  1. I have searched high and low for an old Subaru link. It was very informative web page and really described the quirks of manual transmission Subarus in detail. I believe it was written by a guy in England or something. I wish I could give you more info, but that is seriously all I can really remember. Does anyone know what I am talking about? Thanks, Kevin
  2. The faring barely makes a dent in fuel economy. It looks cool, and it is a place for stickers. Just spend time putting it on right and you will be very happy! Kevin
  3. I like it and the newly redesigned front ends on the Imprezas. All ya'll are a bunch of haters:-p
  4. that was cool, thanks for sharing! I look forward to the reinstall video!
  5. Well, today I installed my CD player and the front skid plate from my Impreza. Now I just need to adapt my Thule system to it! Slowly oh so slowly, it is being molded into something cool and functional.
  6. Thanks everyone Brian, I learned my lesson after parking under that roof...NEVER AGAIN hahaha. Don't worry about those rims...I am keeping my eyes open for some (cheap) 00-01 RS takeoffs or some WRX ones. I know it will make it look MUCH better! Kevin
  7. It will evaporate...which is probably just as damaging to the environment as burning it in your engine
  8. As some may recall from my OT post, I was looking for a Baja or a Forester for the increased ground clearance, room, and 5-speed. I found a 2001 Legacy L 5-speed wagon with 50K, drove it, loved it The rest is history. So farewell to JF1GC6359SH518456...you were great for our 7 years together and we went to many places together. Here is a picture of it today...I've had it for a week so far and really enjoy her. The rear seats have been folded down for most of the week to haul my bicycles and work related stuff around. Seems to be well taken care of so I really look forward to the road ahead. Kevin
  9. Are you sure your OBS doesn't have any cupholders? I'm not saying you havent looked hard, but my 95 Impreza's were hidden pretty well right above the radio. Infact, I have two friends who have Imprezas and they had gone years without using the cupholders until I showed them that it was right under their nose. I would check out your owners manual to see where they hid them. Good luck with it, Kevin
  10. Hi All OEM alloy wheels will fit except SVX and 05 STi. I had Forester rims on my Impreza. Have fun with it! Kevin
  11. Definately rotate your tires or swap a spare set on before you pay $$$$$$$ for any mechanical work.
  12. The topic has been covered several times already. Here is one of the longer threads . Take care, Kevin
  13. I put silicone sealant around all of the gaps between the lights and the body and it fixed my water problem. At one point, I thought about making a tide chart for my trunk!
  14. Well, did some number crunching and..... Can someone please please do a carfax for me!?!? I would really apprecitate it:) 4S3BH635916301795 Thanks, Kevin kjyoun01 at hvc.rr.com
  15. Always leave a 12 pack in the trunk and ask them to check for a strange sound you have been hearing
  16. Matt, had you changed stuff like that out before, or did you just dive right in? Any mechanical background that helped you out? Did you use FSM's or Chiltons/Haynes? Kevin
  17. I had the same problem when I first got my 95 Impreza. I just found a nut that was about as thick as the slack, hacksawed a slit in it, and slipped it over the cable by the end at the gas pedal. It has worked flawlessly, and has been since 1999. Kevin
  18. Certainly some good points that were brought up...there are positives and negatives to both routes. I am definately not attached to my car, but she has been good to me. Regardless though, a car is a bad investment either way you look at it. If I could score a Baja that would be super, but I would equally be as thrilled with a 2001 OBS with the 2.2L. Infact, in some ways I would prefer it. It is cheaper overall to purchase, insurance is cheaper, and I have parts I can transfer over to it. Kevin
  19. Thanks for the advice! You pretty much said what I have been thinking, but I wanted to give my old girl some consideration in this matter:lol: Kevin
  20. Hi. Please bear with me as I tell my story So I have this 1995 Impreza 2.2L AWD sedan that I have had since it was 40K old (my first car!). I've been kicking around an upgrade to a pre-owned Baja, OBS, or Forester (in order of preference). However, the good 'ol 95 has been good to me over the past 7 years, and I have her ticker at 120K now. Quite frankly, I am bored with it, I need a little more room for my bikes/work related duties, and another inch or so of ground clearance would be great...and a 5-speed manual. That being said, I am making do right now with what I have, but it might be more practical to replace some stuff and keep driving her So what do you think? Mechanically, I have ok skills. Oil changes (diff, engine), spark plugs, fuel filter, front brake pads and rotors can all be done by me. Things that need to be addressed: Rear Drum Brakes - I need to do something about them soon (and yeah, I have been saying that since it hit 100k). I have the Chiltons and Haynes manuals, and I could probably get by. But, I don't know if its worth my time/frustration. The pads are definately worn into the drum, and I am really unclear as to how to back them off. I would love to take care of this myself, but might as well just support someones business and have it done professionally. Any idea on what a rear drum brake service costs? Shoes, Drums, and any other problem that might pop up... Radiator Hoses/Fluid - The fluid and hoses need to be changed. I have changed a radiator hose before on the road on a friends Ford, but we just let fluid fly all over the place. I have searched and searched, but I can not find out where to dispose of antifreeze. Any help is appreciated. Transmission - new fluid need to go in, but I guess this is considered general maintenance. Tires - probably going to seek out a set of WRX takeoffs with RE92's. Suspension - Struts should probably replaced at this mileage anyhow. It's not a horrible ride, but it could be improved. Probably go with KYB AGX or an RS setup. Which brings me to my next question...I have a full set of RS struts/springs that I have been storing for years. They have 20k on them. Should they struts still be ok to use even after sitting in a cool basement? So does it seem practical to keep it or move on to another sube? I figure that this stuff would cost about $1500 or so to take care of professionally, but then it would be good to go for another 100k. Or do I invest it on a newer pre-loved Subie and drive into the sunset with my ground clearance, cargo space, and 5-speed tranny...lol Thanks for listening, and I sincerly appreciate any guidance/advice/help! Kevin
  21. In 1995 the 2.2L Impreza was in L and LX trim and only in AWD automatic...trust me, I have a 2.2L "L". You could get the 5-speed in 1996. The grilles are different. The 2.2L engine cars have the subaru emblem with a "v" of sorts around it...kind of like gen 1 Brats and the like. Kevin
