thanks biffanyus yeah i have a passion for cars i love working on them and this one is an awesome find i was just gonna make it a beater but after seeing how nice it is i want to keep it as clean as possible still gonna be my little rally wagon but im gonna take care of it not beat it into the ground went to work on it today headed to my parents place and they werent there so i waited while i waited i busted out the polishing compound and got this as a result on the left you can see what was polished and the right isnt done yet almost brand new paint then i started on the clutch radiator out disconnect some stuff and its out hard to tell from the pic but this disk is hammered i have some cleaning in my future and thats where work stopped due to having the wrong clutch disk
-
im so glad i picked this thing up not only do i have brakes after bleeding them but i took some polishing compound ot the paint and its like brand new
-
well i got a clutch for it and for free non the less! local subaru guy had it laying around i asked how much he wanted for it and he said free get it out of my life so for 200 bucks plus the cost of registration i have a 4x4 for the winter can we say winning? cause i can
-
it has definatly been a long road this winter now that i have the subaru to drive this is getting some body work done as well as a cam and side draft carbs
-
well today after work my dad and i bled the brakes and i installed a tach now that i got to drive the car faster then 5 mph the speedo doesnt read past 20 and the clutch slips baaaaad but other then that its a solid car a few questions one why would the speedo only read up to a certan point? number 2 the gas gauge doesnt work i put 1 and a half gallons in it todat and it didnt even budge on a tank that is only 11 gallons it should register something right? my temp gauge kinda works i know there is some corrosion in the connecter to the sensor but are they any other causes that could be causing me to have these instrumentation issues?

as tempting as that is i want whatever wheel i put under it to fit in the wheel wells this wagon is to clean to cut it up a mild lift and some 14 inch datsun wheels will probibly do the trick with some meaty snow tires give it the rally going look i want
-
i think i scored with a price of 200 bucks even if i have to put another 200 or so into it ill have a running driveing 4x4 for the winter and a cool little rallyer in the summer all for about 400 just a win win situation
-
thats just normally how loud they are? if so damn there loud bastards lol one thing ive noticed and im starting to like alot about this car is that its spunky and it sounds pissed off
-
before anyone says anything i know it needs a valve adjustment and head gasket
-
today was cleaning day i washed it cleaned out the interior scrubbed the engine bay cleaned up and painted the push bar the rims with the best tires on them started bleeding the brakes but when my sister prooved to be less then helpful at working the brake pedal i gave up ill try again later i also replaced all the vacuum lines going to the carb and put a new radiator cap on it so the cooling system will hold pressure ignore the chunk of vacuum line on the seat then i remembered i had the stock hubcaps from shelly and that they were 13's im glad i hung on to them cleaner engine bay
-
ill snag some interior shots tomorrow when i go over there to bleed the brakes and who knows maybe a test drive
-
alright i got it home!!!!!!! loading it trying to get out gave up and crawled out the passenger side which was no small task whos tailgateing me... casper destination reached i have got to do something about the seats they sit to high and the steering wheel is in my crotch unloaded the goodies these may be all aluminum but damn there still heavy next to michelle i looked at them side by side there is somthing wrong when my station wagon is 3 inches shorter then my 2 door coupe so today we filled the radiator adjusted the carb and wired the fan to a toggle switch since the stock thermo switch is dead also fixed the temp gauge all in all a good day

if your thinking about cutting and welding i agree thats probibly the only way to fix it -
so i think i have a plan of attack stock the plan a slight lift of about 2 inches bigger more agressive tires but not so big that i have to cut the body some extra lighting on the front and rear im going for a rally kind of look something that looks like it can go anywhere but not look like a rock crawler

How to fix the hood hinge (78 DL)
bonvo replied to Giant's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
this is the wagon with the mangled hood right? im thinking after it got tagged the hood wouldnt open and was forced cause that doesnt look like rust damage what i would do is take a chunk of 1/4 inch plate and brace along where the hinge should mount then mount it to the 1/4 inch plate would require drilling 4 holes in the car where its not damaged and 2 holes in the plate done deal and a rather strong fix but then again i like to build things to the point of overkill i made seat mounts out of 3/4 inch plate once -
lol i drove threw k falls on the way here progress will happen as soon as i get the trailor over there to drag it home i have the keys and title just need to get the car home
