  1. Yeah, I think I had 215/45R17's on my old Legacy - rubbed on the strut towers up front (IIRC, it's been a while) and I had to get the rear guards rolled as to avoid ripping off nice strips of rubber from the lip on the rear wheel wells. Still looked pretty cool though
  2. Take the hat off and listen to some freakin' rock. There ya go, sorted.
  3. That thing is sexy as hell. Please please please, post pics and info how you did this!!!!
  4. I've got a EA to EJ adaptor plate file - its a .dwg file so you'd have to have AutoCAD or the guys who are doing it will. I haven't used it before, I got it off a dude who lives in the states - seems to look right though. PM me your email if you want it.
  5. Think first gen 89 - 93 work. There's some difference between the rear wagon and sedan springs I think though - something about the coil shape I believe. Someone will chip in with a bit more definite advice.
  6. Sweet lookin' Imp you got there. Very tidy!! Maybe some JDM WRX bumpers, hood, spoiler would make it look nice - if you guys can source em over there!!!
  7. Good find - don't think I'd ever be brave enough to rebuilt an auto. Lucky I don't drive em!!
  8. Looks just like my old one.. How I miss the old girl
  9. I doubt it - That's Impreza stuff, and AFAIK it doesn't fit Legacies. Your best bet would be to find a high-spec Legacy (I don't know what trim levels you guys get - over here it'd be the B4 or GT-B trim) and see if you can swap the gear over from that.
  10. That sucks man. Sometimes life gives you a rough time. All the best.
  11. What's the story with those seatbelts? I'm in NZ and have never seen any seatbelts with adjustible mounts like that - can you get me some more photos??
  12. Has anyone thought of the Ignition fuse in the fuse box under the steering wheel??? I pulled one out by accident when changing my old stereo, forgot to put it back in and searched everything for about 6 hours until I realised. Handy thing to know about, good way to make your car a little more secure if you're leaving it somewhere for a while. Will crank, but never start.
  13. It's all good bro, half of the people on this website have never seen an early EJ20 because they didn't bring em out in the states, and definitely not twin turbo. If you get some pictures we might be able to help - I know nothing about the twin turbo's but maybe its universal across the early Subarus. Who knows.
  14. True - my 89' EJ22 Legacy doesn't have cruise control, or a sunroof, or ABS, or A/C. Less things to get in the way I figure!!!
  15. That's not true - I used to own an 89' EJ20D DOHC N/A that had a redline of 7500RPM, all the Legacy RS's had a redline of that as well. Subaru engines will happily rev as high as they're balanced for.
  16. Try a new head gasket. Sorry to be blunt, but there is NOTHING but a new gasket that will fix a blown HG permanently.
  17. My old 89' 2.2 5MT Legacy has developed a bit of a strange, yet minor problem. It starts cold no problem 99% of the time, but once it's warmed up and I, say, turn it off to go into a store and buy something, come out and fire it up, it seems to hunt for idle quite bad for about ten seconds. Idle jumps to around 1300 RPM, then down to about 450 - 500 RPM, then back up to 1100 RPM, then to 600, then 900, then usually settles itself down to a smooth, steady 750 or 800 RPM. I've had a similar problem on a DOHC EJ20 Legacy a couple of years back, after a nasty timing belt accident and a replacement engine, and I'm pretty sure it had something to do with the IAC. But I'm a little dubious about pulling it off the engine when it's not really a huge drivability issue, more just an annoyance. Is this a common sort of symptom for a carbon-clogged or failing IAC? Or am I missing something else?
  18. Well said. New does not equal better... every time you add something new, it's one more thing that can go wrong. I wish car manufacturers would start making things more simple rather than more complicated - and that's not just from a home-mechanic perspective. If they can spend millions on a +1 MPG increase, they can spend more money making it simpler. Look at Hyundai. Their new SUV (I forget the name, maybe the Santa-Fe?) has something like 63 less parts then the previous engine, yet makes more power, is more economic, and (as it seems) more reliable. The way they're going, there won't be any room left in the damn engine bay to fit more gear in.
  19. I am kinda surprised at why they are doing it - what benefit is it really going to have to the average consumer? +1 MPG isn't really going to do anything for their sales - at least not in the States I believe. No power gains....a whole heap more gizmos to go wrong....yep, Subaru is dying. For serious though, has anyone seen the new sedan WRX STi? Quite possibly the ugliest Subaru ever brought out. Subaru is losing it's quirks (Think the classic pillarless windows - they're gone) and becoming far too mainstream for my liking. Guess I'll be sticking to my good old 89' Legacy for quite some time.
  20. ...have any of you guys seen the new Subaru boxer they're bringing out?? Check this out and this. Seriously....is this new or have I been under a rock for too long?? Mods, if this is old news, you're more than welcome to delete this thread
  21. Not sure where you live, but the earlier JDM STi RA 5-speed close-ratio box is a beauty.
