  1. my 86 gl wagon, carbed engine has got a very oily air filter now, could this be from a sticky pcv valve, all the vac hoses have oil in them too. the engine runs good , no reduction in power, kinda weird
  2. try driving it to a dirt road if you can. my 86 gl dual range had a hard time shifting out of 4x4 before i got all the same new tires, it would only shift out on dirt or snow. just not dry pavement
  3. thats a beautiful thing, we have to get our sons interested in nature and cars, so we will have another generation of subie lovers

  13. the dash guage sensor only has one spade terminal on it , and the cts has a two prong plastic plug., check the ohms between the two sensors, my manual says 3000 ohms cold and 800 hot,
  14. I heard you guys got a whole lot of rain, ill have to make a trip out there and bring a 4 place car trailer whith me , and snag some of thoes 250 dollar beauties and bring them home to the rust belt, its a little closer than the west
  15. the speed control is done by a series of three resistor coils under the passenger side dash near the fan motor, their is a thread here someware that has pictures, anyhow their easly replaced, less than 5 minits, you can get a known good one from a junk yard , or you can make new coils with nichrome wire and solder them in, either way its very easy
  16. i used a cutoff tool, (a small 3 inch thin air grinder) and sliced the doj just enough to crack it , taking care not to grind to deep so you ruin the splines. and used a good sharp chisle and a v bfh
  17. for diagnostics most shops around hereuse co2 to pressure test a system, liquid co2 to blow any debris out, like burnt compressor parts. yikes
  18. would a coolant temp sensor malfunction cause the engine to idle fine then drop off and for a half second then idle fine and repeat this randomly, i have been having this problem for a week, have checked all the simple things to no avail..thanks
  19. as nipper says, the system has to be evacuated, and a vacuum has to be pulled on the system. this does a few things, one it removes all the moisture, it removes all the incompatable r12 oil, and it also checks for any remaining leaks, once the system its on a state of vacuum, (i give it at least 45 minuts), you can fill the system, first the oil charge , then the remaining r134a. look for the ac specs on the hood to see how much in ounces to fill the system, or a F S manual, i have seen some air compressor powerd vacuum pumps online for 25 or 30 bucks. chiltons has a manual that covers automotive ac systems, its a good read, and comes with flowcharts, and explains the tools of the trade ie vacuum pumps manifold guages etc.
