  1. while you still have a nug of bolt hanging out, try heat + vise grips method. Or welding a nut to what's left. If you shear that off, then try the easy-out method. Note: I have had almost no luck with easy-outs, and i will try pretty much any other method before i resort to using them.
  2. Time to harrass Centerforce until they make EA-82 pressure plates?
  3. 99obw is exactly right. On the top rear of the engine is a little black cover. Wehn removed, it exposes the flexplate. using a screwdriver or whatever (or a wrench on the front of the engine) turn the engine slowly until you see a bolt. There are 3 (or 4, but I think three). Remove these, and the torque converter will separate from the flexplate. Basically, there are 4 bolts holding the engine together, and two front engine mounts. Also, there are two dowel pins between the engine and transmission mating surfaces. You need to locate these, there is one on either side of the car. They align the engine and transmission together. They often corrode, so you need to get a hammer and punch and try to loosen them up. It isn't necessary to remove them, you just want to disturb them some so they will let loose their grasp. When you reinstall the engine, you simply tap them back in place.
  4. I mean, a standard replacement xt6 clutch. The title has been transferred, and I have plates. Now it's legal. Yay!
  5. Meeky Moose just told me that an XT6 clutch will work on my RX, so that's cool. Getting the title transferred in a couple hours. Sweet!
  6. ...that Centerforce makes clutches for old soobs? Time for a pressure plate! http://www.performanceintl.com/shop/model.cgi?comp=cf_imp&make=SUBARU
  7. I plan on driving the hell out of it. And adding more power. And something about the six star club...
  8. If you wanna milk it for a while, drive slower. Rapid acceleration will surely make it slip.
  9. The 3AT automatic, the only one available, isn't very good. It robs a lot of power, and isn't particularly reliable. A 5spd D/R is probably your best choice.
  10. Yeah, no s---. How did that happen?
  11. I bought Meeky Moose's RX. He lives about 80 miles from me, and it ran flawlessly the whole way. Might I add, not only is this my first subaru, it's my first turbo car. meh, it's 1am, don't feel like adding more. Eric
  12. Alcohol works wonders. For the car. Reduces emissions. Cheap fix.
  13. Riding the clutch, improper clutch adjustment, or just holding down the clutch pedal for a long time can aggravate thrust bearing wear.
  14. Theoretically, you could make a key out of copper, stick it where it's supposed to be, and then mig weld up all of the excessively worn areas. The weld won't stick to the copper. You should be able to pull the copper key out, and then finish everything up with a metal file. Similar thing happened to my mom's legacy wagon. It took a chip out of the crank, but didn't beat it up excessively. I cleaned everything that touched the crank, then assembled it with sleeve-retaining loctite (dark green-609?). I let it set up for 24 hours. The parents then went on a 1000 mile road trip with no problems.
  15. Plug insulators will crack from detonation, or if a small amount of coolant is leaking into the cylinder.
  16. She's not hurt, just hurtin'. Last word was that it was a fullsize truck, the other driver thinks he fell asleep. He never touched the brakes. The rear bumper is touching the back seat. The diff might be ok. The car was still running. Even today. Damn, that thing is tough. We're gonna see what the buyback price is, for sh-ts and giggles.
  17. My parents had came by my house because my Dad is gonna buy my Harley. We load it onto the back of my S-10 and he drives it home, with my Mom following in their 95 Legacy. Dad calls me a little while ago. "Yeah, the ride home didn't go very smoothly" he said. I was thinking the S-10 had blown up, because it's ready to. But no, they weren't a mile from the house. Mom was starting to turn right when she gets plowed into by a pickup. Mom has neck pain and headache. Subaru is demolished. Dad is freaked out. And I'm pissed off! %&$#!!! My Mom is 63, she doesn't need any injuries at this point in her life! And on a smaller scale, I loved that car. You could flog it so bad, and it begged for more. And I just resealed the entire front of the engine, changed the timing belt, fixed a loose harmonic balancer issue, and charged the damned A/C. My experiences with that car is the only reason I found this board, and the only reason i decided to put an EJ22 in a VW. OK, rant off. On the plus side, there is one almost exactly like theirs, sitting across the street for sale. Maybe when the dust settles, I'll tell them about it. So, should I buy this car back from insurance and offer the parts to you all for rock-bottom prices? It was flawless a couple hours ago.
  18. Thanks, Buddy. Snot-laced Dr. Pepper in keyboard. Anywhoo, I've been to Chesterfield Auto Parts recently, and they had 6-7 nearly unmolested EA-82 cars there. 1-2 EA-81 cars. No turbo (this time, but they show up). 2-3 leganuses. Volvo intercoolers. Other crap. Cheap. Is there anything that anyone is particularly interested in? How about tires that don't suck? Also, if things work out, I might have Meeky Moose's RX by the weekend. Of course, that is a good enough excuse for a road trip. Might even have to drag the g/f along.
