  1. Ok, heres the problem: We were doing a head gasket job on a 99 legacy with the phase 2 style 2.2 engine. One of my mechanics grabbed the headgaskets for a phase 2 2.5 sohc and installed them. I didnt realize it had happened until after the engine was installed. I compared the correct gasket to the one we used and the bore on the 2.2 is less than 1/8 different. My question is," do you think it will function OK?" Thanks
  2. Yeah its either the master cylinder or the rubber flexible line. They are both easy to replace.
  3. I have two customers (2002 OBW _ 2000 Forester)that have ABS lights that won't turn off after minor wrecks. Does anyone know what might be the culprit? I saw there was a G sensor. Do they need replaced after an accident? Thanks
  4. So I have been seeing in the forum that several of you are recommending using the 2.5 turbo gasket in place of the stock subaru "upgraded" one. Does any one know the part number or what year/model to ask for at the dealer? Thanks
  5. do y'all know the part number of the 2.5 turbo gasket? is it thicker and does it mess with the compression ratio?
  6. So I"m in the process of doing a HG job on an 07 OBW 2.5 sohc. When I took the heads to the machine shop to be resurfaced they said that one was .002 thicker than the minimum thickness and one was at the min. thickness. Both heads need at least .004 taken off which would put me below the min. Does anyone know if you can get away with being .005 below the min thickness? Does anyone have a set of 07 heads? Thanks
  7. by knurl do you mean remove them and clean out the gunk? Ive never removed pistons from these engines. Do you need to split the case? Ill check the PCV valve and related hose routing.
  8. I recently did headgaskets on a customers car ( 2001 obw 2.5 sohc 98,000m) and it seems to be going thru oil pretty quickly. I did the engine a month ago and when it came in for a cv joint I checked the oil and it was barely on the end of the stick. I inspected the crosshatching/ cylinder walls while the engine was apart and they looked good and other than the oil that was seeping out the bottom of the gasket I dont think it had a previous oil consumption issue. I had a full valve job done with new valve stem seals and I am worried that the seals were installed incorrectly a or are defective. Any thoughts?
  9. Thats what I thought...do you know if a 02 impreza trans is the same final drive? the impreza code is 7z ty754vc2ba. dont have the forester here to see its code
  10. Hey has anyone seen/fixed the drive gear for the vehicle speed sensor on a manual transmission? The car is a 01 forester. I was getting a vehicle speed sensor code and there was no spedo. replaced the speed sensor... still no spedo. swapped in a couple used ones...same result. Then I noticed that every time the drive gear was in the same position. stuck a screwdriver in it and it turns. I checked a couple transmissions that i have on the floor and the gear won't spin. Seems like a stripped gear to me. thanks
  11. Hey does any one know if the 99 OBW limited manual and the 02 impreza outback manual trannys have the same rear diff/gear ratio? I can get the trans numbers tomorrow.
  12. wait... I think the 99 and 95 have different housings... the 99 has the spin on filter. I think they changed the tail pieces when the transmission changed.
  13. Get a new gasket. The old one usually doesn't survive. I think the part number is on the site somewhere
  14. Hello, I am doing an emergency 2.2 swap in a friends outback. The only 2.2s i have are single port. Does anyone have a single port y-pipe? I can paypal $ asap. Thanks, Craig
  15. Ok. I just did an emergency outback build for my friend whos car was totaled when someone t-boned him...ruptured spleen..life flight...couple days in hospital. So the car I built him was a basket case project 96 OBW that I bought in the spring from someone who didn't finish their winter project. I replaced the engine with a 96-98 2.2 that was in the trunk when I bought the car. I resealed the engine and did timing belt, water pump, idlers etc. These are the problems: -car has a what seems to be a dead miss in cyl 3 (CEL Flashing and lots o shaking) -major torqubind To correct the miss is replaced #3 wire with new looking used ones ( did this 2x), swapped out the coil pack, swapped out plug (did this 2x) and swapped out injector. I did a compression test on #1 and #3( both 175), tested for pulse at #1&3 injector plugs( both were pulsing the same). sprayed starting fluid around intake to look for vacuum leak. ( no change in idle) Any thoughts/things I'm missing? The torque bind stopped when I put in the FWD fuse...I cant remember what it means when the fuse cures the issue.
  16. I use Mitzumo auto on ebay. The lady whom I deal with is Helen. The kit has GMB pump, nsk pulleys, and mitsuboshi (OEM). The Mitsuboshi belts are $10 extra.
  17. Hey I am building my first 2.0 turbo ( 2003 wrx) does anyone know if the headbolts have to be replaced?
  18. I have seen these codes. The cam position sensor code is usually due to a timing belt being one tooth off at the crank.... You have to take off the pulley to varify..... seen this two times. hope this helps. Does the car run good for 10-20 min then acting funny?
  19. have the flex joint cut out and the flange between the muffler and straight pipe.. your exhaust will last along time. I have seen several with 200,+++ miles with the original pipes etc.
  20. Have you priced one? Dealer only from what I remember? If the tank is that rusty then the rear brake lines are not far behind....are both of your wheelwells rusted out? If its this rusty then most of the bolts on the car are frozen so when you go to do routine things you are going to have a lot of time in freeing up , drilling out and rethreading bolts etc.... They use a lot of salt here in ohio and I have sent several cars to the crusher with parts on them that I couldn't get off due to the rust.....all had leaky tanks.
