  1. I'm runnin fresh 10-40wt. in it right now. I'll update later down the road. Thanks again. vroommmm.........
  2. I've boiled it in water and also squished it in a vice but it bounces right back with no effect. Felpro could no-doubt have info on it also?
  3. The old original one's I took out were thin and hard and brittle and snapped in half when I tried bending them. I didn't detect any sign of metal in them. Hmmm?
  4. Great. I should have read the Felpro package contents sticker. Oh well. I'll go to Subaru and see if I can get the correct seals. I'm just not the brightest bulb in Seattle. ha ha.
  5. Thanks for your input. I HAVE noticed that my oil pressure is generally higher than it's ever been. e.g. 45 lbs @ 1000 RPM and 70-80 lbs @ 2000 RPM. Could restricted oil passages going to the cam towers cause that? I think I'll put a cup of used motor oil from my ea82 in a tin can and boil this remaining seal atop my coleman stove out in the middle of our local gravel pit just to see what happens. I better get a fire extinguisher first though. duh. I couldn't check the Felpro package list because the garbage man had already ran off with it.
  6. oops. It seems to be running good? I know they had to squish down a little when I tightened the cam tower bolts. I'll have to get the proper seals.
  7. Is this the correct cam tower o-ring for my ea82? I'm describing the o-ring that goes between the cam tower and the head? They were not labeled and were packaged in small manila envelopes inside the Felpro head gasket set I bought. I'm wondering about it now because there were three or four of them included in the head set.
  8. I'm good. I buttoned it up tonight and it purrs like a kitten. No leaks. It started clicking/clacking for awhile until all of the eight HLA's ?? had pumped up. I think thats what they are called? I need to reset the date on my camera.
  9. Can you describe which ones I need to apply a non-hardening sealer on the threads and the underside of the bolt heads? I overlooked that particular procedure when I went through the headbolt torque sequence. I imagine coolant will get into the crankcase without the sealer? Am I correct?
  10. Do any of the cylinder head bolts on my 1988 GL ea82 (non turbo) enter coolant passages?
  11. Yesterday I installed Bosch 4303 platinum spark plugs in my ea82 by mistake when they were supposed to go in my ej22. Can I leave it that way or will it foul things up?
  12. My 96 Legacy 2.2 wagon certainly need's more work than I have time for. Lately I've been swamped with work at my regular job. I'm presently contemplating a drive down to Portland (from Seattle) and just leaving it then taking the train back home. There will be no pressure to rush the work since I have another Subaru at home. Sometime this spring if my mechanic agree's to my proposal..Please move this to the "off topic" section.
  13. Incredible Jeszek. You must have tapped into Wamart's camera system and saw me trying to remember what my Purolator oil filter number was last night? I felt a little frustrated because I couldn't find a cross ref book anywhere at my Walmart so I just grabbed a Fram filter. I didn't feel like walking a quarter mile out to my subaru to look under it in the rain and darkness here in south Seattle. I'm going to exchange today for a Purolator. Thanks.
  14. I've been running Delo 400LE in my 88 GL (Sara) for at least a year now with no problems. I've never heard any top or bottom end noise on cold start's. I know it's a heavy oil and formulated for a diesel motor, but it seem's to work great in my high mileage ea82.
  15. My first subaru, a 91 Loyale 5MT 4WD wagon was doing the same thing. At first it was hard for me to determine which wheel was making the growling noise while driving. I just put the entire car up on jackstands, started it up in third gear while engaged in 4WD high, and then walked around and listened to each wheel as it was spinning. I quickly determined it was the left rear wheel bearing. I found that removing the trailing arm and using the hydraulic press at work to remove and replace with a new bearing was simple and fast. Make sure your subie doesn't fall off the jackstand's whatever you do.
  16. Only 140,000 mile's and its a runner. The rusted out rocker's won't effect the stuctural integrity of the body will it?
  17. I've decided to go with OEM head gaskets from the subaru parts dealer in my area. I sure don't want any issue's coming up from using aftermarket one's.
  18. Autozone in my area want's $23.99 for the Felpro headgasket but their website doesn't specify if that's the price for one or both? And they state that new replacement head bolts are recommended. If I order the complete head gasket kit with new bolts I'll be packing a thin wallet for awhile. Is there an economical way of replacing the head gaskets and still getting a quality result?
  19. I put on a new radiator hose along with a gallon of Prestone antifreeze. I added the antifreeze via the upper radiator hose and I burped it good and drove around for a half hour without it getting hot but I'm still getting alot of persistent air bubbling up at the filler neck of the radiator when it's idling. It's a no-brainer.
  20. Upper radiator hose blew up last night while driving back from town . Luckily I was only a quarter of a mile from my driveway when it went. It's obvious what contributed to that. Temp gauge never reached the half way point.
  21. You might want to check your alternator. When the internal regulator goes haywire your alternator will produce far to much current and systematically start burning up electrical component's. My son in law had a 1985 ea82 wagon that was burning out stuff. He installed a different alternator and had no further problem's.
