Settled with the insurance Co.

how much was the scrap buyback on the go banana? buy it for the engine, you'll want it later. -
Whoh! this forum is about to turn into a real combat zone and were gona really need thos bullet-proof jackets. Im hearing beating on in-car entertainment, pride in your ride, and Civics, none of which I think should be dissed. Now, I personally dont approve of the ostentatious doo-dading of good cars. I think that the air dams and spoilers and sh*t-can exhausts degrade from the origional car. They are put there merely to draw attention to the normally attention starved ricer. Many ricers stop at the external appearances and the passenger compartment and forget about whats under the hood. This is where the problems start with the mostly mechanical minded people on this board. We can't see why money would be wasted on appearances when more actual preformance parts could be put on. I'm putting my effort into the interior of the car before the engine, but thats because I can do the interior for cheap and I've collected most of the parts off of junk piles or built them myself. Other parts were priced right and seemed useful, like the fridge and inverter. I'm waiting on the engine swap (ej22) because its new territory and I want to make sure its going to go as seamlessly as possibly when I do it. I want cool things like a PS2 in my car because they will be fun on long drives for the passengers. I want my car to be a good place to be, not just transport. And all the "looks like a civic" remarks. How many of you have actually put a civic through its paces? I've driven my sisters 93 Si hatch, one of the prime targets for ricers. Hers is completely stock, really nice, and fast. That car hold flat in the corners and accelerates real fast. She left it at my house and I took it out for a nite drive and pushed that thing. It can do 90 in 4th, which I know neither of my cars can, and thats from a measly 1.6 liter. They're good cars to start with, they just have a bad name because of what the ricers do to them. Now standing down from my soapbox.

I'm pissed at subaru of milford, cause their sucky salesman blew a years worth of talking about subarus and convincing my employer to buy one. I wanted to convince him to get a forester, his wife is already convinced. He is a real muscle car lover, and I was trying to convince him that cars were still made that could match those beasts preformance. The salesman wouldn't let us "joyride" (his words) in the STI, had no enthusiasm, didn't know the history of subarus "just this year, subaru has come out with turbos in cars other than the WRX" BS. The legacy of the early 90's was available with a turbo. I knew more about the cars the guy was selling the he did. I had spent ages going over all the features and techy stuff on the net beforehand. He rode with us in the forester and the OBW, so we couldn't have any fun either. Mofo wouldn't letus drive the STI. Ohhhhh, I was steaming. So, now me and Joe (my employer) are going down to North End Subaru and were going to pretend Joe's having a midlife crisis and needs a flashy car. Were going to keep the dealer out of the car, and as soon as were out of earshot, I'm gonna prove to joe that its as good a challenger.

1988 Chaser hatchback stalls out

I saw a 1970's subaru muscle wagon in farson WY. Don't know if it was for sale. It was tan and sitting next to a red 3-door. They looked unwanted, so if anyone is in the area, they might want to check it out. it was right near the intersection in the downtown.

Sorry, I should proofread my posts more. I haven't been near a computer for a month, so my typing skills are sketchy right now. But yes, turbp's are a big step up from average, run o' the mill turbo's. They also cost much more, which automatically makes them much better.

Why couldn't a turbo for a 900 cc engine be used on each header pipe before the y to make the piping flow better and improve turbo response? you could pipe the pressure pipes together before the TB and have a nice setup.

wow, the rx is fast stock

Now, whats all this honda bashing about? I think the rices out hondas are *** rump roast POS's (apologies to anybody offended by homophobic terminology), but hondas are not bad cars. I took my sister's 93 civic si hatch out at 3 in the morning for some fun (she left it at my house for some work, bad idea!) That car hauls rump roast. It handles nice, and acelerates wicked. I was shifting at about 6k, and that thing was getting over a buck on the backroads real easy. Its a rush to drive that car. I get pissed at random honda bashing. I think they are great cars. Pity they aren't 4wd. -
I'm considering the same swap. The flywheel neds modification, I think, and I was considering mounting the EJ22 computer in a waterproof box in the engine compartment. I could prewire everything, have the appropriate leads for the dash left out, snatch the EA out, pop the EJ in and hook up quick. Maximum preparation means minimum downtime equals maximum fun. I'm stripping a GL, so I'm going to get everything perfect withe the GL's drivetrain parts before I touch the loyale. The EJ would be coming out of an auto 2wd 92 legacy. I have a milling machine and lathe, so making adapters for the engine mounts and bellhousing should be easy.

sad day for nutt7...(more damage info)
WoodsWagon replied to nutt7's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
looks like the frame rails bent. Damn. That sucks real bad. did the radiator pop or did you drive it home? Looks driveable to me. if the alignment didn't get tweaked, wich it looks like it did, then just throw some plow lights on the front, take the hood off, and drive it. -
Make sure to disconnect the electric fan wires just before fording. If it has a mechanical fan, remove it temporarily (Its like 4 small bolts). The fans will flex iff they hit the watter spinning, and can hit the radiator. Don't go deeper than the opening into the airbox. Measure the hight of the opening into the airbox, subtract 2 inches, and mark a stick with the height. Before fording the stream, stick the stick in the brook and check depth. If you hit the water fast enough, would you skip across like a stone?

How many EA82 3-doors came with sunroofs? I just saw one today, not an RX, and being driven harsh by a 20 something guy. It had the classic exhaust leak sound, in full form as he plowed past the stackwagon I was riding on. The sunroof looked nice, and I wondered for how long it was offered and where.

Liabilities? what liabilities? Even when there isn't snow, AWD can be handy, you just need to do more spirited driving to take advantage of it. i bet there's mus down south, and AWD can pull you out of that parking spot that looked good before it rained. BTW, how many people got a PM about the why should I buy a subaru? I consider mass PMings an abuse of the system. If you have a question to ask, post it in the appropriate forum, dont ask 100 people the same question. If we're interested, we'll look and answer. I believe that "987" means to kill somebody (If I'm wrong, somebody please correct me) So, does that mean you want to kill subarus?

New system...and an issue on common grounding
WoodsWagon replied to WJM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm running a three ground system. I spliced one of the 2 blue wires in the passenger side connector under the kickpanel, and ran an extra wire to the radio. I coudn't find a convienient place to rewire the drivers side rear ground, so I left it with only one groud hooked up to the radio. It works great. It only starts to crap out over 3/4 volume, but thats loud enough for me. Just found out that I have lost my high range hearing from the doctor, so I have to take it easy. -
87 GL Wagon Radio/Speaker Wiring
WoodsWagon replied to swf's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
under the kickpanel on the pass side, there is a pinky connector (2pin) that has 2 blue wires going in to one pin and only one on the other end of the pin. I bet this connector popped. -
Idea for a Subie Support Network
WoodsWagon replied to [HTi]Johnson's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
when i read "subaru suport group" i thought it migt be an AA group for people coming to terms with their subaru addiction. Sounds like a devent Idea, but how to protect the phone numbers from creepy stalking lurkers? -

Good Work! -
To drift my legacy (on dirt), I just let up on the gas at the start of the turn, then punch it. Letting off shifts the weight to the front wheels, letting the rear spin when i punch it. I've gotten the car close to broadside many times Only thing i have to watch for is trees. They always seem to pop up at the wrong time. I haven't perfected the exit yet, I still fishtail for a bit. main thing is to not let off on the gas at exit. bad times. I only missed a 20 in diameter pine tree by about 3 in. I was sh*ttin bricks.
