somebody on here has got to know...
...if this heater core is for an EA81 or EA82 subaru. I ordered it at NAPA, which had no listing for an 86 wagon. They listed a "2 door hatchback", and a "2 door sedan". I knew the hatchback wouldn't be the same as my wagon, and I figured the "sedan" was either a sedan or a coupe, so I ordered one for a sedan. (I also tried to get one for a loyale, since I knew that would be the EA82 body style, but they don't list those either).

Helping Subaru in Canada
Snowman replied to ddbcanada's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAlong the same lines, you could play off the phrase, "as sure-footed as a mountain goat". There could be a shot of some people in their biga$$ SUV parked at the base of a mountain looking at some goats on the top, with the people asking, "Man, how did they get up there?" Then the shot would change to a close up of the goats, with one goat in the background driving off in a Subaru.

Helping Subaru in Canada
Snowman replied to ddbcanada's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXDepending on where in Canada you're advertising, I think the biggest thing you can push is their ability to handle bad road conditions. The biggest single reason I own Subarus exclusively is that, although they are not fast on dry roads or in a straight line, they can handle snow, rain, mud, dirt roads, and anything else nature can throw at them, much better than any other vehicle I've seen. For example: During the winter, I routinely make an 800 mile trip between home and school, and do it in three hours less than most people take during the summer.

Ratio of running vs. non-running subarus
Just curious, since most people on here own several subarus, and many of them are "project vehicles"..... How many subarus do you currently own that run and move under their own power? And, How many subarus do you currenlty own that do not run or otherwise cannot move under their own power? I'll start...amazingly, both of mine run!

ALternator.
What exactly is the problem? If it's not charging properly, you could have a bad connection or a bad fusible link that's just barely passing current and gets worse when it warms up. I've also had a bad fusible link cause high voltmeter readings and all sorts of other wierd stuff. Bad grounds also can cause any number of problems.

What do your friends think of your hobby!?
Nearly everybody at work and school loves my car. They think it's the coolest thing ever. Other than my boss, who just thinks it's silly. Most of my friends aren't car people, so they think it's neat and that's about it, but those who are into cars think it's weird but give me lots of respect for doing something out of the ordinary. My parents both think it's a worthless piece of junk.

spare tire rim + swampers?
It's been done, but I don't think it's safe. Those rims are not very heavy duty, and are not designed for the load or speed that they would be operating at.

1986 thermostat.....
Ditto on the air. It probably has an air bubble that devolps right under the thermostat while sitting overnight. Did you get an OEM thermostat or an aftermarket one? Did it have the little hole with the jiggle pin in it? If not, it may be very difficult to get all the air out of the system.

Why does it do this?
Snowman replied to yuyu2222's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNot cranking when hot is often a ground-related problem. Coolant temp sensor sounds like the most likely candidate.

Adapter Plate Prices.....
88hatchmonster makes the plates for AA, and sells them himself for the same price. So far, those are the only two places to buy one from, so if you want to do it cheaper, you gotta do it yourself. I just bought one from 88hatchmonster, because I don't have the time to screw around making my own.

Why does it do this?
Snowman replied to yuyu2222's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt won't crank, or it won't fire? Big difference here. Trust me, these cars can be started at -40 and below without a block heater, so something is not right. The suggestions made already are good if it's a no-fire issue. If it won't crank, start checking your battery, cables, and ground connections.

Just Installed Honda Accord springs
Probably not. I don't really have any use for them right now, and I wasn't thinking about shipping costs when I asked, which would make them substantially more expensive.

cv issues
You could luck out and make it several hundred miles. Is the boot torn, or is it just making noise? If the boot's torn, you can keep packing wheel bearing grease in there and it may prolong the joint a little. I'd get a spare axle. Carry it and the necessary tools in the car with you in case it goes.

Block heater left on all weekend :/
Snowman replied to fnlyfnd's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXFor some reason, 1500 watts sticks in my mind, so about 13-15 amps. Most of the timers I've seen are rated for at least 20 amps. And no, you didn't hurt anything. At worst, you wore out the heater unit a little bit. Since I plug my car into the university's outlet, I leave it plugged in for a week at a time and have noticed no ill effects.

Cv ?
Not sure about the best place to get them. I had bad luck with NAPA once, but I've been told that Schucks axles are not very good by other people. Can't really help you there. Check your ball joints for sloppiness and replace them if they're bad. Also check the front wheel bearings and seals, as those may need replacement.

offroad lighting and power supply
First off, mixing types of batteries in a dual-battery system is bad juju. Usually, one battery will take most of load and get worn out quickly, and the other will just sit there and get sulfated. It's usually not even considered acceptable to run two batteries of the same type if one is old and one is new. I would go with either two red-tops or two blue-tops or something like that. I'm going to be running two red-tops in my soob because I'm looking for cranking capacity more than reserve capacity, but if you're going to be running an inverter with the engine off, the deep cycle blue-tops would be a better choice. Upgrading to a 100-amp GM alternator would be a very good idea. I've found that the stock alternator will run all those lights at cruising speed, but usually just the stock lights plus one pair of extra lights at idle. Make sure you upgrade your battery cables as well. The stock ones are pathetic.
