  1. God this is funny! No offence to OP, but four pages of posts for a thread about a new set of wheels that just happened to be by a girl? BTW, nice wheels
  2. Gen 1 Legacies would be nice but they're heavy as hell - you'd really need to gut them good. Other than that I'd put an EJ swapped DL in.
  3. Sounds like some weird intermittent sort of Throttle Position Sensor problem to me - I'd start by looking there.
  4. Sorry, by second gen I was meaning facelift 92 - 94 model 1st gen lego.
  5. I'm fairly sure they were meaning wheels. Any Subaru 15" wheels with the 5x100 stud pattern will bolt right up. Why not stretch out for some 17's though? The late model JDM WRX/STi ones look mighty fine
  6. So I just bought this bumper for my 89' Legacy sedan.... What is it off? I've never seen one like this on a first gen GT/RS before - it kind of looks like a second gen, but I've never seen one exactly like it, and I'm pretty sure the fenders don't line up on both. But that's obviously a first gen Legacy.. Is this a standard Subaru bumper? Or is it an aftermarket piece? (It's getting painted blue before it goes on the car, don't worry )
  7. I'm a bit of a grammar nazi myself, but seriously? Well said. As for the car - I don't think you can really go wrong with OEM anything - if you have the money, that is. Some incidental things don't really matter, but if it's what Subaru puts on new cars, then it must have some kind of standard of quality. I'd roll with that.
  8. There's an EJ SPFI and an EJ carb in the Pick-A-Part in Auckland, one with a EJ push-button dual-range 5spd and the other with a full time EJ D/R box. Pretty surprised to see them at the smallest yard up here though - wonder what the bigger ones hold?
  9. Haha, what happened to EFI over carb any day? I do have an EJ carb manifold sitting around here somewhere, and there's an EJ18 carb with whole dizzy sitting at the PAP down the road. If Keltik can't hook you up, PM me, I might be able to sort something out.
  10. Hmmm... this weekend.... I pulled both fuel senders on my 89' Legacy as I had a bit of a problem with it dropping to zero around the 3/4 mark. Got a DMM on it and turned out it had a broken spot between 3/4 and 1/2 so I went to the junkyard and got another one, plugged it in and it goes sweet. Finally did four new CV boots on the front axles - turns out they're a lot more annoying to do than the EA82s. Still, got them done. Also fixed the bonnet latch - turned out the support for it was just bent enough for it to not close unless you really slammed it. Picked up a junkyard window rubber for the drivers door at the same time - my one was really warped and made it difficult for the window to wind itself up. A bit fiddly bending the tabs out and in but it's good as new now Plus, an oil change and new coolant, and a good cut-and-polish to make it really shine.
  11. You'd think there'd be more of them with grenaded gearboxes or something - isn't that what the uninitiated end up doing to Subaru's?
  12. Obviously you didn't know what you were looking for then, otherwise you'd be able to spot what was wrong with it. Goddammit I dislike people who make a general assumption about the majority of parts people on piss-all money who are trying to do good work. Guess what - There's about 10,000 vehicles on those computers. Do you expect the parts person to know every minute detail about each and every one of them? I've worked in parts for a couple years, and eventually got sick of it because of ignorant pig-headedness like you've just displayed when all you're trying to do is help find the right part. How about you jump over the other side of the counter and see what it's like trying to find parts for a fifteen year-old Japanese car with some arrogant meatsack on the other side, then come back and tell us how easy it is.
  13. Over five thousand cars.... Only eighteen Subarus.... Wait a minute.....
  14. That's pretty intense - Some people just don't understand cars/engines in the slightest.
  15. Is it just me thinking that brakes should not be shot with only eighteen thousand miles on the clock? That seems suspect. That said, could just be worn pads I guess. Good to hear you got it fixed.
  16. Anyone thought about a split side tank in the radiator? I just had pretty much the exact same problem - bubbles in the water, throwing coolant out, not overheating though - but maybe it could be forcing so much water out that there's not enough to cool it? I'd just replace the radiator. Best thing you could do to tell at the moment.
  17. No offence taken Besides, all of the pre-2000 WRX's and STI's were EJ20 - and they all haul rump roast.
  18. Head gasket issues, piston slap, rod knock too occasionally. How is a 2.5l a little engine?
  19. That thing is sexy... but is it just me or are you still running FWD? That video looks like the back wheels aren't turning.
  20. Glad to hear that you got your swap all sorted. These are some really handy tips, and I'll keep this thread in mind if I ever get around to my EJ22 swap.
  21. Yup, replaced it and took care of all the bubbles. Also found out what the rattle was - three tiny pieces of gravel making one hell of a racket inside the catalytic converter shielding. Took them out and it's good as gold.
