1.
If this thing grenades is the motor done for or do i need to do a timeing belt kit. Ben
Nope, just a new timing belt kit. The engines are non-interference, meaning the valves won't hit each other or the pistons if the belts break.
2. Yup, stick clacking away after installing a new pump. When I resealed the engine, I used anaerobic sealant, so I know the ports aren't clogged. Damn lifters.
3. Agreed. I tried everything. Now I'm replacing the pump with a brand new spendy Subaru one. The next thing after that would be replacing the HVLAs themselves...I'm not about to do that. I'd rather save and do the EJ conversion that I've been wanting to do anyways.(Not saying that an EJ conversion is easier then replacing the HVLAs.)
4. I've heard stories from a friend's coworker. Him and his other coworker built one of these for each car, and they say they get better mileage, like 14 mpg more. It could be that he changed his driving habits, but he swears he didn't. Check this out http://www.drivewater.com It's not about running it off complete hydrogen, it about mixing it in. I think if you want better MPG you gotta heat the fuel, not the air, it'll atomize better and ignite more thoroughly.
5. I've heard that they are paying more for scrap steel then scrap aluminum right now. Steel prices are outrageous. That being said, you're going to see more cars getting crushed that shouldn't.
6. Something could have rattled loose after all the driving? Don't you like how the Sube quits after it brings you back to safety? I drove 120 miles and then the subaru died a couple blocks from home. Turned out that I forgot to remove the pin on the idler pulley (ej), after a timing belt job and drove 120 miles with the damn thing bouncing.
7. Oh I know it's not for sale. THis is the Service Reps rig. IT has a complete EJ swap in it. Don't know what engine. And a cool bumper.
8. BINGO! SO, all is not lost, is it? Does she run? Hopefully things work out.
9. That thing is badass. I'm going to come by during work tomorrow to see if you're there. You on this board? OH yeah, Kendall Subaru, in Eugene.
10. Want it? crowbar_therapy@msn.com is my paypal. $20 plus your address, it's your's.
11. I was going to say this last night, but I didn't know if the Gel Cells put off hydrogen. Hydrogen isn't the best thing to have filling up your cab...The Hindenberg was filled with that. We all know how things turned out for that, unfortunately.
12. Yeah steel prices are outrageous! From March to April, the prices increased %60!!!! With a %5 increase every month after that.
13. Awesome, I was going to goto that but I got a new job and they want me to work that weekend.
14. I know this isn't the marketplace, but I have one, $20 shipped. The thing on the very right, right?
15. I've had great luck with the Ebay kits...just not on turbo engines. If the car isn't a main means of transport and can wait for the good parts, do it. If you need the car to run tomorrow, the cheap kit will work for a while. If I'm on a budget, I use Fel-Pro Head Gaskets and cheap seals. You usually can find the fel-pros for under $20 each EDIT: just looked, they've gone up a little bit, around $22 each.
16. A 10mm twelve point deep socket works.
17. How did you do the timing? DId you follow MilesFox's procedure? If you Followed the Haynes manual, I can almost guarentee that it was done wrong, I did. Here's the Link to the procedure.
18. Hey, I have a couple turbo manifolds, they are the standard MPFI, from 1987.5 +, not spider, you can have one or both, free, just pay shipping. PM me if you're interested.
19. No, I was thinking military hummer style. Sit in it. I know not the safest/smartest thing, but could be the coolest.
20. No, but I'm thinking of installing a gun turret...no joke.
21. Check this thread. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=85536
22. I don't see the problem with just replacing the one head, but if you had two, replace them both. But then, look into the things like: How much is this car worth to you? How much is the work going to cost you? Can you do the work yourself, you probably could. How much is a less mileage car on Craigslist? If you replace one head, make sure to replace both head gaskets though.
