  1. FSM says re-TQ...hince why I originally purchased the OE socket that allows you to reach the headbolt w/out taking the cam case off....but in all cases...I've gone over 20,000 miles on each engine before something else besides headgasket failure (only one exception, and that was with non-OE HGs)....so....to re-TQ or not? thats up to you. I've always gone to ~70 ft-lbs on the heads instead of the OE specs to ~45 or so. *shrug*
  2. With ARPs...we cant go over 85 ft-lbs of TQ.....even in the instructions, they only recommend a max of 65. I've broke several of their studs going to 95 on EVOs. I've lost faith in the ARPs....ESPECIALLY since said 616 AWHP STi BLEW a headgasket with the ARPs...none of them held their TQ. When I dissasembled the engine, none of the ARPs were of the same TQ...some were loose, some were tight...some where in themiddle of that. I installed the STOCK SUBARU OE bolts back in, using the FACTORY TQ procedure, +90* additional, and its holding perfectly fine....plus we made more power. The Cometics would be EXTREME overkill on NA engines in stock form... which would be PERFECT for me since I want to build an NA EA82 and ER27.... I can buy the OE 11044AA013's (EA82 HGs) for ~$25 each all day long....so, it doesnt bother me all that muich to buy them, but to contenually pull engines and replace the HGs...it gets old fast....I'd rather buy a set of MML and have them last until something actually breaks...
  3. So i was reading about coppers again...lots of places say "YES!" alot say "NO!".....so....ummm...I just dont know. Also, this page was an interesting read: http://yarchive.net/car/turbo_head_gasket.html Honestly...I dont think I'll turn to coppers again...they leak, require re-TQ...and...they leak. Granted that they are reusuable...but, they leak.....and leak and leak. Oh, and you've gotta re-TQ then. The stockers, I dont have to re-TQ and hold up well as long as you dont run it lean for a long time (Basically, at all) and take care of the engine. BUT...i have a feeling that with 18+ psi....they might not hold. So...we look to the newer SUBARU headgaskets...those multi layer metal ones (MML)...they dont blow. (Dont even start on the phase 1 EJ25s! The origional ones had the same gasket as the EA82s...that dumb composit stuff) Cometic makes them....but, not for the EA82 or ER27....yet... The STOCK MML's are supporting 600 and 700+ wheel hp on the EJ257 blocks all around the world....no problems. Soooooooooooo..................looks like that might be our solution for when some of us eventually and actually start making more than 250 hp at the wheels with the EA82....and eventually the ER27. BUT...I've talked to Cometic with mixed results. One guy said I ahve to buy 6000 gaskets before they even remotely consider making them. Another guy laughed his azz off and basically hung up on me. Yet again, I was told a min order of 25 sets and pricing was somewhere around $90 for a SET.....that and I know someone else on here has called and got the 25 sets answer. Soooooo........do we seriously have enough interest to purchase 25 sets of Cometics? Or are there still unexplored headgasket tricks out there so that we can make them hold 250+ whp? I dont think we will have ARPs at a reasonable price anytime soon, plus I dont think thats the answer.
  4. Most interesting...will sound more like a 'subaru' then the TWE header... that turbo looks pretty sizey and rather high up....what is it? Looks like a garret...
  5. the only difference is that I had to pull the back of the fender out a HAIR to match the door....otherwise, they are all the same... 85~86 dont have holes for the trim or air dam. 87+ have holes for the trim...and other fenders for air dam. 87+ trim snaps on as well as double sided tape.
  6. Weird....you must be a 'bad driver' then... :-p I am REALLY hard on the current RX transmission....its original from what i can tell with 191k miles on it.
  7. Rally teams put 450 to them..... I've not broken mine yet....over 100 hard launches on race tires on hot dry pavement....*shrug*
  8. USDM EJ257 STi drivetrain in an EA82 (A10/A11) car would be absolute insanity.
  9. Have the VIN checked with a local SUBARU dealer, and if the recall was performed, they will tell you....if not, they will need to perform the recall. The recall does not expire. I've had several justys come in for the exhaust system recall...
  10. I dont count? At the wheels.... Not as much as the guy in Auz...but still.....good. Thats about 240hp/320tq at the crank.
  11. Yeah.... Fits ANY impreza from 1992 to 2001, and any legacy from 1995 to 1999. These plates can also be used on any 1989~1994, 2000+ Legacy, and any Impreza 2002+...including all Foresters and Bajas.
  12. The bearing is only on the plate where it is needed. Thats POSITIVE caster...not negative. Negative would be pushing the strut forward. Negative caster is bad. Of course I do. It measures ~20" wide, ~14" tall and 1/2" thick.
  13. So? Its the spring/dampening rates that makes the ride hard. These make it more PRECISE.
  14. Oh cool...didnt know anyone from here or nasioc really looked at the real results.....
  15. Yes, you too can install camber/caster plates into your A10/A11 chassis Leone/Loyale/DL/GL/GL-10/RX/XT/XT6! These particular plates are either ex-JIC of Tein coilover plates....application is either GCx, GMx, GHx Imprezas, or any Gen 2 Legacy. Modifications nessisary: You will need to wide'n each bolt hole for the plate/strut top approx 2MM each. Once that is done, any EJ plate/strut top will fit perfectly, even your previous plate/strut top. After that...you will need to fit the plate to make sure you widened the holes correctly/enough. Once that is done...affix the plate to your strut properly. Different plates require different hardware. For example...my previous plates were the old MRT plates with poly bushing. They were a DIRECT bolt on type intended for use with stock style springs on any Legacy/Impreza...so it was a direct swap, nothing special. These plates require extra hardware that normally come with them when purchased, but they didnt...so, a spacer, shanked lug nut, some wideneding of the coilover spring top, and it was perfect. Done! Pics ofcourse.... New configuration:
  16. Sounds like its broken to me....aka 4th is broke and the low range shaft is broke.
  17. I was thinking about this the other day...specifically a spacer for the flywheel. I think I'll be getting my hands on an ACT 14 lb flywheel for an EJ engine....i'd like to see if I can use it on the EA82 somehow. the EA82/XT6 clutches are not weak...you just have ot search and find the right aftermarket one....I have a clutch that was realitively inexpensive and it holds 240hp/320tq at the crank. Skip makes lightend flywheels...you cannot take off too much before the structual integrity of the FW is compromised. ~18lbs is as light as you can get it.
  18. I'll be on 2 year old Khumo Victoracer V700's in 225/50/15 for the VERY start of the season, basically jsut for testing purposes to make sure the fenders are cut/rolled/flared for no rub...and when those chord....some brand new V710's will be on the car. I should have that same set, most likely a new set, by the time Nationals come around. I had the Ecsta 700's....they are good tires. V710's are faster....Victoracers last longer....but the Ecstas grip better than the Victoracers. Hooisers are a waste of time and money...they dont last nowhere near as long as any of those, and the grip levels of the V710's are higher. The tires will be on the Superlite 15x8's comming from Australia.
  19. 78~82 Sciroccos and Rabbits.....Geoff Zimmer runs locally with CCR and Atlanta, so I will have a good idea of how fast I need to be going. IIRC he was about 2 seconds off the lead FSP car, a 78 Scirocco... those cars have FWD, small engines, ~120 to 130 HP to the wheels, and according to sources, the Suber Rabbit (Zimmer's car) weighs ~1500 lbs. I can get the RX down to ~2300 legally at best. (seats, take the rest of the dnyomat out...empty all the reserviors, this and that here and there...run fuel at near starving level aloing with UD/BD the CARB'd gas tanks with the baffles that prevent fuel starving....) I will have ~240hp/280 tq to the wheels, 3 diffs to keep the power to the ground, as much if not more mechnical grip, hopefully more tire grip....hopefully that will be able to make up for the 900lb difference with the car. There *IS* a reason the Impreza 2.5 RS is in DSP...and I've been able to hang with DSP RSs...DSP and CSP were the only classes faster than FSP at Nationals.
  20. Sometime in Sept of 2006...within 2 weeks of Sept 15th + or -.... What have you read elsewhere? I'm not aware of anything published elsewhere other than what I have posted here and on NASIOC. Its an IHI....so I imagine the pricing to be similar...but...Jerry and I have known each other for a while.... Thanks guys....I know I and the RX will be giving our 100+% out there and all year up to nats.
  21. boost control is going to be unlimited for next year basically...but that still does not allow mods to the turbo its self...so, no. Plus, the WGA is already opened to the MAX and its still creeping. I'm not going to do anything remotely questionable to the car...as it WILL be out at Nationals for 2006, and I am going to do everything possible to fight for that big trophy in FSP.
  22. ...BOOST CREEP....and NOT for the win either. VF7= WAY too small... cold air=more dense. dense air+turbo=more air in AND out. more air out+TEENY TINY turbo=more air in That means boost creep.....uncontrollable boost creep. Like, anything above 4500~4700 RPM@WOT and its creeping. Even in 2nd gear low range. So....anything I do to stop it (bigger turbo, port and polish) is illegal for SCCA Solo2 Street Prepared rules. Oh well, at ambiant temps above 40 deg F...it doesnt do it. So, no worries with autox during the season. However...I do have a TD04L-13G and a Stromung downpipe sitting around. Its time to install that.....during the offseason and while the stocker is sent do boostplanet.com for a rebuild....
  23. that denotes some kind of warm-closed loop electrical error.
