  1. +1 Rick once noticed that I was in Lo in my Rx and was surprised... It just doesn't even feel any different. I did an EJ engine swap and now it IS faster:banana:
  2. BAH! My Rx with the OBDII stock computered EJ25 SHOC is running just fine. It throws about 9 codes... fuel temp, fuel pump, evap pressure, purge control... on and on... I just don't worry about it... and check the codes every so often to make sure that there arn't any more:grin: If you decide not to do it, cut me in I have an XT-6 that needs a motor:dead:
  3. My 2.5 Rx weighed in at like 2600 or so with my big arse in it.... not to shabby...
  4. +1.... expect 20 people to say they will show, but then expect about 8.... I'll be there BTW... sends me a maps pllllesase
  5. Hey, Does anyone have the coolant "fitting" that the EA81 turbo cars use for the temp sensor? It goes in the heater core lines next to the firewall... Tanks! I say someone set a "for sure" date and see how it flies... Ohh BTW someone needs this: http://denver.craigslist.org/car/425218995.html
  6. Wiring diagrams are year specific usually...
  7. DOH! Stock for the EA82... under the column I'm lazy so I used a hole saw and cut a large hole in the firewall on the drivers side and ran the cables through there... I have a OBD2 connecter on mine and it is "mounted" or rather tucked up above the DS kick panel so I can pull it down and use it any time... Ok heres the harness after strippage: Here's the hole I drilled: Here's the EJ ECU under the steering column: And here's all the wires running out of the big hole:
  8. I have the entire wiring harness out of a 96 with OBD2... I'll sell it rather cheap, or if you want I'll strip it down for you as well.... or just go through shawn... either way...
  9. It's the same as the EA series stuff...
  10. so.... will my bumper beam itself bend or what? Thing seemed to be made of 2 laminated sheets of 3/32" steel... seemed pretty stout to me... Just as thick as the mount.
  11. Why the single cam heads?
  12. I used the stock wiring on my EJ25... or at least MOST of it... and I put the ECU where it goes stock... The ECU is a bit smaller and is only held in by a few bolts, but the wiring was the correct length, maybe a bit long even... I just took the scenic route to the pass side of the engine.
  13. Personally I think you need to decide exactly how much off road you will be doing. I go wheeling about 3-4 time a year... yeah, I just don't have the time. I got some Wal-terrain Liberators and for my mostly highway use they have served me well.... but when I go to buy tires again, I'll get something maybe even a bit less aggressive.. Although I like the libs a lot. If you think you'll make it to the trails once a month... and DD the car the rest of the time, really weight how much you really need the tires... if you go once a week, consider not using the car as a DD or getting a more aggressive tire and buying new ones more often... or just go 15", it's not that expensive:-p P.S. Check out Telstar Turbostar RVs... they have a 27x8.50R14LT and have a liberator style tread.
  14. Keep in mind I wanted to keep the stock bumper and the winch is 80% for "show"... I started first by removing the front bumper, scuse the cell pics Then "made" a plate from some steel strap Then drilled holes in the plate that matched the winch mount and welded the plate to the bumper.. and bolted it there... Then reassembled... the winch mount is bolted to the car better then the winch is to the mount! Here you can see the remote for the winch And here's a video of the silly action! Be harsh if you like, but this wagon is my winter beater and hardly sees any action.... It's a ton and half winch (3k lbs) so probably right at its limit on this thing, but hey, it was on sale and I have a snatch block around somewhere.... but like said, it's mostly a toy.
  15. it'll work fine. EA82 car & SPFI + EA81 engine = success... It'll be a cake swap and you'll have more room.... But why?
  16. Hey.... Did matt ever get that BRAT? I never heard of it again....
  17. +1 on the helicoil.... But EA82Ts still suck:-p
  18. I bet you could glue an XT rear window in that hole... then shave the rear door handles, weld, bondo, paint and it'll be big pimpin'
  19. GD I totally disagree with you! I sold my EA82T after I replaced it with an EJ... much better then a boat anchor!:-p +1 on the EA82T being junk.... maybe sellable junk, but junk none the less. As far as the OP's topic, yes, the STi intercooler is bigger, but no, not needed for this engine, WRX one is fine... ohh and to Crazy D, EA82Ts do NOT come with intercoolers stock.... just a cross over pipe that gets hella hot.
  20. I'd love to, but it's not my car.... and I, for once, don't have the parts on hand.... I do however have a complete 96 EJ22.... Anyway, I checked the timing when I first got it running because that was the issue... I think IIRC I set it at about 10 or so... I'll check again for vac leaks as well, but like said I think I got all of them... I even checked out the PCV... I'll just keep plugging away.
  21. I say go EJ... but then I really REALLY hate the EA82T. Then I say ditch the 4wd tranny and go EJ AWD tranny.... You don't need a lo range with the extra power unless you really want to off road it. Ohh and there is no "modifying" the harness... you just get to replace it. And to keep costs down, just buy a $500-$1000 running driving legacy.
  22. Not my 86 GL wagon. It's carbed. Here's the story. The owner decided to take it apart to change the timing belt, and couldn't get it back together, not running anyway. So it came to me with the old "ran great before he messed with it". He kinda took the intake apart, so the vac lines may or may not be right, I checked them over quickly. He disassembled the interior to fix the heater controls for some reason. The spark plug wires were on wrong. Ok, heres the problem. It runs hellaticiosly rich. I put it on a 5 gas and was getting about 900ish HC at it's "best" setting. It also makes you dizzy trying to analize it. It also has a bit of a miss, idles rough. When it is driven the throttle has "dead spots" at 1/4 and 3/4 throttle... seems to sputter in those areas. What I have done: plugs, cap, rotor seafoam in the tank with some fresh gas seafoam down the throat of the beast(really helped the idle) some carb cleaner... in the carb new oil poorly and quickly checked and reconnected the vac lines. think thats about it... Ideas?
