  1. Welcome from Rhode Island! You'll grow to love this site. The info. is unending and the people are great. enjoy:banana:
  2. No, the problem has long since been fixed with a new knock sensor. And the p1143 was due to a lack of a working evap system which is also fixed. It passed emissions inspection but failed the "safety inspection" for a bad front axle which has also been replaced. I'm now working on a bad front u-joint in the propelleshaft, the last (I hope) issue with this car. Thanks for the input though.
  3. Well then I've been doing it flawlessly wrong for 6 years now! Like I said I've never had a air bound issue with a soob.
  4. You could try marking where it is now and then put it where it was before it was changed. I think there's something more going though.
  5. Except for running the motor what nipper wrote sounds like pretty much what I do. I think I may have even done it with the motor running a few times. I never could relate to the problems I read about here with air bound coolant systems. They really are easy to burb.
  6. All this sounds very convolooted, top hose filling, raising the front of the car. Just take the plug out when filling. I've never had a soob air bound doing it thatway. If the coolant is coming out the hole than there is no air.
  7. Yes that's right gear oil comes out:lol: When I unbolted and removed the rear section a little gear oil came out is that normal? I'm getting ready to leave for work now, (3rd shift). When I get home in the AM I will take those measurments and PM you. Why are you scrapping cars with less than 1000 miles on them? Is scrap that high now?:-\
  8. Thinking about this a little more doesn't the power go from "...the wheels that slip to the wheels that grip?"
  9. Glad to hear you made out ok. That phillps looking plug on the passenger side of the raditor is for burbing. Make sure the screw driver you use isn't sharp and don't press down too hard or you'll put a hole in it! Ask me how I know!!
  10. Well you made up for the hijacking with a good answer that makes sense. I kinda thought it was normal but couldn't quite put may finger on why. Thanks. Now I have to get the car back up the driveway!
  11. It appeares my thread got hijacked, so I'll repeat the question. I took the propellershaft out of my OBW MT now it doesn't move it just revs like the clutch isn't engaged. Is this normal or has the car been a rear wheel drive all this time?
  12. Gary, do you have the bleeder plug on the passenger side out? I take the plug out and fill thru the opening where the cap goes. I keep filling until fluid comes out the bleeder hole. I then run it with the cap loose until it gets to op temp (Tstat open) I take the plug back out the cap off and top it off again until fluid comes out the plug hole.
  13. So, I took the propellershaft out of my OBW. Now the car doesn't move at all. Is that normal for a MT or have I had rear wheel drive all this time and didn't know it?
  14. Also check for a bad ground, common to the dash. Also possible a bad wiper control arm with a hot wire that ocassionally contacts gound would cause problems like this. Electrical issues are the worst for me hate em.
  15. Thanks everyone, I know the STi MT was a joke although the OB could actually use a 6th speed. Don't worry I'm not spending $700 on a driveshaft. I looked @ subarupartsforyou.com to find out what they get for a new one, that's way over budget. I have been considering grinding the stakes down with a dremel tool and replacing the ujoint. I haven't quite figured how to restake the replacment. Also I'll be hearing from MWE this week, I just bought 2 front axles from them. What beauties! I almost hung em on the wall instead of installing them. The boneyards around here usually get half what the part costs new, I don't think I'll be paying $350 either. Actually it was the Haynes manual that stated the U joints can't be replaced. Thanks again. Hope Valley is in Rhode Island which is a small state between Mass. and Conn.
  16. If you end up not being able to use the 97 OB I need the front of the propeller shaft for my 97 OB.
  17. Thanks, I've searched the for sale page and have an ad on the parts wanted page. I also sent an email to MWE asking what they can do. Also a couple of emails to people on the sale page that had items for sale that led me to think they may have what I need. I'm so angry I could chew nails! This car isn't worth this much trouble. But now that it's almost done and with all the time and money invested I've got to go all the way.
  18. Sounds like it maybe a "rollover valve" Checks the flow of fuel in the event of a rollover:Flame:
