  1. So...turns out the timing belt tensioner on the left side of the engine came loose and through off all the timing. It runs like a champ now.
  2. Don't the 2WD EA82s have all the mounting bolt holes for the 4wd setup? I agree with trying to find a 4wd so you can have one as a daily driver.
  3. That's what I was getting at. But it is good to know the fact that older ones had a DOJ. True.
  4. A couple of :Flame:will get it out:lol:. Good luck though. Maybe flag the area with flags or marking tape so the plow drivers don't plow it.
  5. It's an ea82. Come to think of it, I haven't check the right timing belt. I checked the left one just to make sure the disty was still spinning.
  6. I believe all EA82 rear axles are the same. As with all EA81s are the same. But you can't swap EA81 to EA82 or vice-versa.
  7. I did the spark plug thing. It sounds like it's running on 2 cylinders. I think the disty may have water in it. It's also spfi.
  8. Hello all. It's been ages since I posted in the general forums. The story: The other day, I finally got to take my 1988 DL Wagon, with it's untested 4 inch lift out to play. It did awesome. There was some steep road climbs with snow that it just pushed on through. THEN....I found a trail that no one has used. My friend walked along the trail and scouted it out. He said that there was a little puddle in part of it, so I went for it, I had to cross some deep ruts to continue on with the trail and about 50 yards into the trail...it felt like my front end just got ripped out. What it turned out to be was the fact that the "little frozen puddle" was a 3 ft deep puddle with 2 inch thick ice over it. My car actually made it a car length and a half onto the ice before it fell through. The questions: So, the car was at operating temp before taking the ice bath, what could that do to the engine (it was never completely submerged.)? I turned the car immediately, so I know I didn't hydro lock it. But could a starter cause hydrolock damage? When I got it home, had to be towed, I drained the oil and front diff. Oil was a milkshake and the diff was normal. Thanks for your time, [HTi]Johnson
  9. If it's anything like the EA82 tick, no, it's not on it's way out. I've got thousands of miles on an engine that sounds like that.
  10. Harder than an EA82. I can tell you that. I never managed to get an EA81 tranny split, but was able to with EA82. I think they EA81s have a big nut at the back of the gearing that I was able to find a socket for it.
  11. Beautiful. Simply beautiful. I don't think you're going to do much to 1/4 steel plate if you jump your Subaru with it as a lift.
  12. Hello everyone. From now until December 31st Head Trauma, inc. is offering any and all products with a %15 off discount. Just because we're happy that USMB is back up and kicking rump roast. Check out our page at www.headtraumainc.com Here's a picture of some of our bumpers. We also do custom work. Contact me with some ideas/sketches we'll bring from thought to bolted on your Subaru.
  13. Mostly correct. You'll find some 5spd D/R FTAWD that are 3.7, most I think are this way. Some XTs had 5spd AWD with 3.9
  14. Is it the part attached to the body? If it is hollow: can you jam a piece of solid metal in there and put the two pieces back together?
  15. You got it backwards...supposed to go up with the wagons, not down. geez! Just kidding, I don't have any advice for lowering one because all I do is lift it, but I think lowered EA82s look pretty sweet. Just please, no fart can mufflers. (This message was meant to be a Kudos) Maybe this will help.
  16. The front struts are offset 22 degrees, they go in towards the car. Like this \ engine /. Probably will need longer brake lines, it's pretty simple. PM me for more info,
  17. I have a a rule, if it has more than one moving part, it'll probably be crap.
  18. I'd guess a motor mount. Yeah, best bet would get to get it welded. If you remove it from the car, carefully, and take it to a shop, they should do if for a half rack of beer. If you don't have another means of getting the pipe there, call a local exhaust shop. Or call the Local Subaru guy and ask to buy the y-pipe as scrap metal. Just don't tell him the catalytic converter is worth some money, like $75-$120 (them's got platinum in 'em).
  19. It's hard to do a turbo through a carb. You can have the turbo blow through the carb, but it's really finnicky. But if you're planning on putting a carb on and getting rid of the turbo, you run into compression issues....or lack thereof. Turbo engines have lower compression than carb's.
  20. I agree. I usually plug weld a washer to top of the bolt and then plug weld a nut to the washer, worked 4 or 5 times for me. The heat from welding helps a lot too.
  21. They might be talking about an additive they had with the first phase of the 2.5 liter block. It had open decks and had a pretty high rate of HG failures. Subaru tried to band-aid the problem with an additive, pretty much a block sealer. They redesigned the HG and solved the problem. They also closed the deck of the new phases of blocks and solved it.
