Caboobaroo replied to Zefy's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I need a set of alloys for my Brat... those are gonna look pimp! Maybe I can score a set of 4-spke EA81T alloys..... -
[hijack] There IS that RX in Utah that I could go get for you if you'd like. I got a spare fuel pump to throw in it and drive it back here. Shoot me a PM and we'll talk [/hijack]

'78 Brat comin back
Caboobaroo replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
ok I got some front fenders from a junkyard like years ago when I was building my '79 wagon which I ended up giving to Paul. The fenders, before I moved, I decided to shave the side marker lights, and the trim off of them. They look sweet but I just need to get them out here from Oregon. As far as the door handles, locks and mirrors, I will be shaving them totally off and putting in a shaved door handle kit that I can get for a couple hundred bucks. Since I also removed my front and rear bumpers when I first got the car, I will also be making the body around the front and back where the bumper wraps around smoother and be adding in a roll pan. Then maybe do some sort of tubbing in the rear (unsure of yet) with some nice big tires. I'm going to get a 3.90VLSD eventually when I convert my RX to 3.90s and then use the stock LSD from that, convert it to a 3.90 and then slap that puppy in. As far as drivetrain, I do have a solid lifter EA81 in my garage in need of a front main seal so I might go with that. Also, I might be able to score a single range 4-speed from a '83 DL wagon. Granted, I wouldn't mind going with the 5-speed but I would have to make a driveshaft work for it and just a lot more work that I want to do right now. -
Hondasuck's turbowagon had a stock rear swaybar but yes, it was wimpy. Now the 5-lug and those bigger swaybars made it handle on rails:headbang:

'78 Brat comin back
Caboobaroo replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
this project started like over a year ago, right before I bought my RX. Now my RX has taken all of my thought away from the Brat and seeing it sit there as literally a bare shell, I had a tear come to my eye. I missed harassing all the stoopid little kids with it. Hopefully I can get a website going called www.fattybrattyburnouts.com -
what happened to ebay coilovers??
Caboobaroo replied to eddygordouk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah thats why I was getting a little confused because I know that most of the EJ series cars have 4 struts so I musta been getting myself all confused while looking at different parts. Hmmm, LGT coilovers..... I hear the bank breaking already:rolleyes: -
'78 Brat comin back
Caboobaroo replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Nope, I'm gonna leave it slammed like I had it. Also going to leave it RWD as well but I plan on dropping a Weber onto it, doing my custom EA81 front suspension/brake swap with the custom control arms I made years ago, plus a rear disc brake conversion. Most of the mods are going to be done on the body itself, like shaved doorhandles, locks, mirrors, the EA82 style popping gastank latch, my gen 1 airdam I have, plus a few other things. I'm rollin it back into the shop here in a couple weeks once I get a bit more work done on the RX. -
So today, I have declared to work on my '78 Brat. I'm going to get the fornt suspension put back underneath it today and hopefully back on 4 wheels. Then I'll be putting a hydro lifter EA81 into it with a dual range 4-speed that will be locked into 4 hi. I'll only have a few things missing which won't matter too much to get it back on the road, I just miss my little lowered Brat:headbang:

The dash from an EA81 vehicle will fit into your car if I'm not mistaken

Nissan 280ZX Turbo Injector Swap *DONE PROOF*
Caboobaroo replied to Steveman09's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
yes but you seem to forget that injectors have a limit themselves and unfortunalty, our injectors are already up into their 80% range. Bumping up the fuel pressure too much will max them out which isn't much for our injectors. -
what happened to ebay coilovers??
Caboobaroo replied to eddygordouk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well I was wondering about using Impreza suspension in the rear for an upgrade. I know I can put coilovers on the stock shocks, just looking for more of an upgrade;) -
'84 turbo coupe with a weird tranny issue
Caboobaroo replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
sweet! well since we have the extra parts laying around, might as well just do that then trying to stick a 5-speed in there for right now. Eventually, it'll hopefully get a NA d/r 5-speed;) -

any pics of the work done to it besides the ones of the car done? -
'84 turbo coupe with a weird tranny issue
Caboobaroo replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
sweet, I also forgot to mention that he said it wasn't reading on the stick so he added like a quart and a half to it before he could read it on the stick. Fluid seemed to be all right in color but I'll drive it again and see if there is a fluid swappage between the front diff and the tranny. Anymore thoughts? -
So LUVMYRBAT's daughter has this '84 t-coupe. Yesterday, while driving around town, the tranny started making a whirring noise on decelleration. I took it for a quick test drive (and BTW, it hauls butt compared to the turbo Brat) and heard the same sound. Whenever you're on the decelleration, it has this loud whirring sound coming from the transmission. Acelleration and cruising it seems fine, no slippage, just the sound when you're off the gas. I have yet to crawl underneath it to see if there's a chance of something rubbing on it somewhere but its weird. Also, on decelleration, with the tranny in neutral, it makes the same noise but not as loud and the speed of it goes with the speed of the car. Any thoughts? Oh, tranny has been replaced before in this car. This is the replacement tranny LUVMYBRAT got from TurboXT a few months ago. No problems until this.

Nissan 280ZX Turbo Injector Swap *DONE PROOF*

I can't wai to get a set and instlal them. Maybe then I won't have any leaning out issues at stock boost due to the TD04 flowing more air. -
reinstalling clutch cable after engine swap
Caboobaroo replied to idosubaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I had this sort of problem before as well. Check inside the car where the clucth cable comes through the firewall. I know on my RX now, and a few other EA82s that I've worked on, there's a spring down there and if its not setup right, it'll go to the floor and not return. Also, did you check the clutch for as well? I know that where it pivots will sometimes break and it will do the same thing. If the clutch fork didn't break, make sure the pivot is lubed up really good to prevent it from wearing and breaking. -
I'd go with a BOV... awesome whooshing sounds and my RX seems to be ok with it:D
-
you can use a donor car that is any EA82 except the XT6. Doesn't matter the year, just make sure it doesn't have the air ride as well, plus check to see if the struts are still possibly good. Any signs of oil residue on the cylinder behind the spring and I would just move onto the next car...

so I'm guessing you used the TPS for the spyder intake cause I believe you used a NA intake like I did. From what you're saying is just to leave it as is and it should be fine? Just mess with the timing and get her goin huh? I'll just have to do that... Also, since you decided to respond to this post as well, how did you make the AAV fit? Mine is hitting the outlet on my TD04. If anything, I can put it on the firewall and run a couple new lines to it with the wiring as well...
-
for the front strut assemblies, this is what it will consist of when removing them from a donor vehicle. Unbolt the 3 nuts on the strut tower, unbolt the bottom of the strut from the knuckle. Pull the brake line off the side of the strut and voila, strut assembly. For the rear, there are two bolts that hold the top of the coilover to the body and one that bolts the bottom to the trailing arm. Remove those 3 bolts and you're set!

So discussing this matter with kingbobdole, having my own FSM for a spyder intake, and a cut apart 3-pin harness, I'm still having issues on figuring this all out. Now the 3-pin harness only has 2 wires going into the TPS, whereas according to my FSM for the spyder intake, there's 4 wires going into the TPS. I have specs for the spyder TPS as far as voltages and whatnot, but she still has this hesitation I mentioned in another post. So, experts, how do I retrofit a 3-pin TPS onto my spyder intake? I can cut apart my 4-pin harness on the spyder if need be, thats not a problem but having a basic wiring diagram would help greatly! If its a matter of cutting and splicing a couple wires together and mounting the TPS, I can do that but without the FSM for the 3-pin TPS, I'm totally lost. Also, on the 4-pin harness, it shows the wires going into different spots on the ECM, or is it because the ECM from an XT is totally different from a regular EA82 MPFI ECM? Thanks for all the help since I gotta get my RX on the road ASAP!

the turbo that came on the Eclipse/Talon is a TD05 which is very similar but yet different in its own ways. The TD04 is a stock turbo that comes on the WRX's.
