Carb Block VS. Turbo Block (EA82T Rebuild)
WJM replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Cranks are all the same. Rods are all the same. Blocks differ with the rear crank case vent, knock sensor port is present on ALL EA82 blocks. Pistons are ALL the same between SPFI, MPFI, and CARB. PERIOD. Turbo pistons make the compression difference. I get 37 MPG on the hwy with my 9.5:1 block. 26~32 around town. TWE header TWE VF7 Downpipe Stock VF7 STOCK MPFI engine systems, controls...etc.... Air-Water IC Intake -
swapped from side to side and then rotated them.

The RX Carnage revealed (semi-56k friendly)
WJM replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
high or low it doesnt make a difference. i wonder why people other than I blow these up like so.... i lost one due to the 5 qts i put in it dissapearing in a matter of 5 miles...locked up...then unlocked and screwed all the bearings. the other one, first one...was 20w50 with a fram in the wintertime....6400 RPM...spun a rod bearing....block was fine. as it turned out...oil starvation AND the fram came apart. Otherwise...i've done nothing but balls to the wall with every engine after that.....either cheap headgaskets blow, or....rings give up....or....well, thats it so far. -
My RX on stock boost is as fast a stock 2.5 RS sedan 5spd...from a dead stop...we let up at 80...otherwise, i was pulling a little on him before shifts. So...HA. Cant wait to get the MS back on it! Injectors and BOOOOOOOOOST here I come!

Ok, so for an estimated price range of.... EA82(all): $200 (18 studs, nuts and washers) ER27(all): $300 (27 (it IS 27, right?) studs nuts and washers) how many people would SERIOUSLY be interested in a headstud set? These will NOT be ARP units. After looking at ARPs stuff...I dont think they would be....suitable(plus WAY too expensive)....to have make them, nor will I actually use their stuff on SUBARUs any more. So.....how many will pay that price plus ~$15 shipping?

What do these things do? (ER27)
WJM replied to SakoTGrimes's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Those look old... definatly NOT any type of bearing used on a SUBARU. -
Timing Belt kits for EA82Ts?
WJM replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
dude, thats a KILLER deal. I'd almost buy all 5 avalible..... -
oh, didnt see that it was a pre-85 car....i think it still has a bushing up there...not sure tho.
-
looking at it from the rear of the car...think of it as a V the the point of the V being where the rear wheel is....and one side of the V being alot shorter than the other. One end of the V ends at the subframe more towards the middle of the car...theres a bushing there. The other ends way out towards the outermost reach of the subframe...almost 8 inches from the outerportions of the body shell...theres a bushing there. I believe that is called the trailing link...where as the first peice is called the trailing arm.
-
the rear is a kit and it replaces all 4 bushings for the trailing arms.
-
well....after lowering my RX...i noticed there was excessive -camber and toe in... After replacing the stock bushings with the SuperPro poly bushing kit for the rear...the -camber went from -2.0 to -0.5 and the toe almost back to zero at the same ride height. I imagine replacing the old ones with new OE ones would have a similar effect. My vote is for bushings.

So I'm corner balancing the RX today...
WJM replied to WJM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
hahaha... last time I put it at 49.9%...then when I hope in, it goes to 50.0%. So with it at 49.7 and almost no gas...it'll be close enough for the time being. After all, new springs and shocks are comming soon...plus, only one autox left before the new season and its a non-points event anyhow. Plus I'll be running a new class. It'll weigh 2660 with me in it. -

2500 w/out rear cargo cover, all 4 floor matts...removed coin change and otherstuff floating around the car... 2496 after removing all the dynomat from behind the rear trim pannel. 7~10 lbs left to remove from under the rear carpet. Enough of that...cross weight is sitting at 51% right now...I'm off to make that 49.9~50.0% and call it a day. Oh...the two washer tanks are still mostly full...thats about another 6~10 lbs. -
...and as a layed it down on the scales... 2518 lbs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I dont even have the light AL seats installed or the rest of the dyno matt taken out! Plus all the floor matts are in...rear cargo cover...and some of the other fluid tanks are full. But it is at near fuel starving level of fuel...meaning ~5 gallons left in it. hahaha... more to come as I empty those and take stuff out. Ok, done. Well, zeroed the scales again as it was showing -6 total when I was adjusting the collars... LF:753---RF:717 LR:527---RR:505 Total 2502 Cross--1245---49.7% Left---1280---51.1% Rear---1032---41.2% All weights are in US Pounds. Now...for a test drive...and experiement with swaybars vs no swaybars.

As an update...pics to come... I swaped the plates side to side so i get a little +caster with ALOT of -camber...and slotted the plate more....
-
snap....you could do full double A arms then....IIRC within the rules...
-
SVX tops are way different IIRC...I think that if you redrilled the strut towers (legal in ST and SP IIRC) then you can fit the Legacy-Impreza plates like they are on an Leg or Imp....OR...you can redrill the plates for the stock location mounting holes....

only the spring/shock need to absorb bumps-jump-rocks-curbs....
