  1. I'm thinking the only way this is possible is if a rag or something was left in the intake or exhaust. Did whatever it was end up in the turbo? I'm thinking a rag got wedged in the exhaust side of the turbo.
  2. I second the notion that something was left in the intake.
  3. Does anyone have a ferrari enzo engine for sale? i want to put it in my RX.
  4. There is a thread either in off topic or old gen discussing the "shifting inserts" coming out with the gear oil. I searched and couldn't find it.
  5. Hey, you're the guy that went though the puddle! :famous: Listen up. I have the same engine in the back of a VW beetle. There is no cover on the engine. It gets rained on all the time. Water leaks past the spark plug boots and down near the plugs. This, of course, shorts them out. You went though a big puddle. It is entirely possible that water splashed on the engine, and worked it's way into some vital electrical components. Pull the spark plug wires out and see of the ends are wet. If they are, you need to dry them completely. Like with a hair dryer set on kill. Also, you need to make sure there is no water in the connectors for the ignitor, ignition coil, and it wouldn't hurt to check out the crank and camshaft position sensors, also.
  6. No power and super hot cat? Does it shake really bad under load? You have either a dead plug wire or wires, an ignition coil on it's way out, or an ignitior on it's way out.The cat is super hot because the misfiring cylinders are putting raw, unburned fuel into the cat, where it is being burned. Junkyard parts are your friend. if you don't have time for that, I have one of each "in stock". They are used. Make me an offer.
  7. This is the first thing i thought of when I saw the picture. What happens when this spring comes out? Hopefully nothing. But they do hold the "shifting insert" into place. If the "shifting inserts" fall out, then there will be one or two gears that won't stay in gear. Also possible crunchy shifting. There is no way your transmission will lock up at 80mph. I take that back. If a "shifting insert" falls out and jams between two gears, things can get interesting. It will probably break teeth off of gears. In my experience, when a transmission falls apart internally, the parts ususally make it to the bottom and stay there, without any drama.
  8. Look at my profile picture. imagine big-rump roast lambchops instead of a full beard.
  9. Which part were you curious about? It was written around 2am, and I was incoherent.
  10. You could try a degreaser like Purple Power, used full strength. Its smell will probably vanish quicker than the kerosene smell of engine-brite.
  11. I made it from Frederick, Md, back to Richmond, VA in under two hours. At no point did I exceed 100mph. Damn bad connections. First, there was intermittent spark. There was always power at the coil, but seemingly no signal from the disty. Then intermittent power to the fuel pump. Then a couple other things. Finally, I was thinking there couldn't be power getting to the ecu at times. I went to probe a fuse with the multimeter, touched a fuse, and heard the fuel pump come on. Turned the key and it fired. There is definately something with the engine. When you pull plug wires, there are dramatic RPM drops until you get to #3. Then, not so much. The engine rocks at idle. Something is rattling, too. It's not lifter tap, either. This car is also doing the magical "oil pressure gauge trying to go the wrong way" maneuver. It's got pressure, but the gauge is off the chart going in the wrong direction. There was a recent thread on this. The alternator seems to be trying too hard, and it gets pretty warm to the touch. The rearward fusible link in the little black box was visibly smoking after a period with the headlights on. Could this possibly be a function of the alt. trying to charge a low-on-charge battery and run high and low beams at once? Maybe the problem is in the switch and it's also shorting out/drawing a lot of power? Hmm... Well, I'm glad it's running. I think I freaked your Mom out when she first saw me. She had that "Who the hell are you?!" look on her face. I caught a part of that "he could be a psycho" conversation. I thought it was funny.
  12. Mmm, yep, I'm still coming. Pm me some directions. I'm in Richmond VA.
  13. Find a photo. Right click. Scroll down to "Properties" and click. Highlight the address, and copy it. Then click on the little yellow square right here^ with the little mountain. Paste address. Or you could use IMG tags. Get the address of the pic, as shown above, and add behind it, no spaces. The above methods works on just about anything on the internet. If you have things saved to your hard drive, you need to have them hosted. Try www.villagephotos.com.
  14. I'm up to my neck in junk at work, taking Friday off will only make it worse. So unless i'm crashing at your place friday night, then I'm coming Saturday. If, you know, something else really important comes up (I'm not backing out, I'm just saying that I'm in demand ), I might not be able to come. But for now, yeah, I'll come up. What kinda tools you got? Got a voltmeter? FSM's? Beer? This car caught on fire, and was rewired. This is gonna be fun.
  15. Honing the entire cylinder isn't necessary. The rings don't contact the cylinder from top to bottom. If you hone, the cylinder walls need to be absolutely spotless before you slam pistons back in there. White glove clean. Take your time and do it right.
  16. Bump. No plans for the weekend yet. There is the little problem of this hurricane-looking-thing heading straight for us, though.
  17. I think he's in Ft. Wayne, with Zanny Dook. This whole month isn't good. I have to put a roof on my house.
  18. You still haven't got it running? That sucks. I don't know what I'm doing this weekend. If it looks clear, then I may ride up. If I do come up, i'll bring my rx, so we can compare the two.
  19. The carb typically comes with an adapter, especially when bought in the $350 kit form. The adapter itself does show up occasionally. The 32/36 weber is a progressive carb, with interchangeable main jets, pilot tubes, and other stuff. they work well on a myriad of smaller engines, including Toyotas, Subarus and Volkswagens. They will feed AMC 258 straight sixes very well, also.
  20. I've got some 2 5/8 autometer gauges (oil press, coolant temp, voltage) with electrical senders for sale. Brand new, unused, open boxes. Paid around $250ish for them. Make me an offer. I guess you would like pics. Hmm, it might take a couple days.
  21. I had two alternators on my Jaguar. The stock one died, and it was too much of a pain to replace, so i took the smog pump off and put a delco in it's place.
  22. I wanna take my bug to the VW place and ask them to replace the water pump.
