Winch mounting
That's because of the name brand. :-p

Winch mounting
Agreed...1/4" is the way to go, and it will only be used for an assist. Hopefully the remote has the range to work from inside.

Winch mounting
Have snatch block...will use!!! It is quite the cutie, eh Scott? I'd rather go this route, than add excessive dead weight. My welder will handle 1/4" just fine, Noah, so added with the bumper's thickness, it actually will be about 3/8.

Hey everybody, new here.
Lift and bigger tires are the requisite, but welded rear diff highly recommended. I've yet to explore walker as much as others on here have, but there may be some lighter areas to explore. If not, ride along, camp, and talk Subaruian!

Winch mounting
Thanks, Will. I don't have a lot of bumper left to mount to, so I was thinking of welding some 1/8" steel under the front lip and 1/16" on top for the rear. That would recess the winch nicely into the grill area, which I'll eventually replace with expanded steel. As you can see from the pics, there is no room to raise the winch, due to the hood. If I go 1/4, then that just means having to fish it into that hollow bumper from the backside. Tough...but doable.

Hey everybody, new here.
Come up for the walker camp-out, if you can: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=108518 There's practically no chance you'll have your rig ready in time to wheel there, but it's still camping and hanging out with Subaru nuts.

Winch mounting
Is 1/8" strong enough to mount a winch onto? I'd rather not weld on the base plate, since it may not be replaceable, and holds the fairlead. I may be able to go through as much as 1/4, but it would be a PITA.

SJR testimonials
I started this thread on my own, without permission from Scott, because I believe his products to be "top notch" quality. Of recent I have seen a few negative comments about his products, and I believe this thread will show that the good far outweighs the bad...if everyone running SJR parts pipes up here. Mods please place this anywhere you like, but I am not selling anything, and the majority of what SJR offers is for off-road use. I'll start: '86 GL Wagon EJ-EA adapter plate Redrill flywheel machine service 4" lift kit EA82 4-6 pattern hubs (my own labor to SJR specs) I use my rig as a commuter, appox 45 miles round trip, 5 days a week. It also makes the 644 mile journey to Oregon regularly, and has been seriously wheeled a few times. The lift and hubs have been on for over a year now, and the adapter/flywheel a few months, without a single problem! The only issue I had was some clunking noise from the engine X-member bolts loosening up, and that was my bad for never re-tightening them after driving for a while, as suggested. Installation was a breeze for all of it as well...being mainly manufactured parts, there are no variances, and fitment is excellent. I have future plans in the works, which will include more SJR products to be sure! http://www.sjrlift.com/

EA82 Carbed will it run without the computer?
Scott, we should work on this together. I've got an extra ECU as well, and need to find that relay to get proper EJ pump control.

Looks like it's time for that EJ swap.

That bites, man...just don't get a new job too soon, or at least weekends off again.

+1...they're not only inconvenient, but meant for securing the car when new on a trailer. Not very strong. Nice work on tucking up that exhaust; I may just have to copy that to an extent.

Butters, got to see some mud.
Open exhaust now? I had a glasspack fall off recently, (man do I need a welder!!!) and with the 2nd cat gutted, it may just be louder than open cat-back. 15 bones from amazon. ~E

88 GL D/R Wagon - Another EJ Swap
Are those the dunlops you were referring to? The sidewalls kind of look like the hankook MT's, and they look mean!

Honda Wheeler
Wow...as much as I've been up there, and still haven't seen it all. Great job on the cleanup! I'd like to help out more, as much as the work schedule allows. :-\

lift question
As whiney as my aftermarket one is, it would drive me batty inside. If you go that route, I'd make sure to grommet those lines so they don't spring a leak from rubbing. Post up some pics, if you can.

lift question
As I'm sure you now know, there isn't much help for this online. Lifts vary too much in brand, type, size, etc. Contact Bill for specific questions. I'd load up the car with 1000+ lbs...just to see you do all that work. Seriously, just get the bolts tight. No torque wrench really needed. As for the fuel pump, why are you even messing with that? ~E

Ok, I'll give up the secret project.... He's put a subaru emblem on this: I now just need exhaust done and ECU box for walker time

Good, Cheap CB sugestions?
I brought it up as much as he did, by submitting it to the off road USRM. Maybe a mod can close 'er up for good?

Addicting, isn't it!?! That rear tire is pretty stuffed, but prob bottomed out anyway. Does your's have rear strut adjustment...I've only seen it on my '86.

The Beast: Straight Axle swap Begins!
Right on, Bill..."The Beast" can't be true to it's name with stock drivetrain!!! I'm also interested in this mod, if you feel like going into detail. I'd like my axles to rub, if they could.
