  1. '98 Legacy L wagon 4EAT, 150k get about 25 MPG on the higway. But O2 is old, has had a full tune-up recently.
  2. Very good idea even at $36 a pop a complete over haul of the front end steering parts is $145!!! We need assemblies!!
  3. Well I went for NH inspection today and he confirmed my fear drivers side, inner tie rod has to much play in it. That is why my steeing wheel in shaking above 65MPH. Only one I found from subaruparts online is $65. Anyone found a inner tie-rod for less? How had is it to replace, I know I will need a alignment after words. I have 150k should I replace the inner and outer tie-rods on both sides now?
  4. Well the 4EAT in my '98 Legacy L wagon with 150k is geting worse. I have drain and refilled with semi-syn. ATF. The screen was changed about 60k ago when the pan was droped. IT takes about 3,000RPM's before she starts to feel like she is pulling on the first couple of take off's! Then after warm up it performs better on take off's and starts to pull around 1,500 RPM.
  5. Have since used teh Deep Creep from Seafoam and it smoothed out my idle again, this time with no CEL. BUT, last night I was driving on the hioghway and CEL came on again. Got it scaned and YEP upstream )2. How hard is it to replace it the upstream in a Cali. emisions equiped car? Will the $42 universal 02 I found work?
  6. WOW guys this is great did it to my Mom's GT and no more noise!!!!! This board ROCKS!!!!
  7. Would this "pinching" fix work for the '98 that has teh wind noise problem again?
  8. Wow this would be a great thread for a sticky if it has digital pics "hint, hint". I belive you guys are speaking of the rubber channel style weather stiping right behind the side veiw mirrior mounting and the triangular cover on the inside of the door. Do I pinch it up where that edge of the triangle meets the A pillar/roof and the leading edge of the window meet? I am looking stight at it if I have the door opean and am looking from the back of the door to the front, correct?
  9. My Mom's '03 GT Limited Sedan is doing the same thing our '98 Legacy L wagon id with this wind noise on the drivers side. You would think Subaru would have addressed it by now?? Anyways do any of you have a digital pic you could take of the gusset you reffer to?? And where to pinch it?
  10. Thanks for the link but the problem associated with stretched band does not seem to be the problem I am having with the 4EAT in my ’98 Legacy L wagons with 155k? It shifts fine but when you first start the car in the morning and it is cold it takes more throttle to get it going in Drive than when the car is warmed up. After a few standing starts she works fine???
  11. This Easter long weekend is the first time I have driven my Mom's new '03 GT limited sedan with the moonroof open! I was impressed even with a somewhat dirty stock paper air filter the intake took on a DEEP drone when under load and WOT!!! Sounded great, but scared my girlfriend so I close the roof. Her stock tires (Bridgestones) don't seem to be holding up to well 20k. Anyone put the Kumho's on there GT yet?? I canged teh oil over to our Spring and summer weight for her in New York 10W-30. She sits in traffic allot so heavy is better.
  12. As stated above in this thread it is a upper engine and intake system cleaner!! You can get it in Danbury, CT at any Auto Zone or Advanced Autoparts store. It comes in liquid or spray. Check out the web address above and get some the directions on on the back of the can, performs miricles!!
  13. If the Off-roading does not interest you I would go for the GT sedan or wagon it has the turbo and will handle the twisty moutain roads even better!!!
  14. Well VERY high up there is less oxygen a Turbo can't make-up for that. But the reduction in power of a turbo at high altitude is MUCH less than a N/A engine. That is also why they used turbo and super charging of piston type high altitude aircraft engines like the WWII B-17 Flying Fortress.
  15. See with a Turbo you are already utilizing forced induction. As you get to higher altitude the air is thiner. But the turbo makes up this diff. by spining fast to cram more air (with oxg.) into your engine. Where a N/A engine starts to lose power at higher altitude the turbo is less effected. That is why Frightliner out of the Westcoast started using turbos on there desiel engines for there semi tractors, to pull up the long grades at high altitude in the Rocky's! Hey, and it's cool to listen to the dwarf under the hood "whistle while it works!!!"
  16. Allong the lowwer kick panels remove any small rocks lodgedin drain holes. remove body plugs on the botom of the car and clean them out also. Two imports with over 200k in New England with no sign of rust can't be wrong. Use Extend or Rust converter to convert existingrust you can't get to or is to far gone then coat over with your choice after a two day dry time to keep mostuire away.
  17. there are two forms of Seafoam. One is a liquid in a bottle you can get it at any Auto Zone or Advanced Autoparts store. You suck this stuff through one of the vacuum lines on top of your Throdle Body. The other is Called Deep Creep and it is a spray in a can that is sprayed in the TB to clean it out. Directions are on teh back of both. It cleans out carbon deposits, and elts the parts of teh fuel injection work better.
  18. Now THAT makes sense!! If you are headed to Montana I would actualy RECOMEND the Outback. My girl is from Billings Montana, when we go to see her grandparents on the ranch we go Off-Roading all the time on these great trails. If slight off-roading is something you might enjoy I would recomend the Outback. Where in Montana you moving to the Badlands, or the mountains? If the mountains get the turbo it is great for high altitude, it is less effected by thiner air.
  19. I have a '98 Legacy L wagon EJ22, 4EAT Cali. emisions and 144k on the clock. I have had the CEL come on ONCE about 4,000 miles ago becaose of front O2 sensor out of range. But it has not come on again? The O2's are original to this Cali. emisons car. But this winter the car seams to run rich at cold start up. You can smell a strong fuel odor out the tail pipe but no balck smoke for the first three min. the car is running then it runs fine and does not smell like gas out the exhuast pipe. Also I Seafoamed the engine by sucking it into the TB via a vacuum line like 2,000 miles agon and it WORKED LIKE MAGIC!! Turned on the CEL due to mid-fires but once reset ran better than ever. But now when cold it will shake a little when between operating temp and stone cold?? It should not have carboned up that fast? Or should I have used teh Deep Creap to clean the TB also??
  20. But Sconnyite you like all others who posted that they would not be without AWD are ALL IN THE SNOW BELT!!! She lives in Maryland what do they get maybe a slushy inch or two twice a YEAR!!
  21. My question is why do you need the AWD in Maryland? The MPG is not as Good as many FWD imports you could by that would have more power? JMHO
  22. Here in New England (especialy in a NE city like Portland, ME) there are GREAT indpendant Subaru mechanics!! Save your self some dough and hit there for your repairs. My '98 Legacy L wagon EJ22 with 144k on the clock idled like $&* for a long time. I just sucked a 1/3 of a can of Seafoam through one of the vacuum lines and it idles like a NEW CAR NOW!!!
  23. All the AWD owners posting here live in area like I do up in New Hampshire that gets LOTS of snow ALL winter!! But I have friends with narrow tired, FWD, heavy cars, with ABS like the Legacy you are looking at and have NEVER HAD A PROBLEM. I use to live in Indiana about the same climate as Maryland and owned a FWD Toyota wagon stick shift for 320k miles, never a problem in winter weather there! I am actualy going to get a heavy, import, FWD car, with traction control for my next car UP HERE IN NEW HAMPSHIRE! Cause even though I do Ski allot I can't afford the gas in the AWD Subaru any longer. I do sales in Maine, Vermont , and New Hampshire!! Summing it all up YOU LIVE IN MARYLAND, YOU WILL LOVE THE GAS YOU SAVE WITH THE FWD ROO!! The AWD just sucks to much gas to make it worth it for as often as you need it.
