autozone is my new toys r us...
I went to the local AZ to get struts and strut bearings, a wheel bolt, and bumpstops for my girlfriend's VW. They didn't have a single part in stock. Not even the lug bolt! But they have Redline motor oil, go figure. Also, EA82t block to header gaskets, header to turbo gaskets, and downpipe to turbo gaskets weren't only not in stock, but weren't available at all. I hate when i HAVE to go to the dealer.

Off-Road Epic (long)
So, back in the day, Josh, Chuck and I had left school to go home. I was driving Josh's brother's 2wd Justy. We had the tape deck blaring, and the windows down. We were flying down a twisty, narrow road in the center of Caroline County, VA. Up ahead were some train tracks. Not slowing down one bit, I shot across them. Halfway across the tracks, I see a train in the distance. "Hmm, there's a train coming", I said. Chuck said, "No there isn't, I didn't see one." A small arguement begins (why we were arguing about a train, I don't know). "Prove it", said Chuck. So I threw the car in reverse. About halfway back to the tracks, the lights come on. And for some stupid reason, I thought "I can make it back across". Mashing the gas pedal, I raced backwards. The arms were starting to come down at this point. There was no point in stopping now. The grade of the road was funny. You could fly across the track in one direction with no drama, yet a Justy at near-redline in reverse doesn't respond so well while going the other way. I don't think we touched the tracks at all, because we were way in the air, nearly hitting the descending arms, with big rump roast train about 200 ft. away. Well, we didn't hit anything, except the ground. The impact confused me, and I steered in the wrong direction. Basically, we landed, spun a complete 180, and backed down the ravine right next to the tracks. Josh was mildly pissed (he was screaming), and he kicked me out of the driver's seat. Chuck and I were pushing, Josh was holding it to the floor, one tire still on pavement and smoke was pouring off of it. We got it out. Josh said i couldn't drive it anymore...that day. Months later, his brother reclaimed it, and prompty got t-boned by a dumptruck. End of Justy.

2001 Outback Burning Odor...
Nug replied to uncle_dave's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAnother vote for the doj/cv/axle seal. However, it could easily be any of the above mentioned engine seals/gaskets.

Overheating in '95 Legacy
Nug replied to sunflow99's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThese are real finicky about air in the system. The genuine subaru thermostat has a 'jiggler' on it which will allow air to escape, while the aftermarket ones do not.

CV Joint replacement
Nug replied to ststephen's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXBreak the nut loose before you put the car on jackstands, so you don't have the whole thing come crashing down on you. (If you can get a socket on the axle nut with the wheel still on, that is)

what's smokin'?
Nug replied to eiremed's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXDOJ: Double (I think) offset joint. Basically, in a nutshell, it's a CV joint, designed slightly differently, but doing the same thing. The old-school guys can answer this more definitively, because they are always breaking them The boot tears, splattering the cat with foul-smelling grease, which results in foul smelling fumes. Replace boot, end of dilemma.

RX performance product on ebay
Looks like an Atari paddle controller.

Both terms mean the same thing.

Intake
Nug replied to Skanky's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI'm chiming in... Valves won't bend because a cylinder is full of water. I could see a valve warping because of thermal shock from water hitting it, especially exhaust valves.

How unsafe is it for a Brat to tow another Brat?
I towed an Armored Personnel Carrier with a HMMWV. 10000 lb tower, 40000 lb towee. Wide open, low range, 4wd. Top speed 10mph. THAT will push you around a corner!

My girlfriend is impressed with the RX
She's been driving the RX for a few days while I work on/wait on parts for her VW cabriolet. She likes the way it shifts (sloppy, like her VW), she likes the turbo noise, she's comfortable in it. And yesterday, there was all this flash flooding in downtown Richmond. It took her an hour and a half to go 6-7 miles home. And it involved driving through water halfway up the door. The RX puttered through it no problem. She had only one issue. She was driving down this very flooded street with a bunch of other commuters when this "SUV a**hole" shot by her on the left. She had her window down an inch for ventilation. The resulting tidal wave soaked her. But other than that, she loves the car. I have to be careful that she doesn't grap on it.

Any East Coast Members going to be at the WCSS?
You know, if I had read a single WCSS thread earlier than when I did (last week), I might have planned on coming out. At this point, it looks completely unrealistic.

help 90 legacy wagon overheating
Nug replied to subaru5555's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXCoolant flow in the EJ22 is weird. Any air pockets in the engine can stop coolant flow. Are you using a genuine subaru thermostat? The aftermarket ones I have seen do not have the little jiggle valve to let air pass through. I used an aftermarket thermostat in my subaru powered bug. I drilled a 1/4" hole in it to make sure air could pass through.

Justy will NOT move????
Maybe it popped an outer cv joint. The axles will turn, but it still won't move. More importantly, why do women think their questions are stupid???
