  1. A small change. It looks like it is stuck in gear. Any help? Thanks.
  2. I just finished putting my 4-speed back together. I had is apart to replace the input shaft seal, axle seals, and shifter seal. Everything went smoothly. I even managed to keep track of all the little bits in the transfer case. Springs, balls, etc... Now that I have it back together though, Im concerned about the shifting. The trans is still sitting on the shop floor, with the shifter rock mounted. The thing seems to be stuck in neutral. I can get a bit of forward and back movement out of the shifter, as well as all the way to the right, feeling the spring loaded detent for reverse. And looking at some of the photos I took as I went through it, I never touched anything related to the shifting. The only innards I touched was associated with the input shaft. Should I be concerned? Do you think the whole thing need to be spun a bit, and lubed for the shifter guts to start working properly? Thanks for any help. Id hate to get thins thing all the way back into the car to realize I need to pull it right back out again.

    Tires!!

The wintermark is made by Kelly Tire. It is a decent tire. Though it is a true winter tire, so I bet the compound is pretty soft. A quick google search brought this up... http://www.vannehaku.fi/site_media/pictures/large/5063_0.jpg
  4. I have the GL on jackstands, and a 4-speed trans on the workbench.... In about 50 pieces. Silly input shaft seal....................
  5. Yep, small shovel and a small tool kit are stored under the hood. This frees up ALL of the cargo space in the rear of the wagon for, um, cargo!
  6. I had to remove the factory mounts from the factory struts when I replaced mine. This involved drilling out the rivet that holds it together. The new struts came with a pin and a clip to replace the rivet. I had to re-use the mounts.
  7. Success! Nabbed a reman alt off of ebay for $70 shipped to my door. Works great! Idle with no load, 14.38V With high beams, fog lamps, heater fan on full blast, at idle Im seeing 12.8V Lights BARELY dim when the revs come to idle. A few tips... * I found the optimum spacer thickness to be 11mm. I used an end wrench to keep the thickness true as I was grinding the factory spacer down. To do the grinding I put the spacer in a vice, and used an angle grinder. I finished with a bench mounted belt sander. * The round battery lead connector had to be opened up to fit over the stud on the alt. * I didnt like how the spade connectors connected to the alternator on the top. Moisture collection was my concern. I made a foam rubber cover to fix the problem. Just a small rectangular bit, with a cut in the middle to allow the wires to pass through. Rock on!
  8. Sweet! Thanks dude. Ill post a pic when its in. It should be here this week. I look forward to swapping out the POS stock unit. It cannot even handle the heater fan on high and the high beams, at idle.
  9. GD, or anyone else that might know... Ive got a reman 90A Maxima alt in the mail to do this swap, but Im unsure of what pulley I need. Im concerned about the double pulley rubbing the AC belt. What pulley would work? Thanks for any help:)
  10. Pull the skid plate, and take it to a self-wash car wash. Best way to clean it up. Then drive it for a bit with the skidplate off. It should be pretty easy to spot the leaker.
  11. Very nice hatch!! I found a $50 Thule rack locally for my '84 GL. Then I purchased a $60 EBAY Thule snowboard/ski mount for it.
  12. dont worry, once I decide to throw together a little meet Ill send out an open invite. The more stock (or close to it) ea81's the better I picked mine up from a guy in Wilbur WA
  13. The Sachs struts that RockAuto has are the correct ones. Im running them on my '84 GL Wagon:cool:
  14. Dash is 100% functional. But from what I hear it is pretty unreliable, mainly due to the crappy oem alternators. The standard dashes are much more forgiving to voltage spikes. I have plans to to the Maxima alternator swap, in hopes of keeping the dash 100%
  15. looks great! And answers a few questions I had about mine. The interior is identical to mine, but without all the factory and dealer gizmos. Looks like the electric mirrors Ive got are dealer items too. I had assumed they were standard. http://www.bonnefinstudios.com/kwb/automotive/RU09.jpg You do have the silly distributor cover. Somewhat of a rare item, from what I hear. That looks like it will be a fun and easy one to clean up!
  16. Cool deal Brian. Looks like you scored a clean one. I picked up a super clean '84 GL a few months ago from a guy just west of Spokane. We should get these two rides together in the spring for some photos  http://www.bonnefinstudios.com/kwb/automotive/RU10.jpg Steptoe Butte maybe?
  17. I didnt realize the old turboed ones were THAT bad:eek: Damn Im glad I didnt find one of those!
  18. Welcome aboard Brian! There is a few peeps on here from Spokane, as well as a few from the surrounding areas. I live down in Moscow. If you find yourself in a bind and really need a shop to get something repaired, let me know. Im sure we could work something out.
  19. This is a EA81. Nothing in the bellhousing to leak but the rear main and the input shaft seal. That is, unless you forget a flywheel bolt:grin:
