  1. An RX style trans with a much lower low range would be nice.
  2. Fairly common, possibly the most common of the Soob alloys. The '85 on the wheels page doesn't indicate the only year they were used- it's just the year they were introduced. They were used from 1985-1989, and possibly some 1990 models as well.
  3. This car is definitely worth picking up- one of the rarest of the rare! Mechanically identical to an 87 RX, only not labeled as an RX.
  4. Manual or automatic? If one axle is spinning and the other not, you may have broken an outer CV joint. It's a fairly easy job to replace.
  5. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/wheels2/wheels.html It's in the "80's Subarus" section of http://www.ultimatesubaru.org.
  6. Even though it was still reading good voltage at the battery with a multitester, I went ahead and threw on one of my spare alts anyway. Problem solved! I've never seen anything happen that way- but, it *was* a parts store special alternator, and I've seen those fail in any way conceivable. Total junk.
  7. I couldn't help but notice the WV temp tag and inspection decal. You buy that thing in the panhandle or something? That's gotta be the cleanest WV soob I've ever seen. Nice find!
  8. Got some more pics uploaded at http://photobucket.com/albums/v504/xtacyturbo/RXses/ The wheels are nothing special really. Just some 14" pug steels painted flat black, with hubcaps from a mid to late 90's Legacy, painted bronze with Walmart wheel paint. I just had this idea in my head that it'd come out looking pretty wicked... and I believe I was right.
  9. Yep, that's right, I finally got my RX back from the shop! Running beautifully on a brand new CCR EA82T. Had some major delays with the local shipping company (they sat on the engine for 5 days before dropping it off), and then the mechanic was dragging his feet- took him a week do to the swap. But, I finally have it back, and I'm in love with it again! Yesterday we replaced the struts with ones from a 2WD XT, sits nice and low now. I also put on 14" Pug steels with Legacy hubcaps painted bronze. Looks sick, and handles like it's on rails! Here's a couple pics:
  10. This has been an ongoing problem ever since I got my RX... has been annoying the crap out of me. Every now and then the voltage reading will suddenly drop to about 10-11 volts. When it drops, the "Charge" and "Stop Lamp" warning lights come on. This low reading will last anywhere from a few seconds to indefinitely. Today I drove the car 40 miles with it reading like that. Here's the funny thing though- the lights still shine brightly, and it's reading between 13 and 14 volts at the battery. I have a few spare alternators around here, so I'm going to swap one tomorrow and see what happens. This really bugs the heck out of me though- why would it be reading so low if the car is obviously running healthy voltage? Any suggestions?
  11. Nobody carries the cat because it's an odd piece. It has 3 pipes attached to it. The two j-pipes from the heads come into the front of it, and a single pipe comes out the back. If you know a good exhaust shop, they may be able to make you a custom y-pipe and use a universal cat farther down the pipe, beyond where the two pipes meet.
  12. The extra two inches would have allowed my loveseat to fit in the wagon.
  13. Back to top. We've tried all of the above (except the air tools) and haven't moved the axle a MILLIMETER. It's fused on on both ends! Just wanting to get the diff out of the car. Any other suggestions?
  14. After visiting my local yard again today... that yard looks clean and spotless. Mine looks like such a junk hole. Plus, the cars are rusted all to hell. I'm posting a thread about it in a few minutes.
  15. Me and Tin Soldier are hitting the East Coast version of this tomorrow. May get pics, maybe not. We'll see. I love salvage yards.
  16. Just wondering... how much air did the previous owner catch when they launched it, and did it at least look spectacular before they landed? :-p
  17. Your blower motor resistor is bad. It slips into the bottom of the blower motor (behind/below the glove box) and is very easy to change. The dealer wants some astronomical amount, I usually just grab a handful from the junkyard and after a couple tries, end up with a good one.
  18. CCR had a little delay from their parts suppliers in building my engine, but communicated well and let me know what was going on every step of the way. Very easy to deal with. The local office for the freight hauling company on the other hand... they've had my engine since Friday and still haven't done jack with it. But, that has nothing to do with CCR, so I'll say no more about it.
  19. Miles Fox helped me do the job in my 92 Loyale. Can be done with the engine installed, but easier to do with the engine out. You need to replace the transmission, shifter assemblies, pedals, flywheel, clutch pressure plate/disc, clutch cable, transmission crossmember, and rear driveshaft.
  20. Belt system is different. XT engine will work just fine swapped with all accessories- or- just swap crank pulleys and use your original accessories. Like he said- basically the same.
  21. According to my parts interchange at work, the last year of 2WD Subarus was 1996 for the Impreza and Legacy and 1995 for the SVX. Though, I've seen very, very few post-1994 2WD models around, if any.
  22. " And it’s a little too late for writing love songs, but I never did anything on time. Happiness on your big adventure. See you Darling down the line." -Drive By Truckers
  23. If I were not in such a bind right now (3 dead vehicles, no drivable vehicles, and all) I would seriously be considering donating my dead RX to ensure that your RX project lived on. Go ahead and focus on the wagon- but promise us you'll make it even more badass than the RX was. Consider it the RX's dying wish. Tonight I'll drink one for your RX. May it rest in peace.
  24. I'm planning to restore my other black RX and just keep it stored in a barn until God-knows-when. West Virginia is full of idiot drivers, and I want to have a spare car for when some idiot pulls out in front of me/slams into me. Because I know it'll happen sometime, hell, it's happened before.
