  1. Ill attest to that. Almost had a heart attack when he said 35. Thought if he was right, something is seriously wrong with my wagon!! :-p 18mpg in all town driving with mine. Working on the first 50/50 tank now with some city and a bunch of highway. Looking more promising with 210 miles traveled at 1/4 of the tank left (was 210 and on E when I did all city)
  2. Good god, if you modify that in any way I think there will be a Subaru hit team tracking you down.. Id honestly say auction it and buy another one. That one would look nice in a collector showroom, not being driven or god forbid, getting wrecked in an accident. I almost guarantee if you sold that, you could buy another good looking Brat that has the maintenance up to date, aftermarket work done to it, and still have cash left over. (obviously it wouldn't be that nice, but i wouldn't feel as bad about driving it)
  3. How much would shipping be to Danville PA, 17821? If they're still $125 a piece I may be willing to pick up a set if they dont cost a fortune to ship. Also, are you able to do a tube bumper for the rear similar to the front one? If you're able to do that Id probably be more interested in the tube rather solid plate but either way, Id interested in a shipping quote. Let me know, either through the thread or PM. Thanks!
  4. Something like this one on obk25xt's rig would be ideal to me. Doesnt need the underbar protection but the rest of that design looks fabulous. http://i739.photobucket.com/albums/xx32/obk25xt/subaru/IMG_1335.jpg
  5. Any updates on this? Super interested to see how it turned out.
  6. Id say keep it simple with some good approach angles. Doesnt NEED a stinger or winch mount, just keep it a simple bolt on tube bumper and it would probably sell. If you wanted to design it with areas to mount stingers or winch plates that would be a nice option. Make it easy to fit a stinger for those who want it, but keep the bumper basic for people who just want a nice little aftermarket tube piece.
  7. Last night I cracked my windshield on my Subie getting the ice off it... Also found a few Miatas to buy to act as a anythingotherthansnow driver because the 18-19 mpg in the turbo wagon hurts the wallet.
  8. +1 Would LOVE pics of this mod. If its rather easy to do Im totally in because my seats are kinda flat and hard from years of use.
  9. Ok, this is just getting stupid now. They got the new ones in, i checked the lnegth and they looked ok. Not quite as long but they'll work fine. They didnt come with new mounts... I cant see a way to mount these with the old mounts as the inserts look pressed on and unremovable. Im soon going junkyard scrounging I think. Get a used set of mounts and drill out the old studs in them. Then put in some bolts to hold the damn lift support in there... These are GOING to get on there... Someway.
  10. You shut it, you!!! lol, just kidding. I want bumpers! Yea, the important thing to me would be make a prototype OR some sketches of the design. A design similar to this would be AWESOME. These are the ones i was going to buy for my Tracker before i wrecked it and bent the frame. http://www.trailtough.com/components/com_virtuemart/shop_image/product/Suzuki_Sidekick__48ceb1bfbc75f.jpg http://www.trailtough.com/components/com_virtuemart/shop_image/product/Suzuki_Sidekick__48ceb22c41844.jpg
  11. If you can mass produce and ship for a reasonable price put me up on the list for a front and rear set. I would LOVE to see a prototype for them. My input for the designs would be simple: have d shackles for recovery points, maybe light mounts on front, tow hitch incorporated into rear bumper would be awesome. Low pro and simple is all id want. Id totally be open for a set, no question. No one makes these thing for old Subies anymore and around here the 4x4 shops rip people off like mad. Would be sweet to get a bolt on set for a good price.
  12. Push button 4wd? Theres a little mechanism on the side of the tranny that unlocks the rear from 4wd. Try moving that manually from underneath. I believe its a vac operated gauge from the button, so theres something screwy in your electrics or vac lines preventing that mechanism from disengaging probably. When i flat towed my Subie I had to crawl under and check that thing was off before i started towing it.
  13. I had them order me some struts for the '84 wagon, we'll see if they work. On a side note, on this mint GL on Ebay I noticed a slight oddity...http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v329/Hotabuch/eBay%20cars/89%20SUBARU%20GL-10/IMGP1243.jpg That has on the left what i have, the eyelet on both ends. On the other side it appears to have the ball socket type they gave me at Autozone... What the heck is going on with that?
  14. For 1987 they still list the xxxx02 part number for Sachs lift supports which has that ball socket so it wont fit on mine. Do i have an oddball one? Was the ball socket end have been swapped out for the older eyelet style or something? Should I just order the SG123001 Sachs struts from an older GL? Every place i find has the ball socket listed for '87 and thats just not going to work. The wagon body styles are close to the same right? There arent any big differences in their dimensions are there?
  15. Gah, i always forget to say what i have. '87 turbo GL wagon. EA82 body. Just searched the 94 Loyale and they show the same part numbers for these same eyelet/ball socket ones. HOWEVER, these two show up when i searched '84. Winners??? The Sachs one is the one i listed in my first post that seemed like the comparable one to the eyelet/ball Sachs they gave me. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/Mighty-Lift-Support-Lifts/1984-Subaru-GL/_/N-ikfqiZ8ii2g?counter=1&itemIdentifier=47260_3214_1791_ http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/Sachs-Support-Lifts/1984-Subaru-GL/_/N-ikfqiZ8ii2g?counter=3&itemIdentifier=853350_0_7470_4610 So, the only differences i see other than the correct mounting styles is the length. Is that slight length difference going to hurt anything? Are they similar enough to work? I dont think an '84 and '87 wagon is too different in their actual hatch setup, are they? Should i go for the Mighty Lift or Sachs also? Ive heard Sachs is a reputable name, but dont know much about Mighty Lift.
  16. These are the style that Autozone gave me: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/Sachs-Support-Lifts/1987-Subaru-GL/_/N-iiun1Z8ii2g?counter=1&filterByKeyWord=lift+support&fromString=search&itemIdentifier=853351_0_7470_4610 Notice they have an eyelet on one end and a ball socket on the other. I dont know if i have the only Subaru in history without a ball socket on one end but, I dont have a ball socket on one end!! :-p Mine is both eyelets. Now after some research, i may require these(they have a product number ending in 1 rather than 2, same product i think): http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/Sachs-Support-Lifts/_/N-8ii2g?counter=0&filterByKeyWord=SG123001&fromString=search&isSearchByPartNumber=true&itemIdentifier=853350_0_0_ These have the correct eyelet on both ends but they are 5 mm shorter when extended and over 20mm longer when compressed... Anyone have advice here? Or maybe a store that WONT sell me the wrong lift supports?? :-\
  17. Ive heard the 2.2 turbo is one of Subarus best engines ever, so i say buy the thing, put that engine into the GL and find another car to drive while your doing the swap. I know i solve nothing with this solution. You have a non running engine-less car, a more indepth project and no daily driver... lol
  18. I still dont have the correct diff in the back of my GL so i couldnt take it out but me and a buddy did go out to the local mall parking lot. He had his 08 Legacy, I had my moms 98 Outback Wagon. Fun was had. He got his going in a wicked stationary cyclone. The wagon is a bit too old and worn out to do that stuff, i just drifted around.
  19. Anybody got pics of them mounted on the front-most rail of a stock ea82 GL wagon roof rack? Im aiming for that i think. Either 2 or 4 lights up there (probably 4, 2 aimed forward, 2 cocked off slighty to each side) On the rear rack mount Ill do the same but lights facing backwards. 360 degree ancillary lighting. Woo! Hope my new Maxima alt can handle it. Also, i want to swap in 2 more supports on the rack and have a full sized spare up there too once i lift it.
  20. Thats pretty kick ***! Im always debating if i want a simple 2" lift or go slightly higher because 2" doesnt seem like its too much; but every time I see a rig like this it leans me back towards the 2" decision. It looks like your right on the "slide onto the front seat" level. Is that correct? Thats what im aiming for in mine, im lazy.
  21. That doesnt seem to be the case with this. It had a ball socket end for one side that cant be removed and theres not a ball in sight for it to attached too.
  22. My new rear wagon lift supports are the wrong ones i think They gave me Mighty Lift d95720. They have the right end for one but for the other thay have a ball type seating... Anyone else have this issue? Let me check the Autozone website to see if it was the right part number. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/Mighty-Lift-Support-Lifts/1987-Subaru-GL/_/N-iiun1Z8ii2g?counter=0&filterByKeyWord=lift+support&fromString=search&itemIdentifier=193508_3214_1791_ Well what the hell. They SAY its the right part number, but i dont see how they'll work...
  23. I DID actually get inside and check it out, yea (took its heater buttons, mine were worn to unreadable). I even played the shifter and it was nice and tight (same with the 4wd shifting). The ONLY dilemma is that the engine was a N/A EA82 and not a turbo... Now, this could mean the original engine was swapped, could mean they converted it to non turbo but kept the original everything else, could mean they swapped the whole kit and kaboodle (engine/tranny/rear) from a donor car for simplicity sake. I DO remember it having the 3.7 in it though (i think... I mainly just checked to see if it was an LSD unit. no, it wasnt). So the rear is 3.7 but it does come with the issue that the idiots doing the swap may have just swapped in a N/A engine and tranny meaning the tranny could be a normal DR with the 3.9 gearing inside... All in all, the shady naturally aspirated engine makes me question what the hell else funky is going on with that thing. Even if it IS a normal D/R tranny, $150 is a great price isnt it? I have the pushbutton in mine, so id love a D/R. Could i count the splines on the outputs for the front axles to find its gear ratio? I may just go get it irregardless.
  24. Whoops, i always forget some details. I have no idea of the year but its an EA82 style wagon. Has the "Full Time AWD Turbo" or something like that on the door if that helps determine year. Ill snag pics tomorrow if i can. All i remember is that it lacked an LSD rear, dont remember ratio though. I dont kow what the heck the previous owner swapped and what they kept. Ill update tomorrow with more info to see if i should get some cash for this tranny. Some ancillary questions about the trnny too: - Will it hold up to an EJ in front of it? - What ratio is a dual range FT manual tranny? Id be thrilled if someone could assist me here =]
  25. Im heading back to a junkyard locally here tomorrow i think to check this GL out again. Ive been thinking about since i first saw it a few weeks ago. It says Full Time AWD Turbo on the rear door of the wagon. Is there any way i can confirm the thing is actually what the door says before shelling out $150 for it (the guy i talked to said it ran good, he drove it around the yard into the spot its in now) The only reason I ask is because it SAYS that on the door BUT it has an EA82 under the hood... No turbo in sight for that thing. I assume the turbo engine popped and they swapped in the EA82 thats easier to find. Now, the easy solution would be to keep the tranny the same i would assume and just toss in the EA82 right? Either way, is there an easy way to id the tranny? If it is a FT AWD dual range im gonna snag it i think...
