it's all about timing, you wanna make sure your ready to give the gas when it's needed but let off when it's not I wish I had a steap slope that had a gentle grade into and out of it, it would be nice to see how steap it could go

usually the backfire (actually called afterfire, backfire comes out the carb) is cause by the anti-dieseling cylinder on the carb, there's an easy test for it if it's a small little "puff" then mine does that too, I think it's just standard equipment

I have a 2" back off the header mated to a turbo muffler, sounds pretty good, kind like yours, but mine is a 1.6L carbed engine I believe the 2" keeps the bottom end decent
