Found some rust on the frame in the wheel well so I have been grinding/cutting that out. Will be treating it tonight and weld it up tomorrow. Picking up more 18g today for the rockers, going to have the shop put in a few of the more difficult bends to save me a little time. Also picking up the final few engine bits to do the build. Hope to have the rockers in this weekend... more pics to come over the next few days.

I use a cutting wheel on a grinder to get the weld down... then I use a grinding wheel to smooth it out and blend. If you don't have a grinder I recommend purchasing one... makes life waaaaaay easier.

Tundrabrat Build
Torn apart ready for prep. Por15 and welding in the wheel well... tough to make smooth welds it's pretty in close quarters. 27 years of mud and gravel required extra cutting. Rebuilding the inside wheel well before I can put on the outside sheet metal later this weekend.

My '83 GL: The Ski Wagon
I don't know if they'll work... I bought rockers from MillSupply (great service and product BTW) to use on the BRAT and realized they were different enough to set them aside for when I redo my GL later next winter. I am rebuilding everything that need to be replaced on the BRAT from flat 18G... It's time consuming but it is turning out nice. BTW... I'm with you, when I'm done restoring this thing it will be driven during winter and taken care of. These things were poorly sealed originally and I am working to remedy this.

Typical Ak summer... Have to stop one project (the Brat) to work on others (2 fishing trips, installing a super charger on my brother's truck, working on my boss's cabin... Etc) but I started on it again tonight and will be on most everyday for the foreseeable future. Pics to come this weekend. Here's some eye candy to hold you over... Ford 6.2l with a Whippel supercharger, 700 Crank HP.

Been getting work down around the house the last week so not as much done this weekend. Lot's of rust due to mud and moisture getting kicked up behind the fuel filler pipe. Cleaned some engine parts... a nice break from the bodywork. I'll be getting back on the horse this evening.

Pulled the tank so I can safely weld on the passenger side of the bed. So easy and it even had a plug to drain the last little bit of gas:headbang:

Lots of time:D. I bent the metal along the bottom edge in order to get the initial shape and then made 4 cuts vertically from the top down (making long narrow triangles) to where the fender well begins the bend (about 3"). Then its just a matter of slowly bending the tabs to create the arc at the top of the wheel well... Trimming as you go. Once I tacked it into place I welded up the cuts I made and then grinded the crap out of it. Lot's of test fitting and trimming. I'll post pics of the next panel during the process.
