EJ20 Single Turbo - Can a 5spd D/R handle it?
rxleone replied to rxleone's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm interested in making my own adaptor plate, but am finding it quite difficult to find a decent plan or schematic for one...anyone have one? -
EJ20 Single Turbo - Can a 5spd D/R handle it?
rxleone replied to rxleone's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Saves you having to swap a whole heap more stuff out - the EJ trans are long then the EA no? -
EA82T is a TURBO Engine - if you know anything about swapping an EA to EJ then you should understand the problems in having a carbed turbo engine. While it is possible to set up a carbed turbocharged engine, I don't know of any major production vehicles that have ever had one. Of course, someone will likely be able to correct me on that I've never done an EJ swap, but I have played with a lot of different EA and EJ engines, and let me tell you - doing ANYTHING with an engine first time is a PITA - especially the stripping of the loom etc. There are lots of guides, but to put it into practice is a whole other story. But go for gold, good luck to ya man. I'm sure the guys on here will help out as much as they possibly can

Worse / Best / Stupidest Wrench Turning Mistake!
rxleone replied to Sonicfrog's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I HATE when you have screws and nuts/bolts left over, I always seem to when doing interior work on the wagon... Its definitely NOT good when its the engine you're working on though. Would be time for another strip down in my books EDIT: Whoops forgot to say what my worst one was...hmmm....theres been plenty When I was about 15 and still in my uber-cool boyracer stage (after owning a sweet 1977 EB2 Civic, like yours Sonicfrog - you're right, they were excellent cars - gutted I ever sold mine) I had a POS Daihatsu Charade Detomaso (little 1.6l SOHC thing - went like the clappers though). Had put the tyre back on after doing a head gasket in the thing (you could only reach the pulley from the wheel arch) and in my rush to get it back on the road and go nuts I put the tapered wheel nuts on backwards - not good to go out and be doing 150kph and then realise your wheel is wobbling like crazy. I pulled over and all the wheel nuts were literally fingertight - scary stuff. Actually, I thank god the wheel didn't come off. I would have been toast otherwise. Lets just say I check EVERYTHING now. -

Was looking at the local website for trading etc, when I came across this: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Subaru/Engines/auction-265983539.htm Imagine that bloody thing in an RX! It would pull over 500hp with the right turbo....insane!
-
FAR, FAR less reliable. There are a multitude of people around the site that will tell you that the EA82T is the worst engine Subaru ever built, and I'd agree with them. The non turbo EA82 wasn't flash either, but is a lot more reliable then the turbo EA82T. Talk to General Disorder, he knows his stuff and will set you on the right path.

EA 82T to EJ22 Swap... Can you feel thedifference?
rxleone replied to Sonicfrog's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
And here I was thinking turboing a non-turbo engine was a death sentence for it. Thanks bro, will look into it! -
Here's where my tach goes

EA 82T to EJ22 Swap... Can you feel thedifference?
rxleone replied to Sonicfrog's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Of course you'd have to use an aftermarket ECU or get the stock one chipped, no? -

Nah no way, You can replace UJs, infact they're a very common thing to have to replace, especially on Toyota 4WDs and the like. I can't believe you can't find any? Ring a driveline specialist. They'll put you right. -
EA 82T to EJ22 Swap... Can you feel thedifference?
rxleone replied to Sonicfrog's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Really? Even with its stock 9.7:1 compression? Are you talking like 3 psi here? I've seen a few stock non-turb engines with high compression had turbos slapped on, and even at low boost (5 -7 psi) they all seemed to die pretty fast. Would love to know more! -
Whoa dude, nice! I've never been a fan of the wing, think it ruins the shape (although I do understand its a pretty important stand-out part for an RX coupe ). If I were you I'd just keep it off. Good luck on the swap, EJ22T would be awesome! Just wish we got them imported over here....

Was thinking today about swapping the 3.0l six-cylinder EZ30 engine out of a late model outback into an EA82 or EA81. Is this even possible? I wonder if it would need custom firewall and radiator work, and shortening the driveshafts and pushing the entire gearbox back. Just speculating at the moment, but would make a DL sound pretty unique Has anyone ever done this, or tried to and failed? Would be pretty impressive!

Wanting Help----My New "89 Omega
rxleone replied to Azza's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Good to meet ya man, I'm in NZ too and have an 89' Omega myself, although its a DL. The raised roof is the touring edition I believe - Something mine doesn't have (although I wish it did!) About the lifters, everyone in the states uses Seafoam, but seeing as we don't have that, I like to use something called Fortron Lifter-Free that Repco sells. It seems to do the trick, though I keep putting bottles in with every oil change. Haven't found a permanent solution yet. Stud pattern is 4x140. Once again, check out Repco, they deal with some guys called Concorde who sell Speedy Wheels, who make steel rims (Desert Rat is the name i think) in 4x140, which are IIRC 14" x 7" wide. Other than that you're pretty screwed. I've searched all around for the 504 and 505 rims, and they're pretty hard to come by. Or you can just drill some 6-stud Nissan or Toyota wheels out, but be smart and keep a set of standards for warrant time, or you won't get one. And the EJ engine? Definitely. EJ22 is the most common swap, but they're pretty rare over here, and were only imported into NZ as EFI. You can swap the headers and carb off an EJ18 onto them, and AFAIK thats the only way to get a carbed EJ22 around here. Just wished they'd come out over here as a turbo model!! That's my old girl crossing a river up the Onamalutu in Marlborough. -

Goddammit I need to move to the states! EA81s are like rocking horse ************ around here! -
I've never heard or seen that happening, and me and my brother have both owned a few ea81s (mainly ea82s though ) My advice would be to swap out the 5spd ASAP. (Pretty useless I know )

Maybe we should be rewarding him for using the search bar instead of making new threads every five minutes like some other clowns on here do? These are the questions
