acura brakes on a GEN 1
kevinsUBARU replied to tailgatewagon's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Something doesn't quite add up here. I find it hard to believe that Honda, one of the most technically advanced automobile companies, was still using 1978 technology on a 1997 car that was $22k for the base model? Although the calipers for a 1997 CL look damn close to the one in the picture, there must be slight differences. It would be cool if it was true though...kind of like how you can get Subaru 4-pots and brake pads from the Nissan dealer:) -
The cheapest solution for you is to get a Barrecrafters AB-4 (4-pair) or the AB-6 (6-pair) rack. It will attach right to your existing crossbars and it includes locks, all for right around $100 for the AB-6 (cheaper for the AB-4). Gas mileage will NOT be significantly effected. I have a full Thule rack (with the AB-6) on my wagon, and when it wasn't on it I was only getting like .4mpg better. Don't worry about it As far as the fairing goes, yes, it requires the Thule bars. If you want to go this route, do this: Purchase Thule Ride-On adaptor kit (about $40) Purchase wind fairing (about $55) The Barrecrafters rack will attach directly to the Thule Ride-On adaptor kit (30" bars are supplied). If you like, you can substitute the 30" bars by getting the 50' bars. This allows you to put a bike, ski rack, and fairing on at the same time. The fairing may not work with the 30" bars now that I think of it (but it should...I'll do some measurements and get back to you), so ask the Thule rack salespeople that question if you go before I give you an answer:) Kevin

I was thinking of getting Hakkas or RSI's this year. Anyone have a ballpark figure of what 4 cost? I was thinking of around the $300 range is what it probably is. Now to rehash an old topic, I have 4 15' steelies from my 95 Impreza. I should be able to use these on my 2001 Legacy L wagon, right? I'm almost 100% sure I can, but I want someone else to say so! There was a recent thread about this except his case seemed much more violent than this. I have a 01 Legacy L that does the same thing...your description describes my car much better than the other thread. I have somewhat mastered the light foot approach, but sometimes that just doesn't work depending on traffic, ect... I am going to be trying a STi transmission mount and a STi Pitch Rod Stopper and see where that leaves me. Next step will be Group N motor mounts, but not in the near future. Kevin

I never thought it was anyone that posted here on a regular basis, at most I think it was a lurker or something. Anyhow, moving on... Just to let you guys know, the International RallyNY was great! Check the New Gen forum for a short pictoral tour of the weekend. There were NO old gen subies there...the oldest were the 1991 or so turbo Legacys! Next one is in April, although it may not be as large (53 cars) it will still have quite a good turnout! Kevin

Mitsubishi Mighty Max Another Evo Datsun Acura NSX...loud as hell, which is good of course New spectator spot again. This time I am at Elk Road. Cars only came through once instead of the planned 3 times. Residents walking on the street and a deer collision (from what I heard) is what caused this. The neighbor thought it was appropriate to shoot every gun he had so the cops went and took care of that little situation. Anyhow, here is one picture...the rest look the same. I should have stuck this in earlier, eh. See you next year! (BTW, this image is awesome in "high res" as a background!)

Day 2 was a blast! Hung out with some great guys and saw some regulars that I am friendly with. LOTS of action, a few crashes, and more close calls than I can count. Here is a quick photo diary of the day, enjoy I will try to get all of my pictures organized better into a zip file or something incase someone wants them all. The pictures are much better today because I got more comfortable with the camera. Early morning crowd Keith and his dad make a nice pass New spot...corner of Mile Hill and Swamp Pond Rd. Flying finish about 30 yards beyond the next turn. So who's yer paddy? A late finger on the shutter button catches the beginning of some drama...Mitsubishi Evo 7 I belive came in WAY too hot, locked brakes, and didn't throttle/steer out. He ended up here after smashing into the berm and loosing his whole front end. I have video of him whipping it back around onto the course, only to almost have ANOTHER collision...this time with another car that is flying around the turn:eek: So they ran 2 time that way, and then they came up the hill!
