  1. This was posted over on nabisco a few days ago by a user from Lebanon. Pretty cool (minus some traffic on the road), and the anti-lag system is http://www.abdofeghali.com/graphics/AF_Subaru_Snow.wmv
  2. Sounds amazing! What price should I expect to have a similiar muffler bought/installed? I would love to do something like this to my 2001 Legacy, yet have it look tasteful at the same time (like yours). The 2001+ is hard though, becuase of the rear bumper design... Take care, Kevin
  3. Sounds like you need a new clutch. The higher gears are where you will see the slipping first. It can take a while for it to show up in the lower gears, or it could appear very fast...depending on your (or your girlfriends) driving habits;).
  4. After picking up my car second hand, I had to replace the clutch at roughly the same mileage about 8 months after taking delivery. I would use your normal guy, but thank the neighbor for their input. Kevin
  5. I have the same problem on a 2001 Legacy L wagon, 5-speed, 73,000 miles. I was told that the power steering hose assembly is the culprit alot of the times (from a shop owner on NASIOC). Insuficient pressure due to restrictions in the hose cause the pulsation, and it's about $155 for the hose and an hour of labor to fix. I was also told that it's a sign of a dying power steering pump and/or fluid may be low. Take your pick, whatever you choose, it's most likley something related to the power steering pump. That being said, I haven't fixed mine yet, and it's been doing it since last winter. Take care, Kevin
  6. I have a 2001 Legacy L wagon. I really enjoy it. No problems except a whine during startup at cold temperatures, and of course the HGs. I bought it with 48K. The first cold snap of the year with temps hovering at -10F got the HG leaking at only 58K. I had the coolant conditioner added, and it worked for a little bit. At 68K, during the first cold session of the year (not below zero) it was leaking pretty bad again. Full warranty replacement on HG and related items, a new oxygen sensor, and timing belt for $76. I say just check it out good, and go in for the kill
  7. Thats a great little clip! If anyone can hunt down the "Subaru Impreza Story" on a download, make sure you snag that. It's over 20 minutes long...
  8. A year ago, I installed the Kartboy short shifter and shifter bushings on my 2001 Legac wagon. The bushings are cake to install, especially if you roll the car up on some ramps. I found it very helpful to wear a backpacking head lamp while changing these out. The difference in feel is amazing:clap: The NHV noise went up very slightly. Then a couple of months later when I had a new clutch installed, I had a USDM STi tranny mount installed as well. These are found on nasioc.com for something like $30 shipped, and they make a night/day difference in the crispness of your shifting. NHV noise seemed to be very loud at first, but has since quieted (or I got used to it). No complaints from passengers, and it's fine when cruising at 75. Kevin
  9. I didn't read the whole thread, but I'll add my two cents... Even the cheapest snow tire will be GREAT on an AWD Subaru. I ran Hercules Polar Trax for 3 seasons on my Impreza, and I am on my second season of Winterforce tires on my Legacy wagon. Cheap (As in around $300 mounted), they wear well, and plenty sufficient for fun and safety as long as you keep that little thing called common sense. Kevin
  10. I traded up my base model Impreza for a base model Legacy wagon a few model years newer...much nicer interior:) Congrats on the new car! Kevin
  11. My Impreza started rusting this exact same way. When I got my Legacy, those rubber strips came off and stayed off.
  12. Since we're talking about Fords:brow: I drive a 98 Explorer Sport 4wd for work. It has 198k and no engine problems. The transmission is always funky though.
  13. So here's the scoop: The left and right side gaskets are getting replaced as well as some other related stuff under warranty. The dealer, who I feel is honest, also noticed oil leaking from the timing belt covers. I have seen this drip before, but I kind of just always forgot about it. Anyhow, the front oil seals are leaking, and there was oil on the timing belt, ect, ect. So I am also getting a timing belt job and all of the other related stuff for $280. Then subtract my $100 suby bucks and thats $180 for a pretty refreshed engine:) I'm not psyched that it happened now, but I guess it would have happened eventually. I close on a house first thing in the AM, so what's one more check to the Subaru dealer
  14. I have an extended warranty to 85K. Regardless, it's going to the dealer tomorrow, and as per phone our phone conversation, it would be taken care of by SOA if anything major needed to be done.
  15. Wait for it..... ....of burning coolant on the exhaust:banana: w00t!!!!!1!!!1 Damn, you probably guessed that though. I guess the stop leak the dealer put in at 58k didn't work, surprise surprise. (insert severe sarcasm here) Just thought I would share in my joy, take care, Kevin
  16. I had to replce mine (2001 Legacy wagon) at ~60k after it started to slip on mountain accents. I had just bought the car used at 50K or something like that. While it is my first standard, it is certainly not my first time driving one. Kevin
  17. You're may laugh, but I was actually in the northern pine barrons on saturday. Unfortunately, I was at a continuing education class from 8-5 that I need for work:D I knew I could smell the subie love in the air!
  18. I believe you are looking for a 5 bolt wheel (5x100) and not a 4x100. You also have to take the offset into condiseration. I have seen VW and Dodge Caravan (I think..it was a Dodge) rims used on Subaru Legacys before. However, since Subaru has a magical offset, you may kill your wheel bearings faster if you use something other than Subaru. I believe that the range of "safe offsets" is something like 48-55.
  19. I just learned that it has been cancelled unfortunately...not enough enteries:confused: Cross your fingers that the one in April will still go on...
  20. I ran a Primitive Racing plate on my 1995 Impreza, and when I switched it over to my 2001 Legacy L, I just had to drill new rear mounting holes in it. No biggie:banana:
