Jens--check P0604 here: http://engine-codes.com/p0604.html If you need a new ECU check into rebuilt/re-programmed units. I put one in a friend's Lexus a while back and it worked perfectly for years--car was still running fine when she sold it.

Stick with Larry's recommendation of 125 ft-lbs. I've even seen it suggested as high as 140 ft-lbs. Sorry heartless, but the consensus is that the FSM is way off on that one!

Suddenly my hood latch won't hold the hood closed. All the individual parts work okay--the safety catch, the release cable, the arm that the cable pulls to release the spring-loaded catch. I'm thinking It's missing a spring--where the red line is in the photo (if you can see the photo!) Am I right? Thanks in advance.

Beginning in 1996 OBD II was mandatory on all cars sold in the US. Subaru, along with some other manufacturers, adopted OBD II a year early, in 1995. I've heard stories that some '95 Subarus didn't have it but I've never seen one personally. You are right, though--the diagnostic plug on the dash is the simplest "proof."

A '95 Legacy is OBD2 . . . or did I miss something here?
