  1. Can we get some photos maybe? Every EJ engine from factory pulls air from the inner fender, sounds like someones messed about with yours. Even if they have, I'd just reinstall the factory airbox with the fender snorkus with an OEM or high quality filter. May not look as 'cool' or sound as good but will do a better job and eliminate the chances of FOD like getting water in your intake AND give you colder air intake.
  2. If you have an electric sender you can buy build-your-own kits that use a formula to speed up/slow down the pulses to your speedo. http://www.jaycar.co.nz/productView.asp?ID=KC5435 That's a New Zealand website, but I'm sure somewhere does one like that in the states.
  3. How did you do that? If you've just put a pod filter on the intake, you might have to rethink that. There's proof (although I don't have it on me, its around the site somewhere) that the original intake is pretty much the best you're gonna get with an EJ22, as its already a CAI. If you've put a pod filter in, you're pretty much just taking nice hot engine air in, and the added noise from the induction probably makes you think its going faster.
  4. What kind of paint is that? Looks super nice!
  5. That'd do it too haha, yeah plumb back BOVs are the way to go, circulating BOVs sound cool but do nothing for the life of your turbo. Nice buy though, keep oil in it and keep it in top shape and it should last you quite a while! How many KMs on it?
  6. Yeah dude, EJ20TTs aren't exactly the most reliable engine to start with, and a vent-to-atmosphere BOV is not something you want on there. Plus they can mess with the pressure balance between the two turbos in the crossover, at least I'm pretty sure that was the cause of my brother-in-laws EJ20TT problems before it blew up on the North Western. :-p
  7. My old Leone (DL, GL, whatever you stateside folks call it ) and my brothers hacked up auto RX, down a river in New Zealand. Miss that old girl, my 89' Legacy GX is nice, but its just not the same.... Good times!!!
  8. Kinda looks like a hearse with that canopy on, its gangster :-p Wow, just realised this is my first post in like 8 months. Crazy!! Nice to see everyones doing well!!
  9. Definitely an interesting idea. It'll take a hell of a lot of thought and design to get it in a passenger car though. Those extra-long connecting rods kind of freak me out though.
  10. If your car is a Loyale, not a Legacy, It'll have the EA82 1.8l engine, not the EJ18. The computers, wiring, and bellhousings are not compatible with the EJ22. See Numbchux's write up on the EA to EJ swap. It's fairly straightforward but the wiring is a pain.
  11. Probably got water somewhere which is shorting out the circuits. Dry weather and an air gun will help.
  12. Well if it's effectively the same engine with 400CC of extra displacement in the EJ22 its pretty likely that is has more Here's some info:
  13. What would be the point? You may as well put in a non-turbo EJ22 block and strap a turbo onto it.
  14. I'm not surprised. New Zealand is full of the twin turbo BD/BG models, and Subaru's have an absolutely horrible reputation purely because of this engine. They call them "holiday wreckers" in this part of the world because the family loads them up to go on holiday.....and they blow up. Absolutely hideous design. I hope this one works out well for you though. And the fuel economy is awful. Doesn't matter if you baby it or not, its just pure shit.
  15. Type of Wrenching: Shadetree, little bit for cash, not much What: 77' Civic, 93' Daihatsu, 87' RX, 84' Brumby/Brat, 81 EA81 wagon, 89' DL, 89' DOHC 2.0 Legacy, 89' 2.2 Legacy, 1996 EJ20 Legacy, 1994 Corolla, 91' Mitsi Lancer...list goes on How long doing it: Since I was about 14, rebuilt a Morris 1700 engine with help from my dad at 15. Loving it ever since. Other Skills: As far as wrenching goes, not a huge amount, I do pride myself on my sweet audio install and wiring work other than that, I play guitar and drink beer. That's about it.
  16. I'm skeptical, but will be interesting to see how it turns out. Keep us posted.
  17. Don't take that as a given that it's fine. The busted wheel bearings in my old DL would generally show no play whatsoever. They were shot though.
  18. Cool man, tell you're friend congrats on his new car. Shame it's a turbo though...
  19. Probably read it was UNnecessary. I'd put money on that being the problem. Subaru head gaskets go on dry, no exceptions.
  20. You were spot on - water down the spark plug holes. Cleaned em out with a rag and got all the moisture off the leads. Now runs perfect. Cheers
  21. Title pretty much says it all. Gave the legacy an engine bay steam clean, making sure I cover the electrics, coil pack, igniter, etc. Blew out the remaining water, made sure the car was running sweet, all good. Took it for a couple of drives of about 25km, then 10km, then another 10km, sweet as. Went around to my sisters to watch a movie, come out, she fired up fine, drove all good for about a kilometer, then started to act up. Kinda weird, it's fine idling, fine through first, second, and third, but if I'm coasting in 4th and put the foot down, it misfires, runs on three cylinders. I can hear it, it sounds nasty. No power either. No check engine light, just that weird symptom. If I throw it into neutral while its missing it'll settle straight back down. Just took it home and parked it, I know there will be water in something electric, and its 10pm here so I'll blow it out again thoroughly tomorrow and it should be fine. What I wanna know is what particular EFI part would cause that? Seems like a coil pack or maybe water seeping past the HT leads, but I'm not one hundred. Thought if there was water there it'd be missing continuously. By the way, its a 1989 Legacy, EJ22, 5spd manual, 244,000km. Ran sweet as a nut before this, absolutely no problem whatsoever. I'll keep ya updated.
  22. Love black wheels! Looking very sharp!
  23. Sweet, I love the colour of it. Should be a good little runner once you're done.
