  1. Sounds like you've had enough opinions Tom, but tough, here's mine....... Your car is a daily driver, so the grabbers will be best. They may not look as cool, but in newer condition, they'll perform off road. Everyone is just going to recommend whatever they're using, but the fact of the matter is: 1) Your car is a peach 2) So you won't be wheelin it in anything that requires MT's 3) MT's will be inferior on road EVERY DAY. Let's all see how they do in a few weeks in some serious slop: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=116037
  2. Love the gauges!!! Where'd you get those, if I may ask?
  3. Hiya Reid: Sorry, don't have one, but hopefully can offer help. The only way to get the stock cat/Y-pipe will be private sale, 'cause the JY's cut them out for scrap. What you can get from a JY though, is a Y-pipe with a bolt-on flange for a cat. '95 outback?...you'll have to search. That route's preferable, as you can customize the exhaust more for better ground clearance. I had to cut out a chunk of the heat shield to avoid spacing the Y-pipe down too far.
  4. Hope it's a sloppy mess for you guys (and even more so in Oct!)
  5. I'm out, still working Sat's..........for now. Last day will be Friday Oct. 15th, though! (hint, hint)
  6. Def check those relays with a DMM. You should be able to hear that fuel pump. Try using the stock FP relay as a test...hell, my EJ one still isn't hooked up.
  7. Thanks, dhise...exactly what I needed! So far, so good. I've not found anything other than the fuel wiring that's extra, but several bonuses. No bulky SMJ to cut out, separate engine harness plugs from the front garbage, improved ECU plug, and of course the OBDII plug. I'm liking this harness more than the old 'uns.
  8. Anyone have a ECU pin-out for a '96 legacy? The FSM I have apparently lacks that, and it was of great help in numbchuk's write-up!
  9. I've got AT 27's and haven't seen any smaller than that up there. No stuckage yet, but weather could change that easily. Having a welded diff is equally important! Here's mine...one of the funnier vids up there:
  10. Butt right in there, Micheal...you're experience is welcome! Several guys agree that VLSD is best in snow, but my dilemma is having it capable off-road as well. Maybe I'll just go buy that new Subaru air locker. I believe I answered my own question about the welded diff with pulled axle: it won't be as good as an open diff, because it can never transfer any power to the other wheel. Still, that's even more traction than FWD, and it alone does quite well in the white stuff. I'm leaning back towards the quick-disconnect/shear pin axle idea. Pam doesn't want to be the guinea pig, but I could test it first on the trail wagon, both commuting and at Walker valley. 3-wheel-peel for plowed roads, etc, or fully locked in minutes!!! A couple of 1"? pipe flanges, damn good welds, and a selection of different grade bolts for shear testing should do.
  11. I like how that design utilizes the floorpan. That would make building a buggy so much easier than tube alone! What's the powerplant?
  12. Nice, I'll try that resistor trick! Do you have a thread on that build, or is there anything else different? The OBDI I've done wasn't that hard...just really time consuming. Think I'll keep the OBDII connector.
  13. Yup: http://www.sjrlift.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=201&category_id=6&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=100054
  14. It has begun in earnest! The power plant will be a '96 EJ22. It's ideal for this car, being one of the more powerful of the 2.2's, while still being non-interference...I believe. The only downside is the more complex OBDII wiring, which I'm working on over here: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=115361 Since starting this thread, Pam had taken the wheel at Walker valley and liked it, so the diff will need to be welded. A pulled axle, and 3-wheel-peel should be fine for daily use. If I'm understanding this correctly, it's ability in 4WD will be the same as an open diff? Updated pics to come shortly!!!
  15. I've got a build that's not really been started, but now have a '96 legacy EJ for it: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=111205&highlight=snow+wagon The first thing that I could really use some help with is the OBDII harness. I've searched and found some of the differences, like the fuel temp/pressure sensor, but haven't seen what's needed or how they're dealt with. So just what I'm I getting myself into here? Thanks in advance, ~Eric
  16. Yeah, I'd say that's fair progress for one day. Have you run it yet, or need any help with the wiring?
  17. You found mud, and had to break out the tow strap!?! ....wish we could have made it.
  18. Thanks, at the time I had no welder...but I'd recommend doing so.
  19. It'll probably need lifting an inch or so then. Mine's a 4/3 lift, so also 1" suspension over stock, and I just eliminated the rubber "cushion" from the plate directly under the shifter. Post#70: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=95517&highlight=trail+wagon&page=7
  20., Scott... After pulling rear axles for street driving a dozen times now, the idea of (un)locking hubs sounds sweet. Can't wait to see how you mate up the hubs-carrier!!!
  21. Now that the swampers are mounted up, it looks pretty bad @$$!!!
