What Have You Done to your Soobie lately? (Please post in here and keep it going)
Idasho, my BRAT ran on about a 50/50 mix of diesel and gas once before Apparently my dad forgot that gas cans are red and his diesel can is green. He borrowed the BRAT, made it 3 miles down the road and the poor thing started to choke and die on him. He couldn't figure it out until diesel vapors eeked from the fuel filler hose Ran like a champ after he countered the diesel with an even mix of gas... Subynut, that scares me that K&N would include that with one of their kits. If you wanted to go on the cheap, a chunk of plumbing pipe would be a suitable replacement... Twitch

Dryer hose doesn't like suction. Looks like you need a real pipe for that. To Lowes! Twitch

Where does this wire go?
Check for vacuum leaks. And yes, I was going to say it sounded like the oil pressure sending wire. Twitch

ALright, who is this cause I have not seen this one on USMB
The factory Subaru valve cover/airbox/accessory blue is pretty darn close to Chrysler Factory Blue engine paint. Twitch

Return of the Pedal Box monster
I did a home made repair on mine. Bought some angle iron from the hardware store and welded it into every corner on the box. Then shot it with leftover "chrome" paint we somehow acquired over the years. Couple bucks for some angle iron was a lot cheaper than $15 a piece for clutch cables, plus eaten synchros. Twitch PS: I'll see if I can find any of my pics of it

Hmmmm... Bread boards are so rudimentary though. Its too bad somebody doesn't have access to a solder dip tank... Twitch

My cars are usually two tone after a good rain/rally session So I'm working at NAPA now, making better money than I was, and when I was driving the XT in the rain, I noticed how easy it is to light off the front tires Got an offroad show going on at work Saturday and I'm going to try my hand at the teeter-totter in the XT. I'll get pix Twitch

I think what we need to do first is build a piggyback system that records/mimics the signals from the various sensors and senders. That way we can strap it to a functioning car and see what all signals we're supposed to be getting rather than making up our own. Twitch

Ah, I didn't realize how locked down the platform really is. And the HDMI out for visual isn't that big of a deal, thankfully, as smaller and smaller displays are supporting the HDMI standard. As for the "niche" thing, the manufacturer wasn't aiming for that, it just grew around the product, so they went with it. Gotta follow the money trail. Anyway, they were aiming for a small, ARM based SOC which was easily accessible for most anyone to make a computer out of. I'm pretty sure the creators were part of the open computing initiative. Anyway, you're right, Pi is meant more for media and entertainment than menial controller tasks. Arduinos are looking better and better... Twitch

Actually AMD as Intel is a modified x86 processor, but anyway, I was thinking with the main CPU being an x64 and then the subsidaries being the low level processors you speak of, you could remap the driving computer on-the-fly between changing songs And frustrations are a thing of the past for me with Subarus, I've gone straight to threatening the car with a multimeter and a handgun And the flash based memory storage system would handle being drawn on no problem as you mentioned Twitch

I guess I'm too used to x86/x64 hardware Have you looked at VMS as a viable operating system? Twitch PS: I still think it'd be cool to build an x64 powered computer for your car :3

That's what I meant. It could be sourced for initial bootup maps (tables) and possibly for trouble codes, but there would be a RAM bank that the processor would load everything onto for operations And if your flash drive started getting corrupted, you could just load another one with your mapping/programming and go from there. Memory is cheap. You can buy a 1GB flash drive for a couple bucks, even cheaper if you buy in bulk. And those original ECU's were making do with a few MB, if that. So memory constraints are nothing. Hell, RAM can be had for dirt cheap as well, so there is little to no memory constraints to be had, whether its active or storage. Twitch

The distribution of the processing may speed things up, but that amount of processors may drive cost high faster than expected... It may be cheaper to just go with one big CPU rather than a small one and a bunch of slave units. Twitch

I've read your entire thread, and I'm a total programming n00b at best. I'm just curious if a centralized processing unit with good power would be better, as in a Raspberry Pi. They can be had for $25 and are pretty stout little SOC's. I'd be worried about stability, but their direct interface with USB would make updating the code cake, as well as being able to create and load your own fuel/ignition maps easily. And I'm sure that processor has enough oomph to run most any low level code you throw at it, even making on-the-fly adjustments. Just a thought. Twitch

Tried to put a new cap and rotor on the XT (old one is kinda burnt) and turns out the last person who put the rotor on stripped the screw. (insert expletive) So until I can get the old rotor off, the new set is waiting in the passenger seat. Twitch

Haha, ok Ivan. Let's see how it all goes together. I'm wondering how the skirts effect everything as well... Twitch

Hey SmashedGlass, lets hope your engine doesn't leak worse now that you cleaned it I readjusted my headlights last night when I got home because I was sick of not being able to see. Now my high beams actually broadcast a decent distance and my headlights aren't cross-eyed. But I realized my driver's side bulb is in way worse shape than my passenger side. So I'll be getting silverstar's when I get a chance. Ordered NGK wires from the factory for $22 after freight (through my work) and hopefully it'll help kill this (insert long string of expletives) misfire! I'll be taking a brass brush to the contacts in my cap if necessary. But this is getting frustrating. On idle I'm getting about 600-650RPM and it should be up around 800. And the total lack of bottom end is pissing me off as well. Spark plugs look ok, a little lighter than desired, but not bad. V power's, so it should be fine. I'll upping to a platinum if this keeps happening though. That's all for now folks.... Twitch PS: HOLY HELL WE HAD A HELLACIOUS RAINSTORM THIS MORNING.

Rally of course, the Wedge doesn't have the tires available for proper AutoX. And if the EA82T doesn't have the oomph, I think my wagon may be able to take you with all that torque its gonna have But I think your experience will overtake any advantage I may have. Twitch

Hey Subynut, we should race this year at WCSS I'd love to see how the EA82T stands up to an EJ25. And thanks 1982gl4. I've been drooling over the car for a while and when it came up for sale I snagged it as fast as I could. Now I have 2 sets of rare wheels :3 Those Enkeis and my Jackmans! Bwahaha! But the jackman's are saved for my wagon. Hope to see y'all in it this year at WCSS! Twitch

I'll be doing my best. No mods aside from those that wouldn't effect the integrity of the car's value. Like it may be getting a Maxima Alt or XT6 alt if it continues to dim the headlights when I step on the brakes or turn the turn signals on. But my goal is to keep it as rust free (or minimal rust, I'll kill it as I find it) as long as possible, as well as reliable. So no blowing this thing up, no racing it, nothing of that kind. Just driving it. Twitch PS: Off to go wash/wax it

Thank you sir. It's currently providing DD duties and making a hell of a lot better gas saver than my parent's Buick (gag). I should be getting around 30mpg with it (lots of highway on my commute) as long as my foot doesn't bury the skinny pedal too much I have a sneaking suspicion my gas tank vent hose popped off, because I smell fuel occasionally when I get in the car after it sits for a little while. But 92 octane doesn't smell that bad Twitch
