Is it carburetor'd ? I have an 86' and the only thing that has left me is timing belts and fuel pump. Fuel, spark and time and it should run. If your rotor turns try a shot of starter fluid. If nothing check for spark. If you have spark, and starter fluid yields nothing then its back to timing belts I would think.

And never had to leave the Farum Glad you got that biff, looks like an honest deal I'd be interested in details of how the transaction transpires from here.

Whoa, this thread dropped to the second page :-\ I replaced a taillight assy I got courtesy of Uberoo on my GL. Was sceered to drive it with that one busted out all over the place cuz these La Center Cops is pretty bored. It has a bit more "air gap" than it did before but bolted right in and even the bulbs were all good.

Hey there, I was kinda hopin you would chime in, I read a couple of your builds threads n such. Always good to have competent help around too :-\ I might have a third passenger. My daughter is 11 and the co-owner of this BRAT but would like to give the wife a chance to come as well. She could follow but if there is a welcome/open seat in the convoy...at least I offered

What kind of bedliner are you thinking about? I was tossing that idea around too but don't really want to pay to have it sprayed in by a shop. I have a buddy who used some line-x type stuff that he rolled on his Land Cruiser. I know its been out in the weather for a good 4 years now any way. I need to ask him how its holding up.
-
Rite on! That should look pretty clean once you get all coated. I will have to look again but I thought I had something in the way under the bed to be able to bolt the rear bracket that way. I did notice the tight fit of the handle bars when I set mine in there. I still have the most of the legs left on my bracket and it was still a snug fit so I will keep that in mind for measuring twice, cut once I was thinking about using angle like that but for the rear bracket, have mounts welded to the bed for the rear channel that could slide under and then lock in with bolts in the forward bracket to lock it in. So in sense the bracket would install much like the seats do on the bracket... Thx for the shots, and welding looks good too. What kinda welder? Keep us updated eh

I think Tom is on the right path. I have not seen it happen on a Subie but I have seen the same thing happen on riding mowers. The ignition switch itself causes the coil to ground when in the Start position. I know the ignition system is not the same but the theory and principles, as well as the operation of the switch, are. I think you could disconnect the Positive lead from the starter and check voltage at the coil with the key in the Run position then in the Start position. It may not be the switch itself in this case but could be another component or wiring which Tom listed several.

Went to prospect my new creek crossing/bridge with the wife in the GL, under nearly a full moon...even tho I backed it down that incline just the other day, figures with the wife along, and darkness fell, *************** wouldn't back out of it took a hike to the house and got the Toy to winch it out....

So I have some other pics floating around other threads, so up to date here with the bed stripping. Initial scouring to find the real problem areas. Wire brush the blisters out and find the holes what need fillin... I am actually thinking about a dark maroon color for final paint, that blue I still love and had left over from my Land Cruiser.... Since I have seen some recent activity in the oldies forum, I thought I would post and track the progress of my lil buru refurb here as well. Refurbish and not restore, to begin with it has already been upgraded to an EA81 D/R 4sp. It runs strong, drives straight and leaks no engine oil...ENGINE oil Found the gear oil in the tranny off the dipstick after a 1000 miles however, and since I filled it, I now get some drips where I park it...but not major just another item on the list. I say refurb, not restore, because while I do want it to be a BRAT and reconcilable as such, I just want it reliable and functional as a driver. Largely for my retirement driving to morning coffee but mainly for my daughter to drive to high school in a few years. I think the young fella I bought it from is or has been a member here so hopefully he will see this and chime in sometime. This is what I had from the start It did have a clutch cable issue or so I thought initially, but, figured it was just the cable or the routing from my previous experience with my 86' GL wagon. Turns out it was the cable even after I found.....This crack in the pedal assy A visit to GD and his hospitable cruise to the JY for a EA81 pedal assy, aquired me a new clutch cable and pedal assy for the partial the price of a new cable. The pedal assy would not work without major modding but I did replace the cable with the one we pulled and... butta baby:grin: I am still in the market and on the look out for a gen 1 pedal assy. Not particular what shape it is in just need a model to get material and plans to fab or strengthen one. Now here is where I get lucky, I found another 80' BRAT for sale with all the other lil spiffy goodies this one didn't have. Granted it didn't run, was painted flat black and lime green, but for the price and the body hmmm I feel lucky... This is about where a new post should start me thinks

Well hey, I am in process of doing my bed too so PLEASE repay the favor with some pics. I too want to be able to remove the seat bracket so....maybe we can toss ideas back n forth...??? I did a bunch of grinding and such on my bed today, priming and even some color I had around....will get some pics up later.... asis

This is the only one I have seen so, like I said, Idk if it factory or not. I think with the one seat belt bolt, which has a nut welded underneath, and 3 others with reinforcement underneath, it should hold a couple of lights and look spiffy, but I am not counting on it for any kind of support or structural improvement :-\

I can get some pics of the high bar I have, it doesn't have the extensions to the wheel wells but as JonV said, and I agree, it is only eye candy or a "light bar" I had thought of adding the extensions but all it would do is take up room and add weight and not really any support IMO. Where the outer seat belts bolt there is a "raised pad...?" and the bar has a plate about 3" x 6" with holes for mounting, one of those holes do line up with the seat belt hole. The plate extends past the pad and has 1/2" or so thick, "feet" welded on the underside that fit in between the ribs of the bed. There are upper supports on the bar I have also that meet up with the sides of the body right behind the sliding window. Neither of my two brats have mounting holes or....? for the upper brackets so I do not know if they were added or what. I am thinking of using some type of riv-nut or the like there if I keep them since the only other thing that looks likely would be sheet metal screws and I think that would do more damage than it would add any support. Hope that makes some sense...if not, it should when I get the pics :-\
