  1. I'd buy the whole shell, you will save yourself SO much work in the long run. This is exactly what I did with my '56 Imperial (my body even came from Washington). Shipping that huge hulk was $1000, but it saved me about $5000 in parts and labor to cobble together my rusty WI body. Plus, a car that has never rusted will always outlast a car that was rusted and then cut and repaired. There is NO replacement for sheet metal that has never been rusty. Ship it here, clean it up, seal it up and start swapping.
  2. You better go buy a case of PB blaster and start soaking down all of the bolts everywhere on that car. Wire brush, PB blaster and repeat, most of those are going to be a pain.

  4. Ben, loved your response to the current owner of my old GL-10, you're right on.
  5. Put 800 miles on it today. Went from Waterford, WI (southeast corner of the state) to Superior, WI (northwest corner of the state) and back in one day for a failed deal. Put 1400 miles on it in the last week as last weekend I put 400 miles on it and another 200 going back and forth to work during the week. Really running like a champ lately. Now sits at 204,400 miles (1996).

My 1996 Legacy Brighton Wagon (2.2 engine with 5MT trans and 3.9 gear ratio) with outback struts and 27 inch tires: If I'm in a hurry on the freeway I cruise at 3000 RPM, so about 75 mph, and I get 24 to 25 mpg. If I'm not in a hurry or on state highways I cruise at 2500 RPM, so about 65 mph, and I get about 31 mpg.
  7. It wasn't working when I owned the car, not sure why. I'm guessing some components were missing from the auto to dual range swap. You're going to have to hold the pedal steady for 7 hours, but hopefully we can get it working at some point. That car would be really bad rump roast if the height adjustment components were still in it and working.
  8. If Miles could meet us at your house I'd still prefer it. I'm excited to help you get this car back but I'm not excited about sitting in the car for 14 hours straight (getting old I guess).
  9. Traveling to get the GL-10: I think I'd like to get to your place at 4:30 am, Miles if you're coming along I'd prefer that you meet us at Tom's house. If we have to pick you up that is another hour of driving without making an progress of heading toward Duluth and it is already going to be a LONG day. Tom, I would bring two spare tires of matching size that will fit this car. If you happen to get a flat, we can change two (you can run this in 2WD only right?). Also bring all the extra fluids you can think of. I'll bring some extra hose clamps, bring your tools for sure. Perhaps we should bring a used timing belt and components (I have a new water pump I can bring just in case as well). Do you know if a timing belt job was done on this motor since it was dropped in this car? I have the rubber mat in the back of my car, if spare parts are included and we need to load some into my car that is fine. We should try to keep the load on GL-10 as light as possible.

  11. In the first picture you posted in this thread, you show the car when you first got it. It's parked on a tarp in the tall grass with many other cars, is that your place and are all those your cars?
  12. This is an impressive build, glad I finally stumbled upon it. Keep up the great work, good to know somebody is saving these cars.
  13. I think the bumper should stay with the car, it's so awesome. Put some new lights in it and be done, or put some big chrome teeth in it like that old Cadillac we saw in Milwaukee. If it's too flush with the head lights we can extend it out. I just think that bumper makes the car, but obviously it will be your call.

  16. I've been thinking about this a lot and remembered that the EJ22 that I traded with the car was out of that 1993 Legacy sedan we stripped, it had roughly 193,000 miles but on the drive home it seamed to be plenty peppy. Not sure if that is the engine that ended up in it.
  17. My old '95 Legacy "Crazy Lori" AKA "Old Greenie" had the front tow hooks cut off. As for the hose in hose, if you gave me some dims I might be able to machine up some aluminum hose adapters on the lathe at work. Can't promise them fast though.

  20. My dad built a 2500 square foot garage so it's over there. It should be on the road this year (mid summer).
  21. I don't run timing belt covers on my EJ22 either. In fact, when I removed the covers I found them to be filled with dirt and oil and the timing components stay cleaner without the cover than they were with the cover. Plus you can easily check the conditions of the components any time the hood is open. Just make sure to keep the PS, AC and Alt belts in good shape.
  22. :-\ Bummer, but I'd buy the tires and wheels. Or trade for you BFGoodrichs on steelies back or something inbetween.
