kevinsUBARU replied to Steven Romero's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I went through the list of things that need replacing and said "Thats it?" -
Pretty indestructable cars. The AWD systems work flawlessly, but torque bind is experienced on some automatics. They handle great, the EJ18/EJ22 engine is bulletproof. If you end up with a 2.5L wagon, it will have to be at least a 2002. I believe the EJ22 engine changed to interference for 1997-2001, so that means that 1993-1996 had the non-interference motors....someone else chime in on that though. Kevin

Ahhhh, you have your "own" little local stash as well I see. It's nice knowing where you can get goodies, isn't it:grin:

It's time for me to meet some people from the USMB (As long as it doesn't interfere with the camping trip, vacation, or other vital life events already planned...sorry). Once the ski season is over, I am free most weekends. IMHO, NO Pennsylvania or NJ. I think the key areas to consider are Southern VT/NH, Central/Western MA, Northern CT, Eastern NY. If this happens, I will make every effort to make it, and that is a promise. Kevin

The work truck, and 89 Mitsu Montero, has no heat shields on it. It is always driven through grass taller than the windshield....and parked, while idiling, becuase the starter solenoid cable gets ripped off in the high stuff and you will burn yourself trying to put it back on. We have never had a grass fire or anything remotely close. However, the CO2 and heat the thing puts out almost makes me wish it would just go up in a ball of flames!

I was reading the book "On the Line at Subaru-Isuzu: The Japanese Model and the American Worker" and learned an interesting fact of which I will tell to the best of my memory.... The assembly of water pumps is done by new trainees to see if they are able to complete work at a high standard of quality. I'm sure there is more to it, but what I said is a fact!

Use the 450 foot pack with the 50LB load bar in order to handle the load. You should be able to slide the bars forward/backwards to obtain the optimal mounting point for the box. The hatch should open all the way...I believe the new Outback roof rails allow for a nice range of bar spread. Hey all I upgraded my 205/60/15 stock setup to a 215/55/16 setup for warmer months...I do realize that it is slightly larger than stock and the spedo will roughly read 60 when I am going 61, but does anyone see this setup as being a problem? The slight, oh so slight gearing loss will be offset by the decreased mass of the new rims, but even if it isn't, it probably won't be too noticable if at all, yes? Thanks! Kevin 2001 Legacy wagon

The roof vent, water tank, aluminum trunk/hood and "roll bar" all could have easily been added. It sounds like you have a 2004 USDM STi. In 2004, there was no radio offered, but it had everything else. Fact of the matter is, it is almost most definately NOT a real Spec C, but one that has been very tastefully modified. In the Impreza community, it is not unheard of for people to spend a lot of money making a Spec C replica. For your own reading though, here is the Motor Trend report on the Spec C and Automobile Magazines report. If you want the full "Carfax" history of youcar click HERE to run your VIN Detailed pictures would help out a bunch, and the folks in your Mid-Atlantic Chapter may be able to help you get to the bottom of it/hump your car! I myself would love to see pictures of the roll bar and the roof vent. What wheels are on it? Take care, Kevin
