  1. Loyale 2.7 Turbo is the name you're after
  2. Heading there tomorrow mate - I know there is one there definitely, but I need one so that's mine will have photos up tomorrow
  3. We start at 91, then go to 95 then 98.
  4. A lot like the first gen legacies then no? I will have to check it out. Thanks for your help guys.
  5. Look's like its almost equal-length - I could be mistaken though. Would it still produce the boxer rumble when coupled with a decent exhaust setup?
  6. ...which would require the running of high-octane gas no?
  7. What size EJ is this exhaust manifold from? I've never seen an EJ exhaust manifold that doesn't go directly into the cat like that, is it from a smaller displacement engine (EJ15, EJ16, etc)? It's obviously an EFI manifold. If so, would it affect top range power if I made a custom exhaust from the flange before the cat? It seems to be relatively alright. I wouldn't be asking if it wasn't so cheap - the EJ22 exhaust manifolds are $170 from our Junkyards due to the cats, and I'm not too interested in making my old manifold
  8. That is pretty epic - always wondered when someone was going to rotor an old-school Scoob. As much as I hate rotaries, I wouldn't mind seeing an old gen 1 wagon sacked out with a 20B in it
  9. TBH dude, my knowledge of EA81's is pretty limited, and I'm sure someone else will come along and help - but that is one tidy engine
  10. Like as is 9.5 to 9.6? I'm sure I could manage that might even bump the HP up one or two ponies
  11. Hmmmm, I see what you mean. Does anyone know what sort of CR I'd be looking at if I put EJ18 heads onto the EJ22 block?
  12. Well, aren't you a hero. I wasn't saying that's how it should be, I'm saying that if you buy a second hand vehicle as is where is, you should be aware of the risks that you run. You don't know who you're buying off the majority of the time, so the old saying, "better to be safe then sorry" definitely comes into play. But hey, if you want to try to destroy the credibility of this brilliant and helpful site because someone gave real-world advice, go ahead. The world is a harsh one, and I'm pretty sure if you're any older then me you'll know that the naive and ignorant get fucked over. But I'm pretty sure there is a lot of people on the USMB that would not be happy, and no amount of spirited internet-warrior-ness would help you with their response. Do TRY to use correct spelling and grammar when you do attempt to discredit the USMB though, or else you may have a very hard time convincing anyone. Cheers, John
  13. Oh sorry, I thought when he said "Salvage Impreza or Legacy" he meant actually getting a salvaged crashed one and taking the engine out of it. Disregard my previous post.
  14. Bingo! Lots easier to match something up if you have the original part with you
  15. Hmmm. You bought 30yo car - from someone thousands of miles away, with no prior look at it... Pretty big fail on your part buddy. Sorry to say it, but it's the truth. Sometimes you buy cars that are not quite what you think you're getting. Not pointing fingers at anyone, but thats the nature of buying cars person-to-person. Generally speaking, unless the seller says otherwise or you both come to an agreement, the personal sale of a car is considered "As is, where is." If you can't handle that, go to a dealer, buy a new car, and have that peace of mind that comes with new, still under warranty, vehicles. I bought an RX once - 30km on the way home the turbo blew, then the head gasket blew. Maybe the guy who bought it did something to it. Maybe he didn't. Who's fault was it? Mine for buying it. If you're not 100% commited to buying a car, walk away. I'd also count my lucky stars that he even sprung for a clutch - that was nice of him. Also, its a 30yo car - if you don't like maintenance on vehicles, why the hell would you buy a near-vintage vehicle like that?!?
  16. Honestly? "Hey, give me a clutch for a 30yo semi-obscure Japanese vehicle" You can't say they've got their heads up their asses just because they don't know about YOUR particular car. It's YOUR car. If you're at a parts store YOU obviously want to fix it, otherwise you'd be at a mechanics by now, so it's up to you to know. They're not mechanics FFS. Coming from working for one up until last year, having to learn from scratch about a whole HEAP of cars while you've got some arrogant prick on the other side of the counter is not an easy task. Ease up.
  17. It's definitely possible. Check out this vid for proof. What it does take is time, a LOT of research, lots of spare parts, or a shitload of money. But yes, you can swap a turbo EJ engine. Putting aside all of the wiring issues, you can put an STI/WRX engine in an EA82, but it does require some fabrication skills and a bit of mechanical knowledge and common sense. In the EA81's, its a little harder. Try Numbchuxs' EA to EJ Swap, stickied on the top of the forum, and the search bar. There's LOTS of good info out there.
  18. When I read the title I was like "Retrofitting Loyale suspension to a Legacy? What the hell??"
  19. Yeah, not really sure where you got that info from LeoneTurbo... I know of a local mechanic who regularly swaps MPFI SOHC EJ22's into Brumbies, with the carburetor manifold, and he has had no such problems. Also, I'm pretty sure when I stripped down my timing-belt-disaster of an engine DOHC N/A MPFI EJ20D (which manifold is very similar to the EJ22) it didn't have bowls.... Then again I was only stripping it for the alloy to sell for scrap, so I wasn't paying too much attention.
  20. Nice one - Got any pics of the inlet manifold? I think the stock carbed' ones are the best. I'll get some photos of them next time I'm at the JY.
  21. That is really depressing. What a waste. Looked like a sweet RX though - and hey, hopefully some of the parts went to other RXs. Sometimes a Subie must die so other Subies can live on
  22. Yeah, in the EJ18 - not the EJ16 as it's labeled. Should be a good little runner, and a straight-forward swap too
  23. Hey fellas, stumbled across this info for a 1991 Legacy on AUSubaru.com - thought it might be a bit of interesting reading for you carb-less Stateside folk! FSM EJ Carb Section FSM Dizzy Ignition Section Also on another note, now I've finally gotten back into a job, expect to see a carbed EJ22 showing up somewhere along the lines in my EA82 wagon - using all Subaru parts giggity giggity goo
  24. They're like any transmission - fine if you treat them well. If it's not used for wheeling, and just running around, you'll be sweet. I'd still slap a EA82 5sp D/R in there though
