Anyone know how much an EA82T from CCR costs? Seriously considering it, if I can afford one.

Make sure you use silicon hose.
-
More than likely it's the little silicon cooling hose running to the turbocharger. Them's a pain, good luck with it.

EA82T Burning oil under boost, and blowby...
TROGDOR! replied to TROGDOR!'s topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Crazy thing is, the car was fine yesterday. I gave it some pretty hard runs to see what it could do, and it took it like a champ. Today I put over 100 miles of easy driving on it, and POOF... burning oil like crazy afterward. -
EA82T Burning oil under boost, and blowby...

Driver's side compression: 105 100 Turbo side compression: 60 60 I think we found the problem. -
May not be an entirely happy ending. See this thread: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=35444

Already having trouble with my RX. Yesterday it was fine, as with this morning... no trouble at all. This afternoon the problems started. Under boost, it's burning oil. And I mean LOTS. Huge clouds of blue smoke. This just started out of the blue. Only happens under boost though, under heavy load- like climbing a mountain. Popped the oil cap, and exhaust was blowing out. It's lost a little bit of power, but no rough running or anything. Still runs smooth as silk. But under boost, I get the smoke, and don't have the power I had yesterday. I have a compression tester, but I'm waiting for the engine to cool before removing the plugs. Could it possibly be the turbo? Or does this sound like my rings are shot? Seller offered to put another engine in it for me, so I'm not totally screwed- but quite upset.

Where to find a 87 G-10 MPFI control unit?
TROGDOR! replied to JCEMMA's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
BTW, the car is either SPFI or turbo. The only year nonturbo MPFI's were used in GL-10's was 1985. -
Now that the time is right, it's time for me to tell a story. Back in October of '03, I was doing an internship at an office downtown. One day in the parking garage I spotted a gem- a black RX! The car was in amazing condition, super clean inside and out. Just for the heck of it, I stuck a note under the wiper saying that if they ever wanted to sell the car, call me. I never saw the RX again. I spotted a few cars of the like in town, but each turned out to be a Loyale RS. What a shame, it was such a pretty car. Fast forward to two months ago. I got a call on my cell, no idea who it was, so I didn't pick up. They left a message. It was some guy named Bill... Bill who owned a black RX. A black RX that was parked in the garage that day in 2003. I couldn't believe it- he saved the note! Bill said he was ready to sell the car, and thought he'd give me a call before posting it in the paper. But it gets better. Bill said he had not one, but TWO RX's! And.... both were black! I was flipping out. My girlfriend at the time was with me, and just didn't get it. I was like a kid on Christmas morning. Lots of things went through my head. Has the car deteriorated? Is the other one a basket case? Is he asking some crazy price for the pair? We discussed things a little further. I was waiting on a tax refund, he was planning a trip. We decided to defer things until a little over a month later. Three weeks ago, we arranged a meeting to see the cars. Turns out, RX #1 has a thrown rod. It had been sitting for a while, but wasn't TOO bad. Possibly worth fixing. At that point, I decided I was taking both cars if the other was in similar or better condition. RX #2 was absolutely gorgeous. She was still in the same condition as that day I saw her in the parking garage. The car had had tip top maintenance, and ran better than any EA82 I'd ever seen. Simply amazing. Even the interior was immaculate- with no rips or flattening of the driver's seat side bolsters! We talked pricing. I got Bill down to $1100 for the pair. No way in hell was I letting this go. I left a deposit and promised that he'd be paid in full as soon as my tax refund came back. My tax refund came back this week. And so, here I unveil my best Subaru deal ever (after a little teasing in off topic).... BAM!! It seems I've had twins. The vin numbers are only 700 apart. Both check out, these are genuine RX's! Two black RX's in the same place? Unheard of! I'll have better (and cleaner) pics soon. Drove the pretty one home tonight. AWESOME, awesome car. I'm in love with it already. The non-running one will be trailered home at a later date, at which point I'll go over it with a fine-tooth comb and decide its fate. I'm finally back in a Subaru after a 6-month hiatus, and DAMN, it feels great!!

Poll : Fix it or junk it?
TROGDOR! replied to MudisFun's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
FYI, you can use an engine out of any 4cyl nonturbo XT. You will have to swap the intake (unless you want to do conversion work) and all belt driven accessories/pulleys. Should make locating an engine a lot easier if that's the route you choose. -
Who has done the Honda spring mod?
TROGDOR! replied to Qman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I estimate about 2.5" of lift. Looked beefy, and pumped up in the back. I could run 27" tires on pugs with 3 transmissions and 8 wheels in the trunk with no rubbage. -

86-89 Accord. LXi is the stiffest, DX and LX are softer. I'd recommend the DX or LX springs as the LXi ones I used made for a VERY stiff suspension- would almost slam the wheel back to the ground after certain bumps. The way to tell the difference is that the LXi was the only fuel injected model. -
Something along the same idea as this, maybe?

Back in 1990 my mom's '88 GL wagon took a BMW 5 series to the driver's door at 40 mph. The car was demolished, but the door only intruded about an inch. Didn't even break the glass. Her only injuries were from being whipped to the side when the car was hit. Physics were to blame, not the car. She's fine now though, just was a little stiff for a couple weeks, and had a bit of a bump on the head. I wouldn't hesitate to get in and drive a Subaru any time. I've seen over 100 wrecked ones and never have seen a single one that looks like it could have resulted in serious injury (assuming the driver was belted in).

found a wieard RX yesterday
TROGDOR! replied to tailgatewagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Some early 87's did indeed come in other colors. The yard used to have a silver one, and a guy in town has a very light green one. From 85 to very early 87 model year you could order an RX SEDAN in any color. The coupes though, they were all white- except for the RX wannabes. But the wannabes weren't badged as an RX. -
The answers to 1 and 2 are 3.9 and 3.7, respectively.
-
The XT-6 uses a cybrid system, which adjusts the ratio based on your speed. It's completely not compatible with the conventional system in a 4cyl Subaru. The PS pump isn't even belt driven. I hear the 4cyl XT rack is a little different as well, and does fit in place of the sedan/wagon rack.

2.2 for $750 does that sound good
TROGDOR! replied to slipspeedy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Depends on what gen 2.2 it is. At my work we have had the 90-94 for $400 and the 95+ for $700. I thought it was high at first, but we've had no trouble selling multiple engines at those prices. But yes, you can do better. Just dig a little deeper and you'll be surprised what you can find. -
trash4door? SILVER FOX II
TROGDOR! replied to MilesFox's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
That one won't draw near as much attention as the bright orange paint scheme. Put a conventional exhaust on and it'd draw even less. Cop magnetism aside, I like it! Looks sharp. Would look even better on 14's. -
That would be an '86. Being an '86 2WD, it'll have an SPFI engine instead of a carb.

93 Loyale Window problems
TROGDOR! replied to Subadude2's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Motors could be burned out/burning out. Try pulling up on the glass while you hit the switch. The motors in my Loyale were getting slow like that- they would rocket down, but took forever to roll back up.
