. You can find it on ebay too, search Spectre Fuel Filter -

If I ever get my wagon together and running for a while, I'm painting it black. I was hoping someone on here would have a black one I could see pics of, as I too have never seen a black one. -

I hate to dig this thread back up, but I'm doing it anyway. Found someone with an EA82 powered plane, there's some info and some crappy pics of it, the KR2S. http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/kro10_96.html The guy is getting 125mph cruise speed out of a carbed EA82, not bad......still don't know if I'd trust the t-belts for the "cross country" he built the plane for. Apparently the guy couldn't get his carb issues sorted out and eventually changed to a Jabiru engine, the plane was still flying as of 2004. -
The WTF is wrong with my wagon thread
GoldDiggerRoo replied to GoldDiggerRoo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah, it's good to know what the problem is, not so good that I can't drive it. I had considered putting the 81 out of the old wagon into ot, but if it's not going to cost much to get the suspension worked out I'd rather drive it for a while, esp. if we get any snow, I'd hate to have the new wagon wrecked too, and with my luck lately it'd happen. -
Yeah, make sure the wires are long enough to run inside the car, if having a switch panel inside the car get's you off, this is one more switch you'll have to oggle over. I'm never keen on hacking into a harness on my cars, I hate electrical work, it's a quick, old school fix that works with parts that most people have lying around in their toolbox.

Well, drove the wagon home the other night before heading out of town and all of a sudden it started to run horrible, got a wicked TOD going on, did some checking around, it now as a overflow tank full of black fuel rich coolant and old faithful action going on under the rad cap, so blown HG it is, had neither of those symptoms until then, but I guess that was it all along. It's not a huge suprise though, since it had a bad water pump when I bought it, prob. got hot a time or two on that guy. Looks like the old crap wagon is going back on the road until I can get this beast fixed, it's going to be powered by an EA82T running a SPFI short block next time it's back together. I already have my WRX TMIC for it, need to start looking for a new two core rad soon, spend some time on the cooling on this thing.
