  1. Yep, they can be an absolute PITA to get off, especially if they've been over-tightened and been on there for a long time. Horrible things.
  2. Can anyone hear the sound of duelling banjos? Just kidding dude, that is awesome
  3. I was actually reading a thread about some sort of resonance this chamber stops, that can have a direct impact on the fuel ratio if removed. At least I think that's what it said - its 2am here and I'm tired as hell. Will look for it in the morning if someone hasn't beaten me to it.
  4. Yeah, seems like you fucked up pretty bad there ahwel thats the way things go. If I were you, I would cut your losses, pay the restocking fee, and take this as a lesson to get the right part first. Sort of the "measure twice, cut once" philosophy, saves you a lot of wasted cash and effort. Good luck PS: Just wondering, why do you need a short shifter? No offence but the EJ18 doesn't seem like the ideal performance engine... Do you just like the feel of a short shift or do you have a performance engine going in at some time?
  5. Dude, you gave me inspiration to make a nice little wallpaper for myself with that coupe. If anyone else wants it here it is Just set your background to white when you change it, and it'll come out looking all nice like this If anyone wants any pictures made I'd be more then happy to help, I love making these old Subies stand out
  6. In NZ all you can get are just the single CVs and DOJs (Inner CVs are what they're called here - noone seems to know what the hell a DOJ is ) and I've never seen a place in NZ that sells whole axles. I dunno, seems like a waste to replace it if your axle if fine, and a CV is gone. Sorta the "if it ain't broke" philosophy. It's what NZ is known for
  7. Dude, honestly, that is one of the nicest RX's I have ever seen. I'm not a massive fan of fake carbon-fiber, but whoa! Came up amazing, and thats a job you should be proud of. About the coilovers - looking freaking sweet. Love the mags too, and the color, and the whole damn car. Seriously, that's a keeper. Saving those photos onto the computer so I can drool over them every now and again. Good work!! Also, what engine are you running? Please tell me that's got a turbo EJ under that hood - PLEASE!!!
  8. Either that or he's one of those crazy old dudes who bought the car when he retired in 1984 off the lot and takes an incredible amount of pride in his car because its gotta last him till he dies We get those guys around here all the time, and its cool to see cars that tidy, even if it is only a 1300cc Corolla - takes a lot of effort to keep your car looking like that, day in day out. I'm waaay too lazy to even attempt to wax my wagon - should probably get around to sanding the scratches out and painting it first
  9. Oh. Wow. That's a bit of a problem. I'm not sure if you can re-thread them. Best bet would be to go to a machine shop (not a mechanics - no doubt they'd say you can't and try to charge you up a new block) and see what they can do. I wouldn't trust myself helicoiling a hole of importance like that - more trouble then its worth. Let us know how you get on.
  10. That thing is freaking beautiful. Almost too good to be driving
  11. Oh wow...thats one impressive case of idiot forehead for ya right there But in all seriousness, hope you're alright! Did you go get checked out or anything?
  12. I'd say a wheel bearing most likely. When you put your foot on the brakes the caliper grabs the rotor and stops holds the wheel tight (if you've got rear discs of course). Jack up the rear end, and wiggle the wheel, holding the top and bottom. If you've got play, time to do a wheel bearing. Let us know how you get on.
  13. Well, that was quite a rant there. You know what really grinds my gears? People in the 19th century. Why don't they get with the freakin program? It's called an automobile, folks. It's much faster than a horse! /family guy
  14. Have a look at this build - I know he used Sub4 heads but you might get some info there? Good luck dude.
  15. First up - Sweet find. Wish they had them for $200 like that where I come from. If you can wrangle a few grand, why not just buy a damaged STI from a place like here or maybe somewhere closer to you that actually did the RA 1993 STIs, import it, and take all the bits off it and put it on your LHD? Plenty around over here - some for cheap, some for way too much. Have a look around. Of course that means shipping costs - which I hear can go into the thousands. Might be cheaper to take a trip over, find a junkyard with one in it, and strip it of all its handy parts Heres some examples: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Cars/Subaru/wrx/auction-277962623.htm http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Cars/Subaru/wrx/auction-276890115.htm http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Cars/Subaru/Wrx/auction-277068432.htm http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Cars/Subaru/wrx/auction-277922682.htm Beautiful version of the STI - one of my favourite versions.
  16. Found this on trademe. Looks like its going pretty cheap is in Auckland though... Wish I had the money lying around to get it to Blenheim, (also wish it was 4wd!)
  17. Not all of them no. I had a Gen 1 89' Legacy that was non-turbo DOHC - they're good for 150hp if I remember correctly. Went very well until the timing belt snapped 40,000km prematurely. If you're from the states, it's likely you've never seen an EJ20, as I don't think they were imported or built in the states. Over in RHD countries like NZ and Aus the majority of Subaru's are 2.0l, and the EJ22s are a minority in a big way over here.
  18. Not sure about a 1996 Legacy, but it's bound to have been done. There's a gen 1 89' Lego down south with a EJ257 in it - pretty quick I believe. If you wiki "EJ Engine" you'll see that the EJ20T is just a backyard mechanics slogan for a turbo EJ20 - same as the EJ20TT is slang for a twin turbo EJ20. Look at Wikipedia - it'll put you right. Anyone can buy a STI - they're cheap, and easy to find (at least in my neck of the woods - I can pick up a 1996 STI for around $6 - 8k these days) but everyone's got one, and not everyone wants to be the same. Besides, the old EA82s and EA81s are light as fuck, and 250hp in one turns it into a rocket. None of these Honda boyracers pull up besides an old-rump roast wagon and expect to be absolutely blown out of the water, but it happens, and when it does, its priceless. Plus - it's fun, it's unique, it's do-able - and since when has backyard mechanics ever been about making sense?
  19. Hey bro, good to meet you From South too, not as far south as Stealth, but yeah...
  20. Pedal Actuator? So instead of using a secondary wire on the throttle body or carb it actually pushes the pedal down?
  21. Are they reliable? I used to have an 89 Legacy with CC, and it was great, but I've never seen let alone tried one out on a GL before. Do they use the same sort of system?
  22. Hey guys, I'm looking for some decent sized mud tires to chuck on the wagon once I've done the swap and lifted it. But over here in little old NZ we have really stupid laws and warrants-of-fitness, which have a bunch of stupid rules, such as, the tire shall not stick out more than 25mm or 1" from the body or flare of the car they are on. Now I reeaaaallly want to run some 27" tires, with a 6 stud wheel, but I need some that will stay around about 70mm or less from the body as I'm looking to run with 50mm rubber flares. Any idea what sort of offset would be best for this? It's a 1989 EA82 wagon, will have a 2" lift (unless I can figure out how to make a 4" lift ) Any more info needed feel free to ask
