  1. This might be part of the problem however I didnt have near as much problem before Rob and I did the headgaskets on it.
  2. Use something like a bondo spreader (soft plastic ) so that it won't scratch the paint and maybe a hair dryer. worked for a few baked on bumper stickers that came with my last car. Mike
  3. As GD said their are board members in your area and most of them will take the time to help you if they have it to give. A shop would be best but if not start calling some most if they are reputable will try to walk you through the troubleshooting process because it reflects well on their business (word of mouth rules ). Personally I would start carefully disassembling things around the column until you have located there the smoke came from more often than not the part that burnt if not exposed wire, will lead you to the problem. Check your fuse box and surrounding wires for fuses that have been bypassed or tapped for other purposes. If nothing check wires that have any place at all to rub on anything. Also check your fuseable links. Then if you are still not resolved check the grounds around the battery and have your alt checked out at the local APS. I am by no means a good DIY'er but this is how I would start. keep track of all the symptoms they may spark a memory from another someone here that may lead directly to the problem. If something can happen chances are someone here has had to deal with it. Mike
  4. Sorry to dredge up an old thread but what is difference between the K730 and K 731?
  5. Check this out the sizes and locations are common for the front and Steve (hatchsub) did a fine job and documented well. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/724118/1983-subaru-gl
  6. I had hg issues on my 86 gen 2 hatch that a generous board member helped me with put it all back together got it timed and it runs fine. The motor mounts were good the only hiccup we were having was the carb. I know the choke on the weber needs replacing but once warm it will run and sounds as it should. The problem is the low idle 5-700 Rpm and the thing shakes with the hood propped up it is a little exaggerated. The carb has been readjusted a few times and yes I sure my friend has a good working knowledge of the carb. Just covering all my bases with the info. Is there anything I am missing or something else I should look into? Mike
  7. actually if it comes with the plate on the left the knob stuff is a knock out and is pretty easy. I have one and that's what I did. It has just enough room for the deck I was using anyway. However you will have to as previously mentioned cut your factory console. Mike
  8. try amazon.com. The last time I saw one it was there.
  9. Well since it pertains I would love to hear what they told you and the accompanying price tag.. I didn't think they would have anything for a gen2 aside from springs. and as for old threads I am pretty sure it was Numchux but that was gen3. Mike
  10. The higher powered engines came in the mid to late 90s here. They will have IIRC single port exhaust and are interference engines so if or when you lose a timing belt it is time to have the heads and pistons checked. Mike
  11. I believe you are having a hard time with that specifically because aside from cams it is more cost effective to do a 2.2 or frankenmotor swap. You can get the dual port headers in several places but ebay is the cheapest then add cams. I would call someplace like RPM Rons or go to the website They seem to be able to get anything you need at least for the engines I have looked at. Mike
  12. oops Gen 2 hatch. Mine heats the feet pretty good but not so good on defrosting the window when fogged up. The problem is that it is on defrost not floor. My other gen two is doing something similar but not as bad and the ducting is all connected. Is there something I am missing? the controls feel normal not too easy like a broken or removed rod but not stiff like they are frozen.
  13. I have 185 80 13s on mine but they are snow tires so light wheeling only for me, but they are fun in the mud too. OD is 25" and some change. Another option if you wanna take your chances with Walmart tires is the douglas xtra trac. I don't know what sizes they have though but they do have a decent lug pattern for a cheap flimsy tire.
  14. If you can recruit some help once the heads are done you can it in a few hours taking your time.
  15. He could but He is having too much fun playing on the board and doesn't want to look into anything via manuals. I do have everything but FSMs and I know where to find them.
  16. why not just use a marine amplifier. Not water proof but they are water resistant. I have always wanted to try one of the Clarion units but there are many others and most will fit under the seat as long as you arent trying to push huge power. Mike
  17. I don't know about all the laws in your neck of the woods, however if you were to keep receipts for everything you do and purchase and the owner comes looking for that brat you may be able to get some restitution that way. Rust repair upgrades paint etc and do not forget your time @ say whatever your hourly wage is. That would be a huge deterrent for someone trying to pull a scam. Mike
  18. Yup! That is freaking cool. Too bad the labor would kill the affordability of it or I would buy 1 or 2 from you. Mike
  19. Now we need a video for us to asses your project objectively I love it. A very nice work of art and the paint looks like it is a very good match to the stock. Mike
  20. It has been done though I do not remember by whom. Unfortunately I do not a video/audio clip for reference. Seems to me he ran 1.5" back on both sides and wasn't too loud but the muffler will have a greater effect on that. Granted this was several years ago and I am probably remembering incorrectly as usual.
  21. It sounds good in person also and you would probably love my computer speakers. MMM home stereo connected via toslink cable:grin: Mike
  22. I totally forgot about push buttons being only single range. I will now go back to my corner and be a spectator. And maybe munch on some humble pie.
  23. There are both kinds. The preferred tranny is manual/mechanical. But there is also a push button which I think is electric and would need the solenoids and such.( I honestly cannot say beyond that as I do not have either kind ) As far as bolting up both will without any problems. Mike
  24. Hey! I resemble that remark:grin:. It isn't for a lack of trying just not enough experience/understanding. Being able to read a schematic would be hugely beneficial
