  1. Good call.. Well i limped it the 15 miles to the local parts store and got 2 codes, p100, p101 both MAF related from what i can tell. I reset them and they came right back as soon as i started the car... anyone got a spare i could purchase for a modest sum when i next get paid? or should i try just cleaning it?
  2. well S***! i took the air filter box apart to check the condition of the air filter... and there ISN'T ONE! im obviously not gonna drive it till i get one, and it does not look like it was driven too far without a filter.. (no dust build up on the post filter side of the housing but it is winter, no dust.) is the engine likely just scrap or should i just tune it up and if it runs good its good? compression test maybe..?
  3. It is recommended to use a new bolt, i have done many using the old bolt however, you end up separating them during cv axel replacements as well, which i have done too many of.. but yeah, should be fine to use the old bolt, just put it back exactly as it came out as they tend to bend into shape a bit.
  4. Just bought my second (currently owned) subaru, few problems.. was in a minor accident, front and rear bumber both damaged about the same amount. Spun on black ice apparantly, which caused the seat heater in the passenger seat caught fire torching the seat and making the interior smell... bad. Nothing a junkyard cant fix though. THe main issue im having is tht it seems to run super rich (small amount of black smoke on start up and when revved, spark plugs are black and sooty, wont hold an idle at all really. Check Engine light is on, havnt gotten the codes yet. Can you do it from home? and the fuel gauge is broken, reads 3/4 or full at all times. new 95 sitting next to my 92.
  5. I installed the FWD fuse and it lit up the light in the dash and all of my symptoms disappear. Including one i did not mention; when i put it in park it rolls forward or back, depending on the incline im on, AFTER i turn the engine off.
  6. So i bought myself a 92 lego wagon and its great minus a couple transmission issues. 148k miles, auto trans, Couple things are bothering me with the trans the first is the binding obviously, i dont know for sure when the last fluid change was (for the trans) the PO claimed he did it at about 80k when he bought it. the power light flashes 16 times on start up Almost every time and the binding starts once the trans is warmed up. the tires are all the same and fairly even tread. the other thing about it that worries me is that when i put my foot down to accelerate and shift down into second it seems to rev a but high and catch it self.. also have a leaky fuel filler neck but im only getting about 220 miles on a tank of gas (roughly 18 mpg) Thanks
  7. I just went through a crank pulley disaster myself... no fun but not devastating at all (unless your broke like me and $200 is a big deal). pop your hood and look at the crank pulley while the engine is idling, does it look like it is wobbling or off center at all? If so get it to your mechanic asap and hope not too much damage has been done.
  8. Compression check was done with plugs in and throttle closed.. will change coolant and t-stat and get back. thanks
  9. Same old story. the problem is im fixing it in my unheated garage in MT on a very tight budget. So please keep that in mind when commenting. It has 276k miles on it but runs fantastic still, i can drive for up to ten minutes before coolant starts gushing out of the overflow tank and the gauge shoots up. i can let it idle for quite some time and it wont overheat, just once i start driving. What things shoudl i check in what order here? i have checked compression and 3 cylinders were at 140psi, cyl#3 would crank over up to 100psi then my gauge would go right down like there was a bad air leak or something.. it sounds like its running on 3 cylinders at idle but if i rev it up it gets smooth.
  10. This harness may be toast then. I did mostly that.. only when i got to a factory solder i just kept taking the wire:Flame:. soooooo wish me luck i guess..
  11. against what may have been against my best judgement, i started stripping the loom down myself.. the loom is from a 1993 legacy automatic..(will that affect things?) and thats kinda my current question.. there are a lot of wires going between the TCU and the ECU, should i cut those? i have ben hesitant to cut anything attached to the ecu up to this point.. its all over my living room. help.:-\
  12. Well its that or i think i read that you can send the harness to someone numbchux or something, he'll strip it and send it back? I cant make heads or tales of this freakin thing..
  13. So now its got me wondering.... is stripping the loom strictly nessesary? could i not, in therory, just put it in with all the xtra wire still attached? sure it wouldent look great, but i need this thing on the road..
  14. Alrighty then.. i finished removing the wiring harness today, only to hear that i'm the one expected to strip it down.. ************!! i dont know the least bit about how to do this. its strewn about my living room right now, so any tips/pictures/anything people could offer to help me do this PLEASE. PS- no my living room is NOT a field... thats my dads place lol.
  15. I've always been wary of those hoses with the wires in them.. wont they rust on you eventually/ restrict flow with the inside ribbing?
  16. And do you have a couple of them premade or do you make to order? how much is shipping? Thanks
  17. Well i only wanted it for low pressure applications, living in montana is fairly high above sea level and a turbo makes up for the altitude... but it sounds a little compicated for me unfortunately... sounded fun though
  18. is there any crazy wiring to keep the turbo or just some fab work?
  19. Im swapping an EJ22 into an 87 RX 5spd d/r ft4wd, how soon could i feasably get it / about how much is an adapter plate for the tranns?
  20. Check Sun Runner Subaru or AF&T Salvage (Google 'em) in Belgrade MT.... i know he has an xt turbo out there somewhere.. might give you a seat who knows..
  21. Finished ripping the harness out of the donor today, or at least as much as i could.. its gonna be a couple days till anything more happens to it sadly, but in the mean time. Im on the hunt for an adapter plate for the ej22->5sp D/R full time 4wd... if anyone has a direction to point me in i would much appreciate it..
  22. Thats just great, there is only one within a hundred miles of me.... luckily its also within 10 miles of me
