Head Gaskets set, Better than Others?
dustyrider replied to Joey Joe's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I think I share this same painful journey. The lesson I learned for next time is to torque down the studs with the head off to see if they are stripped! (peaceful glow) Have you read this and this You can find those here I found them very helpful. on yeah by the way here is a service manual on the internet. -

Need help finding a post
dustyrider replied to Joey Joe's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I would move your post but I cant. there are a ton of write ups on this. use the search feature try key words like head gasket. should come up with something, its an easy job that takes alot of work without planning. there should also be a write up in the repair section miles fox has a good one. -
In the off topic forum of course:rolleyes: Sign me up for the christmas tree run whenever as long as its a weekend.

HELP new noise i cant find
dustyrider replied to subestyle18's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
My hatch does this. I replaced the tranny mounts which were shot and I tightened down the engine mounts one was scary loose. I checked the radius arms and all the lift blocks none of which were loose. The noise went away.... but its back and Im thinking its got to be internal.(rechecked all of the above) my reasoning for thinking this is... I can't make the noise by jumping or rocking the car while underneath it, so its got to be internal somehow......( I have even considered a strut or strut mount?) I never notice the noise while in 4 wheel drive I should go check, just to see. The throw out bearing is an interesting thought I have no idea how that could be so, I guess its time to do some research. On the plus side I have put thousands of miles on with that noise being there, and nothing has broken yet.......... oh yea whats this about rubber steering mounts I havent checked those! -
aaa if Blue Soob wants it right side up I guess. I just tipped my screen over to see it in it's full glory! Here is the front-end soon to look better with Scott's help! Plus a spare light assembly from uncoolperson! As for the shave maybe sometime after the new year.

dustyrider replied to SuperRallyRoo's topic in Off Road
You could just go wheeling in your subaru and show em up in person. This is an unlifted stock hatch..... the photo gallery must have what your looking for! -
Myself, Scott in Bellingham, Blue Soob, and Uncoolperson took on NorthFork Saturday. Blue Soob and Uncoolperson were unlifted it took the good part of the afternoon and my bumper, but we made it.....

key/ignition lubrication question
dustyrider replied to Ever Victorious's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I ran into this with my hatch. I was pulling the ignition fuse to stop the car for about a week before I took the ignition apart. Everything just pulled right off I was able to mess around with the tumbler inside for some time:) I used some oil and a small allen wrench that I customized to mess with the internals.... I think I was trying to get the tumbler out I never did but i fixed the ignition... basically I think I cleaned it out cause it started to work just great. -
