  1. The Justy bod is a great idea...what better soob body to put on a monster frame like that!!!
  2. Thanks, I'll try that tomorrow Gloyale.
  3. Lookin' good! Did you fab up that exhaust after the EJ was put in? The Y pipe on my rig leaves much to be desired. Ground clearance is awful now...some boulders should take care of that shortly
  4. K, I'm not done with the questions just yet. Yes, it runs and drives but now I need to work out the bugs and wire it properly. First off, I wired in switched power from the ignition switch, and it wouldn't start. Tested all the wires with a MM, and found a switched one, but it just plain don't work...so I'm back to constant power and pulling a battery cable. Second, in trying to locate to stock wire for temp, I may have plugged it into a ground or something. I heard a faint pop possibly, and a change in the engine running. Did I just fry the sensor, or what? And lastly, where should I get vacuum for the heater controls? That said, it's a rocket...sure I'll be replacing the clutch soon!!! Thanx, ~E
  5. Runs great now, I had missed a power wire to the ignition coil! Progress here: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?p=909180#post909180 Thanks to all who helped out here, especially 'Chux whose writeup made this even possible!
  6. It's Alive!!! Simple fix, really...I missed a yellow power wire to the engine harness, so the coil had no power. Now I just need to get the wiring finished with switched power, gauges, loom, etc. Oh, and she just purrrrrrs!!!
  7. I'm prob in, pending time off approval.
  8. So true, and this wiring troubleshooting is what seems to give everyone the most probs. We'll see if it's good work, if I don't give up and carb it
  9. The previous questions still apply, but I'm thinking the MAF and knock both would not keep it from running. I checked the fuel pump today, and it runs continuously with the key on...probably because this is a feedback carb model. That makes for some fun in trying to find any info in the books. :-\ I can't even find a relay for it. Now I'm checking all grounds and power to the ecm. All the grounds checked out, as most are routed to the engine harness and should be grounded there. I did find a yellow without power, going to B58#12, but there is no explanation for it in the write-up. What next...any thoughts?
  10. Ah yes...pulling the intake man to run a new engine harness. Once I get my little project done, we'll have to work together on that EJ on-board air system. It was good meeting you, Austin...your and Scott's new lift design looks top-notch!!!
  11. Wow....it didn't fire right up!!! Right now, I have constant power to the L. green wire on the ignition relay, and am not using the fuel pump relay. This is a temp configuration just to hear it run, so that will probably be the next step. The ecm is giving me codes unrelated to those systems though. Am I correct in thinking that any codes you get without using the test connectors are critical for running? I'm now down to just two codes, MAF and knock. The wiring appears to be routed to the correct ecm pins, so they have me a bit stumped. The knock especially, since it is only one wire at the sensor, but two at the ecm. It was slightly frayed at the connector, but I wrapped that up well. Any help will be greatly appreciated...I need to get this car back on the road and return Jeff's loaner very soon! ~E
  12. Here's the mess It didn't fire up right away, but I'm tracking down codes now. Whatever happened to my three days to get 'er done!!! ~E
  13. I likes it!!! The Royale will be jealous
  14. Thanks, 'chux...you confirmed my hopes! I'll be pulling the manifold tonight to get the new harness strapped on.
  15. Bump. So I found the dual port heads mean it's likely phase I...anything else a good identifier?

I haven't seen one lifted, but I'm sure there are some. The departure/approach angles may not be as good as a wagon or hatch, but there are a few XT's lifted, which are prob worse. Some more info would be nice...LSD rear, DR tranny, turbo, etc?
  17. Sounds just like my project: '86 with blown HG's, so it's a good time for an EJ. Didn't know herbie had a porshe engine in it...I hope you didn't have to watch all those movies to find that out.
  18. Major setback today. It had never occurred to me that the engine harness may not plug into the rest. I've got 3 plugs on one, and 2 on another, so it's either swap the engine harness or carb it. Everything else is done now, I just need it to run then wrap up the exhaust.
  19. I just ran into this situation : http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=68357&highlight=obd* My harness and ECU were taken from a different car than the engine, so the harness has three plugs at the battery, and the engine harness has two. It's extra work that I wasn't prepared for, but I can put a 3-plug harness on the engine, just so long as it really is a '94 and OBDI. How many plugs are there for the OBDII's, and is there another way to identify the engine? Thanks, ~E
  20. Not a runner yet, but much closer. Aftermarket fuel pump added, cooling system, intake, power steering lines bent and connected, throttle cable, etc. Now I just need to bolt up the exhaust, wire the alternator, and connect the harness.
  21. Made some progress today I actually started the EJ swap two days ago, but only had a couple of hours after work to help Scott prepare the shop and start disconnecting stuff. Today was the first of three days off to get 'er done. The EJ is now bolted in and radiator all hooked up! Many thanks to Scott!!! The shop and tools, knowledge, and he helped out a lot, installing the clutch and milling the flywheel on the spot. Tomorrow will get a new fuel pump, plug in the ECU and harness, hook up everything else, and hopefully test fire.
  22. Nice finds!!! I'm glad to see you're putting a DR in...it always strikes me funny when those 20+ yr old parts are put in a newer car. Get a clue Subaru!
  23. Love those white gauges...I've not seen them before, having never been in a OB.
  24. This thing is so heavily modified that you can only call it a wheeler. Subaru body, engine, and tranny+ Nissan suspension, t-case, and frame= Fuji H.I. crawler.
  25. It didn't make any sense to me why subaru would label each plug but not identify them, until I downloaded the full FSM and saw the missing pages. I was starting to wonder if I'd get any important questions answered, since the ammo box fiasco, so thanks for clearing that up man!
