  1. Will.... how soon do you need parts? I'm moving to Washington and I can see about rounding up the parts for you. I had to have baccaruda get me some of my 5-lug parts (mainly rear) because you don't EVER see them in Wyoming and I rarely get down to Colorado to go yard hopping...
  2. Is that the one Mudrat had? Looks like his place in the backround. Good job, looks awesome!
  3. you know you can upgrade your front brakes and its a direct bolt on swap. All you'd need would be the calipers and the front hubs/rotors from a mid '83 EA81 and up. Gives you vented front disc brakes and parts are easier to come by.
  4. If the positive battery cable is still stock, then it will have a fuseable link up near where it connects to the battery. They're actually 2 in parallel, both about 1 1/2" long IIRC. The other thing I can thing of is the connections on the back of the instrument cluster are dirty and need to be cleaned which is easiest when the cluster is out. It will also give you better access to the headlight switch and you can figure out why your dash lights don't come on. The speedo cable should just snap in and out of the back of the cluster. I found it easiest when the steering wheel has been removed to give you more room.
  5. The MS setup he's running woun't have a MAF, it'll have a MAP sensor instead. I'm stoked on this build and I can't wait to see the final outcome of it:headbang:
  6. well unfortunatly, I can't wait a week to get them which kinda sucks. So here's the plan.... EA81 hydrolifter block EA81 solid lifter heads (valves, and springs) hydro rockers and pushrods Hopefully this setup will work! I've got the EA82 powersteering setup on it now so when I drop it into the car, it should be workable. Then drop in my modded disty and the SPFI that is stock in my coupe, slap it on a turbo EA82 crossmember, RX tranny, full 5-lug and away I go!
  7. I'm not following what you're asking. Are you asking what is involved with swapping the stock EA82T heads (probably gen 1) on your wagon for gen 3 heads? If so, you need to remove the intake, exhaust, valve covers, cam cases, lifters, rockers, unbolt the heads, load the new heads up with your valves, springs, new seals, install lifters, install rockers, install cam cases, valvecovers, intake and exhaust. All of which is going to have to be done outside the car for easiest workability. Turbo will also have to come off as well.
  8. Dealership here is a no go. Just a bunch of retards working behind a counter. I've had mucho trouble with them getting me the right parts for my RX so I think that it wouldn't be very easy to even *remember* what an old Subaru looks like, let alone parts. No specialty nuts-n-bolts place big enough here to carry anything like that either. Paul, expanding rubber type? I'm not sure on what those are... Machince shops around here... I think there's one and they do domestic. They *might* have done some import but I highly doubt that they would have something like this laying around. So my next question... would heads from a solid lifter EA81 work on a hydrolifter block? I know the pushrods are different and the valves are smaller but I have everything from the hydrolifter block and everything from the solid lifter block....
  9. So I noticed today while I was under my RX stripping the last few parts outta it, something laying on my shop floor. I get out and pick up said object and was like "Hmm, this looks like a freeze plug..." Looked at one heads from my EA81 hydrolifter that I'm resealing and noticed that there was one missing from this head. Looked at the other side and 2 are missing... sonofa*****. I've heard these can be a pain to find since they are metric so where can I get a half dozen of them? If I'm going to replace one, might as well replace them all... I need then ASAP too......
  10. yeah I have it and so I might as well keep it.I'll be driving it with this configuration for awhile until I get the EJ20 in there so might as well keep it comfortable:grin:
  11. My engine will be done today:grin: Hopefully I can drive it sometime this week.. then its onto the 5-lug and tranny swap:-p
  12. I know Bill still has the ECU in the turbo Brat... Might wanna shoot him a PM about it.
  13. Ok just a little bit of an update. Since I found that I cannot use the solid lifter EA81 that I have, I decided to start on the hydrolifter EA81 that I have as well. Reason for not using the solid lifter EA81 was because since it was such an early block, it did not have the bosses on top of the block to put my EA82 powersteering setup on it and I'll be a politician if I want to drive it 18 hours to Seattle with no powersteering on the interstate. The hydro block does have the bosses and 2 of the 3 holes already drilled and tapped. So tonight, I stripped the hydrolifter engine down to the shortblock and the oilpan, then went to work making sure the powersteering setup is going to work. I basically bolted the PS bracket onto the block, then the pump, and then the pulley. After all this, its a little chilly outside and I smacked my f***ed up finger pretty bad so I called it a night. I did however get some pics of it on the engine and what sort of spacers I'm going to have to use on the pump to space the pulley out about 1/4", maybe less. http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2914969060067339125zEiyyS http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2950891080067339125FPRfXN http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2027434530067339125nxMlJV
  14. How's the fuel mileage Mike? Sounds like something with the fuel system is not funtioning properly. Running too rich will cause the dying issue. Sounds like either the fuel injector is stuck open, the fuel pressure regulator is bunked and letting too much fuel in, or the fuel pump might have an issue. The other idea is since this is an eletrical disty, you might be having an issue with it as well. Just a few things to check out.
  15. My coupe WILL be done by then. Complete with 5-lug and 5-speed RX tranny. Running as well I might add. I'm not missing probably the last Subaru meet before I move to Seattle and it'll definatly not be in something other then a Subaru.
  16. I'd make a brace to go from halfway down the bars that go from the body mounts to the diff, to the lift blocks that the trailing arms attach to. The only thing though is to make both ends of the bars have bushings in them to help relieve stress on the welds. Just a though and it would help with lateral and longitudenal applications.
  17. I noticed a couple weeks ago in the ebay/craigslist forum of this board, McBrat had posted up an original SOA ski rack attachment for factory wagon roof racks. Since I have one that is making its way to my coupe (I also have a bike rack for my mountainbike) I decided that this would also get its use after I move to head up to the mountains in Washington during the wintertime to go snowboarding. I bid on it, won, and including shipping, it cost me LESS then $30 to my door. Funny thing is, is it came from Bellingham, WA... So it arrived today and its still in the original box with original instructions. It also has NEVER been mounted either since the hardware is in the plastic still and came with 4 keys as well. Check it out! http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2930060430067339125ZjRgoC http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2968369920067339125EptCoE http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2851124860067339125lZrkPm http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2119981910067339125cuQMFx Thanks Mick for the ebay link!
  18. Might wanna contact the Korean since I know he's looking for parts to fix my RX.
  19. Yes, the only differences in the suspension really is the spring rates are different.
  20. So some of you know that I came down to Denver this weekend in my $60 Audi. Early Sunday morning, after leaving a bar (no I wasn't drunk), I was following a friend to her house but she had to drop off a couple people. Last person she dropped off down by 84th and Wadsworth, the passenger side front brake caliper siezed on my Audi and breaking the axle. So if some of you are going to the yards here soon, keep an eye open for those two parts so I can come down and fix it. I got money and paypal so let me know, thanks.
  21. yeah thats where I saw the use of it;) I'm just going to use the hydrolifter EA81 I have and drilland helicoil the holes so I can mount the PS bracket to it...
  22. The other two Brats aren't mine, those belong to LUVMYBRAT. The red gen 2 which is in the center is an '84 turboBrat with mucho rust issues so it was stripped for its drivetrain and the beige one on the end is a '79 DL thats going to be donating parts to mine.
  23. you need the following list and I might not have everything you'll need on it... EA82T engine with wiring harness and ECU any EA82 FI fuel pump (SPFI, MPFI, MPFI turbo) fuel lines clutch and flywheel EA82T crossmember exhaust instrument cluster IIRC and various odds-n-ends inside the engine compartment to make things work that fucntion with the engine. To do a swap like this I would highly recommend a parts car that has the stock EA82T in it to save you headaches of trying to round up certain parts to make it work.
  24. ok well here's the link to the pics... http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2552184850067339125wwlmha http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2904742040067339125nkqhts http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2545513100067339125GoUbmI
  25. Thanks to a fellow board member, LUVMYBRAT, my '78 Brat is getting some love and attention that it has been lacking since i moved to Wyoming. It is currently a shell of a car but it has been media blasted and covered with a black epoxy primer to prevent rust while sitting outside. Maybe one of these weekends, Bill (LUVMYBRAT) and I can get together and get the bodywork done on it since its pretty minimal except for the core support under the battery tray. Here's a few pics of it as of 2/27/07...
