  1. Should stay lit all the way to redline, unless you let off the gas. I've noticed that under very light throttle, mine comes on very easily between 3500-4500rpm. But if you're putting your foot down, it should come on at around 2500-3000 and stay on until you let your foot off the gas or shift. That being said... with my ported and polished VF7, my boost light will come on at 1500rpm when giving lots of gas and clutch to get started from a stop on a 10% grade.
  2. Supposedly helps keep them cool. You can use a solid belt, one notched on the bottom, or one notched on top- all will work as long as they have the V-type cross section.
  3. Sounds like blowby. Likely bad rings. But yes, more info would be a big help.
  4. I've had the same problem Skip described- definitely worth looking into. Also have had grounding problems. Always a good idea to run a couple big beefy ground wires from the bellhousing to the chassis as well. More cowbell never hurts either.
  5. Thread a lug nut on and pull on it as hard as you can while you pound the drum with the hammer. Always worked for me.
  6. I drove my RX in RWD for about 2000 miles with no trouble. You should be fine.
  7. After looking at the dash... you need to add about 20 more switches and lights, to make it look a bit more Skip-esque.
  8. Never heard of a white RS... we talked about them in the marketplace last month and people said they were only available in black and red. FT4WD on one is definitely conceivable- far as I know they were available with all Loyale options, which means if it had the turbo and 4WD options, it would have FT4WD. They definitely were not all MPFI- the local boneyard had two SPFI ones, one of them didn't even have A/C. Both were single range part time 4WD- one manual, one 3sp auto. I would take pics, but they've both since been crushinated.
  9. All they are is just an ordinary Loyale with an air dam and wing. All Loyale options apply. So yes, a select few were turbo- but with none of the RX goodies.
  10. The early Imprezas were available with an EJ18. The only 1993 model available with the EA82 was the Loyale.
  11. Could it be that the struts are especially stiff from being stored uncompressed for so long? So maybe after a couple hundred miles they'll level out? This is my first time using brand new struts, thought I'd ask.
  12. After a narrow scrape at not having a car to drive up there, all is well and the car is roadworthy again- kinda. The rear springs I put on LIFTED the car instead of lowered it, so now it looks kinda crappy... but hey, it runs.
  13. So I thought 2WD XT rear springs were supposed to make a 3-door ride lower? I used ONLY the springs, NOT the struts. My RX rear struts were so badly rusted that I couldn't get them apart without breaking them. So I ordered new struts from the parts store. I measured before putting them on the car, and yes, they were the same length as the old ones. Yet now the car sits an inch higher than before!! What's the deal here? Yes, I've confirmed that the springs did indeed come from a 2WD XT. When I put the strut together, they barely compressed at all.
  14. Ah, so THAT'S why they never put that intake in the L-series cars!
  15. Ubiquitous Pulp Fiction quote... Sh** man, you bringin in the Moose? That's all you had to say! Hope you can make it Paul. It's been too long. Bring some of that tasty Harpoon.
  16. Yes, but only as long as the gear ratios match. The only early Legacy that I know of that used a 3.9 ratio were the turbo models and the 92-94 automatic models.
  17. Nope, an SPFI head won't work. They only have a single intake port on each head, where turbo and MPFI heads have two. You can use one head from a nonturbo XT, but I forget which side it is. Driver's I believe, someone correct me if I'm wrong. The other side has an extra cooling or oil passage of some sort, I think.
  18. Sounds like a blown head gasket. Seems like you're one of the lucky fellows who had a slow leak instead of a sudden catastrophic failure.
  19. EA81's after 1982?? I believe had an internal regulator, and used an alternator identical to an EA82. Just like Sweet82 said, your alternator is toast.
  20. I had weak grounds on my Loyale, and wired in the homemade equivalent of something like that. But this was just to correct a known electrical problem, and it ended up fixing several electrical glitches. As for improving power and gas mileage? Pure hogwash.
  21. 25 spline is turbo MT or 4 speed AT. 3 speed turbo AT takes a 23 spline.
