  1. The ECU gets input from the front and rear 02 sensors and determines catalyst efficiency. As everything ages the signals will change, the ECU has the ability to learn and age with the rest of the components. In order for the ECU to throw a code for an 02 sensor there would have to be a reading from one or the other that was totally different than the readings that the ECU was used to receiving. while the readings in catalyst efficiency will gradually change as the car ages, the ECU will not be concerned with this until the readings fall to a predetermined unacceptable level. Which sounds to me like what you have. A car that has this condition will act ok for a while on new sensors because the ECU is learning the characteristics all over again. It has been my experience with this that I have seen converters fail at much lower mileage than you have, reasons are many, but depending on fuel quality, tune up practices etc. they can go out prematurely. I would recommend replacing the cat and if you can afford it, replace the 02 sensors as well. IMHO 100,000 miles is a good time to replace 02 sensors anyway, just like spark plugs.
  2. I think the weird looking rubber one goes under the single point throttle body.
  3. !st gen EJ25 head bolts can be reused as long as inpected. 2nd gen Ej25 head bolts are supposed to be replaced. Personally have reused both on many engines and have never had a problem.
  4. When splicing a connector for an O2, you should solder the connection and heat shrink to seal the connection from the elements.
  5. While working as a tech in Subaru dealerships, I installed a large number of factory short block engines. EJ22 and EJ25 short blocks came with new knock sensors already installed. The point is, knock sensors and O2 sensors, IMHO are maintenance items and should be replaced at regular mileage intervals of 80 to 100 thousand miles. And definitely any time an engine is replaced.
  6. If the cat is rattling around it may also be restricting exhaust flow
  7. Engineers design cars to produce, not to work on. If they can make the belt 6mm shorter by design, think of the money that will be saved on the manufacture of 100,000 cars. The timing belts on Subaru's while sometimes a pain, are still much easier than a lot of other makes.
  8. What is your car? If it is a hose leaking, usually there will be some signs ( puddles, staining etc. )
  9. Dont forget the ea81 turbo sedans!
  10. Should help, how much is hard to tell. stiffer rear springs would work as well, but gets a little complicated matching damper rebound and damping to spring rate.
  11. I doubt you will find a kit for the earlier cars. You may be able to get them by dimension though. Progressive suspension sells individual bushings by size.
  12. Nope this one will stay the way Fuji made it, lol . My other cars are a 2003 Ford Mustang GT, and a 2004 Ford P71 police interceptor, When i feel the need for speed these will come out.
  13. When you refill your cooling system, fill the block through the upper hose, put the hose back on the radiator and fill the radiator. Remove the small plug on the top of the radiator on the opposite side of the cap. Add more coolant until it comes out of the small hole put the plug back in and you are done. Put the correct amount in the overflow when warm and you shouldn't have any:) air pockets......
  14. Someone correct me if I am wrong...If you unplug major components, are you possibly putting the system in a fail safe mode that could artificially correct the problem? Only to have the same problem with a new part if there was nothing wrong with the first one?
  15. Tightnening up one end or the other will increase traction on the other end. If you tighten up the front the understeer will become worse.
  16. It could run fine when cold with a fuel problem...injector is enriched for cold start and warm up. Timing problem should be consistant.
  17. How about fuel flow? low pressure? clogged filter?
  18. If you wanted to reduce your understeer, try a larger diameter rear sway bar.
  19. greenley, yeah that was me, how did your brakes turn out?
