  1. That's too cool! So many of those 4X mags seem to shun Subarus. P.S: Now that I'm moved to ZigZag, we should meet sometime soon....maybe a snow run.
  2. While it was a 4" installed on my car, the clearance prob for the strut tops is same. It helps a lot to have an extra set of hands (or body weight). If you haven't already, remove the control arm bolt to allow for more play, then have your buddy literally stand on the rotor while you get the blocks in place. Of course with my 4" it was easier, because the engine X-member was already dropped 3", so you could put a jack under it and take out the bolts just long enough to get the lift blocks in. It would be far easier to jack up the engine and put in the member bolts, then stuffing those blocks in! I don't think removing the axle will be necessary. Hope that helps!

  3. I'd go with the 4", if you want to run that size tire. Mine is a 4, with 215/75R15's, and I still had to do some minor trimming and bashing. Wheel offset is very important, also...get close to stock, and that should minimize trimming.
  4. Yeah, they'll fit just fine. The first pic in this thread has 31's on it. I've got 16" rims for it now though, so will probably go with 235/70R16....about the same size.
  5. The temp is going to be low without a resistor, but it's wired up to the better of the two temp senders. At least on my rig, you should start to be concerned at 1/2, and it's HG time at 3/4...tested with an infrared thermo.
  6. Oooop, this is not my build thread....sry.
  7. I've heard that's where it's located, and I'll prob get it for the drastic elevation changes 'round here. P.S: Since this is my build thread, your feedback is required. Looks like I'll be changing on the tires. P/U some alloy 16's for it the other day, so even if I go with the retreads it's apparently a different style AT in that size. Might go with dedicated winter tires, then the retread MT's on steel wheels.
  8. Very nice....another wife's wheeler! Hopefully yours is at least getting her hands dirty building it.
  9. I actually made and tested the shear axle on my other wheeler.....and my welds weren't nearly good enough. Don't think it made it even 100ft up the first trail before it snapped, and that was with just (2) 3/16" grade twos holding it together. As for the diff, I am just leaving it open for now, and probably putting the original open one back in my rig for the winter. Like you said, it's easy enough to swap diffs, and install an axle, but for regular winter driving open's prob better than locked anyway. 3ft of the white $hit expected here this weekend!!! Thanks for the nice comments, guys...but it will look just a tad better with some 29's on there.
  10. Thanks, that's exactly what I needed to know! I'll be getting some lego parts anyway, so it may behoove me to get those parts for trips up Mt. Hood.
  11. Ya, the move went well, and now I'm going to get the snow wagon driving! Thanks for all the replies...I suspected it would bolt right up, and I'll have to rewire anyway to mate it up with the GL harness.
  12. I've got a '96 2.2 in my GL, and needs an alt. Has anyone tried bolting up one of the newer 2.5 alts? I searched some, but found zilch. Looking at the pics on O'Reilly's site, a 110A may just bolt up with some minor wiring mods...... 110>85!!!
  13. K, I'm all moved and getting settled now, so time to get this project rolling... The Snow wagon is finally home!!! The 2.2 and SJR adapter are in now (actually done before the move, thanks for the help Scott), and the wiring harness just needs power and grounds soldered up. I'll need to buy a few parts to get her roadworthy: alt, p/s pump & lines, radiator, fans, etc. Tires will be 235/75R15's on drilled alloys. Think I'll give these retreads a try with the Kedge Grip option. Apparently they'll wear 15-20% faster...but I don't care for the price, if traction's better. http://www.treadwright.com/shopnow/product/tabid/61/productid/22/sename/23575r15-atg-c.aspx These are AT's!!!?!!!
  14. Well, after a little break, the harness is almost done. Just need to solder up power and grounds, but I would like to know what's up with the pressure source switching solenoid!?! I know what it's for, but are you guys doing the ODBII swaps hooking it up??? The plugs in question are in the '96 FSM, section 6-3, pg. 118-119: No's B1 and B2. Again, any help is greatly appreciated!!!
  15. Thanks for the correct wordage...that's what I meant, of course.
  16. Basically, there is a solution. I highly doubt your lights are possessed. I'd add a deep-cycle battery inline with the stock one, high-amp alt, use fuses and relays direct from the marine battery, and have a nice row of heavy duty toggles to use sets of four as needed.
  17. Sorry I had to cut out so early guys! We got to the memorial right at 3:00, so it's a good thing we didn't take any more trails. The experimental shear-bolt axle was a bust. We made it not 100ft up one trail, and my weld failed. The result was getting stuck in a slight camber situation. The culprit: My weld couldn't even hold up as well as (2) 5/16" grade 5's.
  18. I don't want to rush it, but the mo' the merrier!!!
  19. SoobieDoo's Big last WA Run............. and I'm going to have to cut out early. Not much would interfere with this run, but my cousin's memorial is in Spanaway at 3:00. At least I hope to get a couple of trails in before leaving, and bringing the bronc as back-up!

    Lift Kits?

No paint!?! I simply forgot when doing mine....... at least it'd take 20+ years to rust out.
  21. Very nice! That's a great kit...and even better now that the strut blocks have captive nuts. The linkage just needs a little lift also. Unbolt the plate under the car with the rubber cushion on it, and play with that for a while. Post#70: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=95517&highlight=trail+wagon&page=7
  22. Nah, I've seen his wiring before You could prob ride along too, if you like.
  23. Sorry to hear that...been there. At least it's not a DD for you, is it? Adding water daily gets old fast, but as long as it's not mixing with oil, it could last a long time still. 1yr+ on mine, and it's still going strong in one of Scott's cars. Hope that makes ya feel better, Jeff...BUT NO MORE IDLING FOREVER AT WALKER! On another note, I'll hopefully be testing a shear-bolt axle next weekend. Anyone have a spare, just in case???
