  1. I'm going to answer that one for the OP...No, he does not have a differential lock switch:)
  2. I'm pretty sure the 2004 is the same as my 2001...Only one screw is hard to get to...you take the ashtray out, there is also a philips head screw on the "roof" of the compartment. It's hard to get to, but a short screwdriver helps.
  3. I use a 16x7 Speedline with a +53 os in the nicer months, and for the winter, I use 15x6 steelies from my old 95 Impreza. Both are hub centric, and I imagine yours are as well. Got a picture?
  4. Yeah Miles, I think that once the tire has been used, you can't go putting studs in it. At least, this is what tire places told me.
  5. ^^^ That's the kind of information that's important to reveal. You noticed that the car has had some modification....you should have told us!
  6. Did you happen to notice what trim level it was? Subaru did have finned differential covers at about 1997 I believe, so I would lean towards the car being a late 1996 if you knew it was either or.
  7. I had this problem with my 95 Impreza. The whole spare wheel well would fill up with water, as would the "pockets" on either side of the trunk (fenders). I tried EVERYTHING to find the source of the leak with no luck. It really left me scratching my head. I ended up trading the car in about 1.5 years after it started, so I never got to pursue it much further....not my problem anymore:) My best theory was that water was getting sprayed up from the road somehow through the pressure equilization vents. The stuff in the trunk would be bone dry, but the cheap fiberboard cover and depressions (as mentioned above) would be soaked/filled with water. Best of luck, Kevin
  8. Hey Dan, Just one Subaru for me...it's bicycles that are my weakness. I couldn't pass up those Speedline 2108 wheels when they basically fell in my lap though:) I've also got a Kartboy shifter and bushings, USDM STi tranny mount, and an IPD rear sway bar. Snows and steelies go on this week. You are the FIRST person to ever spot me...ever. I've been on this board since 1999, and NASIOC since 2000. I've driven/stayed all over New England, New York, and even lived in Syracuse for a couple years. For you sir, you get a cookie! If you like small artsy towns, may I suggest Tivoli, Red Hook, and Hudson as well. Woodstock isn't what it used to be (all the hippies are gone) but there are lots of galleries and a good atmosphere. Also, Kingston is coming around. We have lots of galleries Uptown and on the Rondout, and even a very vibrant theatre here in Midtown And yes Dave, the traffic in NP is pretty bad for its size. I actually live in Kingston and work in the New Paltz/Marbletown/Rosendale area on a daily basis. Take care, Kevin
  9. That was me! So do you frequent the area? New Paltz is a beautiful area. If you haven't checked out Mohonk/Minnewaska yet, you should. As you guessed, I live and work here. Nice dog by the way Take care, Kevin
  10. I have never never ever ever used a sealant on differential plugs. Differential oil is what...75w90? That stuff is H E A V Y !!!! You'll be fine...just clean the threads before you put it back together.
  11. I had a nice local shop do mine for $750ish if I recall right. What is the name/number of this shop in Albany? If you don't want to post it please PM/Email me Take care, Kevin
  12. Yep And Ron, wouldn't that warranty cover the issues you report? By the way, an innacurate Impreza gas gauge is very common. I used to refuel my 95 every 320 miles.
  13. There is a mint 93 Impreza FWD running around here. It's red with gray bumpers, 13" steel wheels (5 lug BTW) with center caps, and no radio. It was the base of the base
  14. If he can get it 1hr south (Exit 20 on the NYS Thruway), he should bring it to Especially Swedish on Rt 212 in Saugerties/Woodstock. 845-679-7748 Good luck, Kevin
  15. Yes, Legacys are a common sight on rural delivery routes. Jeep, and I believe even Saturn, are the only companies that make RHD cars for postal workers now.
  16. I have no idea when (if ever) the gear oils were changed out. I'll crawl under the beast and check out the CV's as well. The roof rack will be used for the bikes...should be a nice rudder in the crosswinds:) She says that driving through Kansas will make me want to /myself, but that's the only really bad part of the drive. Kevin
  17. Yes, most definitely I didn't get the impression that what was "wrong" with the picture was directly related to the oil change in question.
  18. Hey all, long time no post, I know Between family life, personal life, bicycling, and the fact that I bought a damn house, life has been busy to stay active in all of my favorite forums. Anyhow... My girlfriend and I are headed to Breckenridge to get some mountain biking and hiking in during mid August. It was decided to use my wagon since there is plenty of room for everything. I feel I am pretty on top of maintenance with the car, and I am half posting this because I am so excited to be going on a trip, but it never hurts to have a little extra input;) So not counting the small issue of her not being able to drive a standard (and not being able to get solid seat time in...she leaves for a very sudden trip to Africa in 5 days), is there anything I should look over or have inspected? I need an oil change, so now is the time to do this...Here are the vitals: The car is a 2001 Legacy. The head gaskets and everything related to them were changed out about 9,000 miles ago or so. Along with that service, the timing belt was changed and a new oxygen sensor was put in place. The front brakes/rotors were new when I bought the car, and they probably have oh....35k on them. The battery and alternator were also new at the time of purchase, and the clutch and all reltated parts are new as well. That's it, nice to be posting again. Thanks for the input, Kevin
  19. What Jerry said ^^ I know I've seen a picture of it done on a 2nd gen Legacy, and I am pretty sure I have seen it on a 1st gen as well. Fabrication required.
